THE MOORLANDS HOTEL INDEPENDENT BUSINESS TRAVELLER REVIEW.Upon research of accommodation in the area, the first impression of the Moorlands was that of an excellent value for money hotel. However, upon arrival, I did feel slightly disappointed with the general decor and cleanliness of the downstairs and reception area. Although the hotel had panoramic views of the Plymouth area, the whole place is in need of a complete refurbishment and would benefit from re-decoration to the downstairs reception, dining room, stairwells and bedrooms. I realise this was a budget priced hotel, but there is an opportunity for what seems to be a small independent hotel to benefit and prosper from raised standards. Food was adequate though, especially breakfast.

I like the Moorland and would stay again, but this stay was not a comfortable experience.I was not allocated the room I requested on the 'Late Rooms' booking form. The room I had was over the bar and my neighbours were very noisy both late at night and early the next morning.Chef had an 'unusual' view on how Risotto should be served - swimming in creamy sauce. While he/she is welcome to their view, it needed a roll or other accompanyment if served this way. When I asked for one - none seemed to exist.I did not finish my breakfast as it took ages to arrive and toast never appeared.

Family reunion visitVery friendly staff. My elderly father was given a room on the 1st floor, so he had just one gentle flight of stairs. The restaurant was quiet and the food tasty. The views from the front bedrooms are superb. We would definitely stay again.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming except for the young girl who checked us out at the end of our stay who was moody and sullen. The hotel is situated in wonderful scenic place but is VERY dated and in need of modernisation. It also smelled of dogs!

We had a big room with a great view. The furniture was a little dated but did the job. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Helpful StaffWe stayed at the hotel for one night and found it to be in a lovely setting, close to Plymouth, with plenty of parking. The breakfast was very nice and beautifully cooked. All staff were helpful and polite and one took lots of time to give us directions to Plymouth Arygle. The Room was clean and comfy, if a little dated. £49.95 was fantastic value for money and we would definitely stay there again. Only downside was the bar was closed at 11.30pm. Would have been nice to have had a drink after the concert but it didn't detract from a pleasant stay.

Lovely location. Tired hotelA good location on edge of Dartmoor, with stunning views from hotel bedroom. Rooms were basic and very clean. Hotel itself is tired, and in need of renovation. Full English Breakfast was acceptable food quality but was barely warm when it reached my table, and so was not very nice. So, I would not choose to stay here again.

a very pleasant atmosphere, overlooking the moors, friendly staff. We travelled around from there and found it a good base for the area, away from hustle and bustle.

many thanksthe four poster bedroom was a great extra and very thoughtful as this was for a birthday getaway! The room was large and whilst the decor was a little dated it was really nice.

Outstanding Value for Money!Genuinely stunning views and very friendly staff. Very pet friendly (you need to like dogs) and lovely rural setting. Resturant food delicious (not just the steaks) and outstandng value for money. Nice bar area as well - especially on a hot sunny day. Exterior looks a bit tatty and room decor a bit tired and rough round the edges. If it's marble bathrooms, flat screen plasma TV's and jacuzzi's you're after then this isn't the place for you. But if you're after an informal value for money base for exploring Dartmore and South Devon then this will more than satisfy expectations.

Very Good Value for Money Hotel - Great Staff and a Great Breakfast! We booked this room as a last minute stop off on our journey from London to Falmouth and it was brilliant for our needs. The staff welcome was great, the paperwork was all completed (so there was none of the 15 minute messing about before getting the keys), the room was clean and modern and the breakfast was spot on!

Unbeatable value for moneyThe Moorland Hotel is unpretentious, comfortable and very good value for money. Customer service is excellent, the owners and all their staff are friendly, helpful, in fact just thoroughly nice people.Others have already talked about the wonderful view and the great location on the edge of Dartmoor - I totally agree. The restaurant is modern and although it doesn't have a huge menu, had some innovative \"daily specials\" and what it did, it did very well. The wine list was surprisingly comprehensive and very competitively priced.Breakfast was also excellent. The Moorland Hotel isn't The Ritz but doesn't charge Ritzy prices. I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively on business and the Moorland Hotel can hold its own against many more expensive places. If stay in the Plymouth area again - I will return!

This was the 4th time I'd stayed here over the past few months. Once again can't fault the helpfullnes and friendliness of the staff. Excellent food in restaurant. Each time I've had a different room and the furniture is basic but functional.
