Friendly and courteous staff. The rooms are nicely redone in an old hotel built in the 20's by Charlie Chaplin. The bathrooms are small but efficient and with nice toiletries. The only negative is that is that the hotel is close to the 101 freeway, and there is a constant traffic buzz. On the plus side, a pleasant and cozy bar with a good selection of wines by the glass. The on premises restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices. All in all a good experience

The Montecito was a dream. We had a wonderful time, from the staff to the decor to the continental breakfast. This property has been wonderfully restored and well maintained. The elevator is original with a metal latice door. I loved that everything had the image of Charlie Chaplin (toiletries, pillow chocolate, notepad, etc.). They also provide turndown service with a chocolate on our pillow and we had a single fresh rose in our room. Santa Barbara is a beautiful town that smells of wonderful flowers everywhere. I wish we had stayed longer.

I would most definitely stay at this hotel again. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Previous reviews described the rooms as "small." I did not find this to be the case at all. The rooms were certainly adequate in size and nicely furnished. The bathrooms are a tad small, but again adequate. Some reviewers have noted that the walls are thin and the noise was bothersome. I almost didn't stay here after reading this feedback. Again, I have to argue that this was NOT my impression at all. I did hear a toilet flush early in morning -- probably the room next to mine. But nothing more than this. The hotel definitely has charm! It reminds me of an expensive, classy hotel in Paris. It's location is great! Definitely eat at the restaurant immediately adjacent to the hotel. The food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. I would most defintely return and stay here. In fact, I am thinking about my next trip now!

We happened upon this marvelous old, but thoughtfully updated, hotel thanks to online travel website. It is in a convenient, beautiful location. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, clean and well appointed. It was also an excellent value. We will definitely stay here again.

A charming small hotel with young friendly staff. Well situated for Santa Barbara, Summerland, and Montecito. Nice complementary continental breakfast provided.

Its low key, but elegant. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Enjoyable breakfast in sunny cafe. Located on main drag, easy walking to shops and restaurants. Valet parking at no extra charge!

Wonderful old hotel with the type of charm that is missing from the cookie-cutter chain establishments, yet it has the amenities (like an exercise room and a business center) that have come to be expected by experienced travelers. The on site restaurant is first class and there are other highly-rated restaurants withing walking distance. The hotel is an easy commute by either car or bus to all the downtown Santa Barbara attractions. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.

we really enjoyed our 2 night stay. had business appointments, but did manage to eat at the hotel restuarant and it was superb! the mexican restaurant across the street was good also. the workout facility was great. we stayed on the "street side" which we think is quieter than the back side-the freeway is there. our bathroom was way small-but it worked. if you are large people this bathroom would be way too small... staff was nice, place was clean and decorated so nicely for christmas-felt like being home... a nice fireplace greeting upon arrival.. we plan on making this a regular "getaway" inn! hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

Short Saturday night stay. Under $200 for a Saturday night through Orbitz. Great value for a summer weekend! They permitted an early check-in (10:30 a.m.). Very small room and thin walls but great service, great restaurant on premises and nearby. Tv nice with a DVD player and cable. Pool small but pleasant and fitness room satisfactory and well appointed with towels and water. Great access to freeway and a short bike ride to the beach on their free beach cruisers. If you stay in your room get a larger room. I'll stay again.

Simply wonderful after we got past the parking situation as we checked in. Room was lovely complete with a beautiful rose. Highly recommend, especially for couples or singles as the rooms are small although beautifully appointed. The cold breakfast is as good as a cold breakfast can be.

My husband and I went to his Brother's funeral and needed to be close to family. We have stayed at this hotel many times and love the location since it is close to family and is charming. My only complaint is that the shower drain did not DRAIN and we had a tub and shower in ONE!When told, the front desk said they would get right on it... Hope so. Also, the man at the front desk in the later hours was not very helpful at all when asked if we could get a bottle of wine sent up to our room. But all in all it is the charm that keeps us coming back.

We only expirienced friendly and helpfull staff and the rooms have a wonderful classical and charming atmosphere. It was really a great place to bring children. Great dining at the hotel and just outside the hotel.

