Most of the hotel isn't being used maybe because it is being renovated, so only a wing seems to be in use now. Our room was in that wing and so it was new and clean, and was decorated simply and nicely. We liked the big bathroom and the refrigerator. The room wasn't very sound proof though, and you could hear everything happening in every room joining yours (up or side) and everything in the hallway. The rest of the hotel looks abandoned, there is no store or restaurant. The good thing is that there is everyting available in the community only a few miles away, but you must have a car.

Big screen LCD andclean. Roll away bed charged $25 a night extra. Neighboring hotels didn't charge for same!

the hotel is very old but under renovating. They gave us a renovated room with partial ocean view which is not bad. Free parking which is a good point too.

The hotel is currently in the process of being renovated. About half to two-thirds of the hotel rooms appeared to be closed up for the renovations. Unfortunately when we checked in on July 4th, two out of three elevators were down and in the process of being fixed. Perhaps a maintenance check should have been done on the elevators before the July 4th weekend. The hotel appears to be in need of some hefty renovations.

Rooms were newly redone with clean tile, dry and no musty smells or mildew. I do not like physical keys but prefer room cards. I have stayed at the Hilo Hawaiian and the Naniloa, and greatly preferred the latter.

It was a great location for Hilo, the Volcano, and beautiful Puna.

The room renovations were really nice. The exterior of the hotel needs to be renovated and updated also - the bar and restaurant were not open. The newly renovated rooms were really nice. The bathrooms were gorgeous and the beds were comfortable. The views were amazing. I was a little disappointed about not having a bar or restaurant. Besides that I would stay again.

This was my 20th visit to Hawaii & 15th stay at the Naniloa. It has always been a good choice. The Naniloa, which changed ownership about three years ago, in now is the process of remodeling the hotel & doing an excellent job. Regretfully, the Hilo side of the Big Island is experiencing difficult times in the tourest industry. Although their rates are reasonable, they must be more competative in these difficult times. Free upgrades to choice rooms would be a good start. --- During my seven night stay there were no more than 10 cars in the visitors parking lot.

Newly reconstructed rooms. New furniture. Construction noise. Outside hotel appearance could use work. Ocean view was great. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Price was awesome for the view and room we got. When they finish construction on the place, it'll be a great place to stay and I'd go back.

Very close to the Hilo airport, we were all pleasantly surprised at how nice the hotel was. Very close to multiple waterfall viewing areas (up route 19), the scenic route is a must as is Akaka Falls. The hotel is in a peaceful bay, but no waves! Don't expect to surf here! An an hour and a half away from volcano viewing area. We didn't spend too much time at the hotel, but the view was breathtaking!

The pavilion is pretty. The restroom door can not be shut and locked. Lighting and cleanliness have so much to improve.

We were very surprised at the hotel. It was newely redecorated and was beautiful. We loved our room and the views.

Location was good. I hated this hotel! It was disgustingly dirty and unsanitary! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There was hair and stains all over the bed, the sheets, and the carpet and chair and dead bugs in the bathroom. The room we stayed in had chemicals sprayed all over the room, and in the middle of the night (3 am) I started having early contractions (I'm pregnant), and ended up in the emergency room for 5 hours the next day! The manager refused to give us a new room, until I told him about the contractions at 3 am! Talk about a horrible vacation all because of a hotel!

Overall it was okay. The bed was fairly comfortable. The room was COMPLETELY tiled which was awkward to me. The lighting was bad. The staff member that came to our room when we requested clean sheets was extremely rude and unfriendly!

The views. It's under construction. Had to pay more to upgrade my room. This hotel is under renovations. Not all rooms are renovated yet. Make sure to ask for a renovated room. The other rooms are not nice like the new ones.

The room was clean, but a little bare. Walls were stark white with no decorations of any kind. There was only one chair, a rolling one. Since the floors were tiled, not carpeted (really nice tiles), the chair rolled easily, too easily. The restaurant was being remodeled, so was not available. That was a little inconvenient, but understandable. The location is beautiful, the price was excellent. I would definitely stay there again, especially once the restaurant is finished.

The view is the only thing going for this hotel. This hotel makes motel 8 a five star. Everything. The room was terrible with mold on the ceiling and water dripping. Gross. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If every hotel was sold out you should pitch a tent or sleep in your car. And we ate breakfast there which was nothing to get excited about as what they call a buffet is nothing more then an expensive continental breakfast.

The rooms in this newly re-modeled hotel are extremely clean. All tile, so no dusty carpets, new bathroom fixtures, comfortable beds, rolling wooden shutters on windows instead of dusty curtains. LCD TV. Not a great deal of furniture in the rooms, but just enough, has built-in armoires, desk. Pretty view of the bay off the window to the side, hotel is on on the historic and beautiful banyon tree lined street. Easy to find, close to the airport and an easy drive to Volcanoes National Park. We didn't dine in the area, so can't comment on that. Would love to come again and stay longer!

Good location. Hotel was filthy. Certain floors were under construction but the entire hotel was filthy. Chairs and carpet were badly soiled in our room. We asked to be moved and were "upgraded" to a room that was equally filthy.
