Description:
Enjoy the relaxing and informal atmosphere, with personal attention throughout your stay here in the beautiful Western Lake District. You are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome whether your stay is short or long, for business or pleasure. All rooms are on the ground floor with colour televisions, hairdryers, and complimentary tea or coffee. Most of our bedrooms are en suite. The whole house has been sympathetically and tastefully converted from the school it once was, with the comfort of the guests in mind. There are many attractive walks directly from the Guest House, for all abilities, from ambles to strenuous hill walking. We have maps and books available for guests' use and are only too happy to offer advice if required.
Transportation:
From the NorthCome through Carlisle and continue west on the A595, sign-posted Workington. Follow the A595 past Whitehaven, Egremont and Gosforth. After Holmbrook, you will pass a large Texaco filling station on the right. We are just two miles beyond this. Do not turn into Ravenglass, but bear left on the A595. We are just beyond the Muncaster Castle car park on the left.Allow 70 - 80 minutes from Carlisle. From the SouthLeave the M6 at junction 36 and follow the A590 signs to Barrow. Don't miss the turn to the left about 3 miles along the dual carriageway to Kendal.Continue along the A590 to Newby Bridge, after which there are three short stretches of dual carriageway. On the third stretch of dual carriageway east of Newby Bridge there is a turn off to the right (sign-posted Workington and Whitehaven). Turn off here onto the A5092 and follow the road to Broughton in Furness and then on to the West. Immediately west of Broughton in Furness you will come to a stone bridge with a sharp S bend and traffic lights. Cross the bridge and follow the main road, Muncaster is 12 miles. You will cross the stone humpback bridge over the River Esk about one mile before you reach us. We are about a quarter mile beyond the Muncaster B and BCoach entrance to Muncaster Castle. The Guest House is on the right hand side of the road and has red signs at the entrance, which is just opposite the BT phone box.Allow 70 - 80 minutes from the M6. From the EastThe route from the East is more complicated. If you are in Keswick then come via Cockermouth and Egremont onto then A595 and follow the route from the North. From Ambleside the normal way is via Coniston onto the A595 and then follow the route from the South. If you are feeling adventurous then coming via the Hardknott and Wrynose Pass is a scenic option, but it is single track road and very tortuous. From Bowness and Windermere the best way is via Newby Bridge and then follow the route from the South. All the routes take about 60mins.

Well run private guest houseClean very well maintained guest accommodation in a converted village school. Ideal for a short break in the Western lakes or a base for a longer holiday. Our room was well furnished if a little cramped for two.

Great place to stayMy husband and I stayed at the Muncaster Country Guest House as it was our wedding anniversary, and we couldn't have picked a nicer place. Sheila and Don were just so welcoming, and the food was excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.

Wonderful! All the good things I had read on the previous reviews applied. We were welcomed with a pot of tea and cake on the terrace on arrival and were entranced to see the variety of birds coming to the feeders. The room was well equipped. The breakfast was lovely, again able to watch the birds at the feeders. One of the choices on the evening menu was not to my liking, Sheila immediately offered me an alternative. The presentation was excellent. Our daughter has decided to arrange a visit following our glowing description.

A warm welcome awaited us when we arrived at Muncaster Country Guest House, tea and cakes were served when we arrived in the garden. The weather was glorious and we could have spent all afternoon watching the birds feeding in the garden. The room was of very high standard and was perfect for our needs. The breakfast was of excellent quality and much appreciated. A high quality guest house run by excellent hosts, I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to tour the Lake District.

friendly warm welcome at ravenglassI arrived half an hour late which was nearing midnight but the reception was still warm and friendly. The owners of this b+b printed off a weather forcast for the area and advised us when to visit which tourist attraction. We left and returned a our leisure without disturbing anyone and felt free to use tv,books and mags left out for tourist perousal. The sausages for breaky weren't the best but the view from the breakfast room and the surrounding areas certainly had us gobsmacked.A great little adventure driving weekend and a very hospitable couple who made allowances wherever possible.I would certainly go back again.

Weekend Bike TripI picked Muncaster Country Guest House following the reviews on Laterooms.com, I'm glad I did. Everything previous guests had written was accurate; good food, great welcome and overall excellent value for money. We arrived, two weary and cold bikers and were immediately sat in front of an open fire and given tea and cake to revive us, no prompting and no extra charge - a nice touch.

A lovely setting with lovely owners who are most helpful and welcoming and a brilliant breakfast. Only complaint would be that the rooms are a little old fashioned for our taste but who cares!

Lovely guest house with fantastic food!Stayed here on my 30th birthday with my husband. Received a lovely warm welcome as soon as we arrived and were given tea and homemade short bread in front of the fire. The room was really spacious and clean. The best thing about this guest house was the service and the food - all cooking done by the owner and was absolutely delicious and excellent value for money: 2 x course £12.95, 3 x courses £14.95. Breakfast was included in the price and offered everything you could possibly want!Would recommend for anybody looking for a quiet get away in the Lakes - great location close to Wasdale for Scafell Pike. Overall a comfortable guest house with a really friendly atmosphere.

It was surprising that whilst Laterooms / the bill stated £85 + £15 for an extra bed nowehere on the owners website seen later nor in the price list at the B&B was there a room advertised for more than £75. As we had booked at that price we settled on enquiring of the relief managers who said that there was an additional charge of £10 at weekends - though one of our nights was a Monday. Needs to be clearer on part of owners and we discovered that we could have stayed at Muncaster castle over the road for the same price but with free admission to the castle grounds! Hard to judge overall experience as regular owners were away and relief managers in place who were accommodating and delivere a very good breakfast but obviously had none of the local knowledge that might have been available otherwise.

This is a great B&B for the money. The breakfast is superb and we ate in 3 of the 4 nights we were there and the food was superb. Nice central location for exploring the lakes, Coniston and Windermere are beautiful, so are Ennerdale and Wasdale. All in all, a very relaxing enjoyable vacation and I would definately stay here again.

This has to be the most welcoming home from home i've ever stayed at. The hosts were impeccable when it came to customer service, the food was out of this world and the surroundings were breathtaking. Only one very small critisism would be the bed was like a sponge and very noisy when you turned over but all things considered this did not spoil our break. Sheila and Don are just like old friends we were yet to meet and treated us exceptionally well. Many thanks for a fabulous well needed break x Tammy and Emma x

When I read the reviews I thought perhaps the owner had written them but I can assure you this is the friendliest, best value for money and welcoming place I’ve stayed at for a long time. I will certainly visit again this summer.

Wow, this was a beautiful little find for myself and my boyfriends birthdays. The most impressive aspect of the hotel was the evening MEAL that, at £15 for 3 courses was great value but the dinner itself was the best we have both had together. The bellied pork was perfect, the deserts were wonderful and the starter was fantastic. Very, very good dinner. Breakfasts were huge, all with cereals, fruits and juices as well as crumpets and Full English. Our room looked over a pretty garden, it was warm, the shower powerful, the bed comfortable and the owners lovely. I think our's was the smallest room though. The countryside here is incredible but I would try to not drive here in the dark as it took us a few hours from M'cr as it seems quite remote (but isn't) and the bends in the road are negotiable in darkness, however completely fine. In daylight it's close to everything. The owners make a great team and genuinely enjoy what they do, the open fire is comforting and everyone seems happy here. Perfect.

Very warm welcome - felt right at home with a nice pot of tea and some ginger cake on our arrival. Breakfast was just lovely too - there was choice and everything was very well prepared. A shame we couldn't stay longer to see a bit more - this was just a stopover and seemed lovely.