Room staff is sorely in need of training and supervision. Lamps did not function (inexplicably did not turn off; were difficult to turn on); digital alarm clock stopped working on second of my five-day stay, and was never repaired/replaced; towel replacement/designer-water replacement; bed-turn-down time varied widely and was spotty; draperies not opened and room not aired; waste-basket not emptied. These people should be taught to follow a check-list in order to provide consistent service! Restaurant: highly popular in the community, this place is apparently oversubscribed and pays little attention to hotel guests/room service. As a single traveler, I was banished to the dark bar at the back of the main room the first rainy night that I was there. It was too dark to read there, so they sent me across the drive to the BAR, where I had a dreadful quesadilla and glass of wine -- $*. Two nights later, I tried to order room service. Another debacle. We exchanged at least ten phone calls to straighten out the order and allow me to have an advertised special in the restaurant which was not on the room-service menu. . . . Upon checkout, I responded to the staff's question about "how was my stay" by describing some of the above. Although the young man appeared to take a few notes, he neither apologized nor commented at all. I guess it's not just the room staff that needs training! Although the location is very convenient to Butterfly Beach (lovely) and the freeways, I would not stay there again.

Lovely hotel with nice amenities in the rooms, albeit small bathrooms. Service excellent, lovely Continental breakfast with lots of free newspapers every morning, comfortable beds, great pillows, thick towels. Location ideal for beach and for walking and window shopping and real shopping. Day spas nearby and excellent restaurants in the hotel as well as next door and down the street.

The hotel certainly has history and charm, but it is now bounded by the freeway and a very busy street and is therefore noisy. Our room was tiny, especially the bathroom (think airplane size plus a small shower stall), but the bathroom does have lovely hand-painted tiles and nice soaps and towels. The hotel does have pretty, old world decor in the public areas and fresh flowers througout - nice touch. The room has a small 'frig, good TV, DVD player, but is small. Just not our style. Folks into antiques might like it. Also, the complimentary continental breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary, especially for an award-winning cafe (but the coffee was excellent).

This darling jewel of an inn is as quaint as the picture looks! The location is ideal, walking distance to everything, including the beach and lots of shops and restaurants. The staff was so courteous and when their computers for customers went down let me use the front desk computer to check my e-mail and print my boarding pass. The room was very clean and nicely furnished, and I am PICKY. The bathroom was small but adorable with nice tiling in the shower and pedestal sink. I also appreciated the lighting in the bathroom, no fluorescent overheads that give you a headache and make your skin look BAD! I did not use the pool but it looked lovely. The rate I received on the online travel website was very good considering other rooms elsewhere were much more but not as nice and located in such a desirable area. All in all, I would stay here again and will.

Very warm and friendly, elegant details in the room. The room was comfortable and cozy and the bed was so soft and welcoming. There wasn't a counter to put your things on as there was a pedestal sink in the bathroom, but the old-school style was worth the minor inconvenience. The location was charming, but my husband was disappointed that we could see the ocean from our window, just the roof of the hotel.

This hotel is ideally located in Monteceito close to downtown Santa Barbara. It was built by Charlie Chaplin and is very charming. You are walking distance to some great restaurants and shops. The cafe in the hotel was great for dinner/desert, and the staff were very helpful. I would request a quiet room if noise bothers you. Some rooms are on the freeway side and there is no air conditioning, just fans. If noise bothers you I would suggest staying on the front side of the hotel. It was very clean, and everyone was super friendly and helpful. I would suggest it for incredible value in an ideal location.

I thought the hotel although small had everything that I needed. Although the room was small and the view was a roof, as a single person it was fine for me. The queen bed was very comfortable, the maid service did a good job and the mini fridge was a plus. They have a small gym with an ellyptical, treadmill, free weights, recumbent bike and small machine set up. The walk to the beach is a good 2 blocks and the beach is small but nice. Although, I didn't dine at the hotel, it has a very good reputation. They have a small bar with a light menu and the staff was friendly. Montecito shuts down around 10pm, so if your looking for nightlife, you'll find it on State St, The hotel made for a pleasant stay and I will go back again.
