I liked my stay in Edinburgh:)To begin with, I and my husband came to visit our student daughter in Edinburgh, thus our goal was to find an accommodation near her apartement and not necessarily in the city center. We liked the surroundings very much: Arthur`s seat, the crags, the hotel gardens with interesting plants...It was clean and quiet, unlike the city center, esp North Bridge...We received the standard of service we expected to receive at a university`s premises at such a price, and there`s nothing to complain about. There was daily room service, the room and the shower room were clean...and it was quiet! Although there seemed to be lots of tourist groups staying at the hotel the same time (we met in the breakfast room), they were probably accommodated elsewhere and nothing disturbed our night rest. Breakfast was served in what seemed the students`diner. Take a tray, load it with food and find a seat. When finished, take the dishes to the dishwasher:) No service at the table. Although a huge place, it was always crowded. And, as a consequence of customer self-service, it was a bit untidy...On the other hand, there was plenty of food and soft drinks available at the buffet. Classic British breakfast items plus some Scottish specialities (haggis, etc). I love British breakfast! To wind up the review I`d like to point out that the place is not probably suitable for those who enjoy `big city lights`, the vicinity of pubs, bars, entertainment places and shopping. Also, the hotel is further off Edinburgh`s main sights (except Arthur`s seat and the crags, which are wonderful!). It takes some 25 min into the city center by foot. But some might enjoy that, too.

I had a quick stay, but the lobby guy was very nice, as was the guy who took my bag up to my room. The bathroom was great. It was not a stadium day, and my room was nice and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. The stairway is a little confusing but I guess it adds character. I'm not sure I would want to stay on a night when a stadium game was in session considering this website states that the hotel is within "roaring distance." But the location is really convenient to the airport.

No complaints. Will stay there again. Just far enough out of town centre to be quiet + parking available.

"Hotel needs some updating as far as wallpaper, in-room TVs and window cleanliness. I would go back again even though we were on the third floor and there was no elevator!"

you are staying in student rooms, there was no tv as i was staying in all night, i would have liked to have known that there was no tv as i stared at the wall all night, the there was the wedding going on very noisy until about 2am then there was a fire door some were in the complex that banged in the wind all night, got up & tried to find out were it was, & i was not going to spoil some ones big day by telling the to keep the noise down. i went there because it was cheap, on the upside its very clean, and the food served in the dinning area is very good lots of buffet style choice

Excellent for the PriceThe room was basic, but had the little extras (tea and coffee facilities in room) that made my pleasant enough! It was clean, but the age of the building is showing - saying that in comparison with a colleague who paid £70 at a one of the large chains, I got a cleaner, better deal - even with a shared shower room.

Ideally located for rugby matches. Centre of activity before and after the game. Easy access to town centre and Haymarket station, by foot.

Very Good ExperienceWe took a shuttle bus from the airport to Waverley Station, which was £6 return. The reception staff were very helpful and were able to give good advice on travelling around Edinburgh and even some of the local history. We were less than 10 mins by bus from the Royal Mile and the castle. Buses were frequent and were £1.20 per trip (or £3 for a day ticket) and £4.20 - £5.40 by taxi. The rooms were fairly basic, as you would expect, but you had everything you needed. Including tea and coffee making facilities, cleans towels, maid service and a good shower. We had a twin roon which was clean (except for a recent cup mark on the bedside cabinet,) and comfortable. The breakfast was included in the price and was very good. It offered a wide selection including fresh fruit, cereal, full cooked breakfast and some traditional Scottish breakfast items, hot drinks and fruit juices. There was a cafe for light snacks and drinks. We would recommend a stay at the Edinburgh First.

Great accommodation, shame about the building workExcellent breakfast! Choice and value. Room basic and clean. Quiet situation with on site parking. 24 hour reception with excellent staff. Unfortunately there was major building work next to the cafeteria and I had to move from the seats next to the work site on the Monday morning as I was coughing from the dust. The floor by the lift on our level was covered in dust from the materials being used to refurbish the room opposite the lift.I felt that this was good basic accommodation but overpriced considering the effect of building and decorating work in progress. All staff were very friendly and helpful. I'd visit again but only after checking what work was being done!

Quality and value for moneyExcellent value for money. Food in the food hall is fantastic and again excellent value for money. I stayed in Baird house- no en suite but loads of very clean bathrooms available. No television, what a relief.I even saved on parking as a 15-20minute walk is all it takes to get you to the Royal Mile and I left my car at the hotel for the day.I have stayed before and I will be staying again.

Better than expected and will definitely be returning!Having stayed at University Accommodation before in various cities I had a good idea of what to expect. However I was pleasantly surprised with nearly all aspects of my stay at Pollock Halls. From the moment I checked in to Reception to the moment I left all the staff were most efficient and courteous and eager to help. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy and it was very quiet at night which was an unexpected bonus!Everyone in the dining room from chefs to assistants were very friendly and they couldn't have been more helpful to guide me around to find the food and cutlery etc.A good choice of food and of good quality and as much as you wish to eat.The excellent Scottish breakfast kept me going most of the day but the £10 evening meal is also well worth it as you can have 4 courses if you add a sweet and cheese and biscuits to the soup or whatever starter and main meal. Finally I must mention the lovely landscaped gardens that are looked after with care by the excellent gardners and the University location next to Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat is perfect for me as I love to go walking there. My only small gripe was the limited bar and ongoing construction work but this didn't really bother me that much and by next year they will have a much better new bar area apparently. At £40 per night including breakfast very good value!

Excellent Value for Money£29.50 for B&B is stunning value for money - nice and clean and excellent breakfast. Standard student room with shared bathroom - slightly threadbare soft furnishings but then what do you expect for this kind of money?

graduation visitThe room represented good value, the electronic card key system failed a couple of times and this was a nuisance. Reception centre very helpful although queues formed. Very airless ensuite bathroom, but kept clean.
