Hotel is dated, rooms very clean just need updating. have stayed here many times but each visit just gets worse. The bar has had a refurbish, glitzy lights and loud music (not what you want on a business trip really!). Don't think i will use this hotel again!

WONDERFULEaster 11-13 April 2009. What a lovely place. Nothing was missed from making this maybe the best s/c accomodation we have stayed in. So nice not to have to race to the shop because you have forgotton dishwasher tablets etc. its all there. All refreshments were there for your arrival. Sofa amazing!! Fabulous in every way, location, cleanliness, parking etc. We will be back thank you.

Great location. Poor accommodation. The first thing I noticed was the bathroom ceiling was covered in mold. As regards to the service, there was a lack of leadership, the staff were all very young & seemed unable to cope under pressure. Breakfast was a fiasco as mistakes where made with most of the guests orders (Items missing etc)The hotel includes a residents bar, which was closed!Great location but don't expect too much. This is not a 3 star hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times. The staff are very friendly and will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. This time it was our anniversary, in our room was a card and a bottle ow wine from the hotel, we also got a family room instead of a double. This was a very nice gesture on behalf of the hotel. I also noticed that they are starting to up date the paint work in the communal areas. Although you do get continental breakfast, crousants, meat, cheese you can also get cereal, yogurt, fruit cocktail and fresh fruit in with this. You can have a fully cooked breakfast for £6.95 which does keep you going for quite a while. I am glad that I took no notice of the other reviews on this hotel. It is very central to york and withing easy walking distance of all the shops. The only comment I have, is in the bathrooms should have bath sheets instead of bath towels.

PLEASE READ: Upon arrival we were allocated room 14 in the attic. Very difficult to carry the suitcase up long, narrow winding stairs. When we opened the door we were in total shock and just looked at each other in disbelief. The room was APPALLING! Absolutely disgusting - DO NOT ACCEPT THIS ROOM. You could only walk around the bed sideways like a crab due to the lack of room. The room sloped sharply to just 4 ft off the ground so you couldn't even stand in the rest of the room. The ceiling was cracked and yellowed. There were damp patches on the tatty, old, torn wallpaper. The chairs looked as if they'd been pinched from a tip - they had dirty marks on the head rest and the tattered, filthy fringing at the bottom was hanging off. The old, wooden wardrobe was small, cramped and so dirty that I wouldn't let my cat stay in there. The carpets were dirty - the bin not emptied and there was no toilet roll. FOUL. The girl on reception (not her fault, she was lovely) said there were no more rooms and came up with polish + cloth, bin liner and toilet roll and attempted to try and improve this dump of a room that should NEVER be rented out as a hotel room. I just stood in tears at our ruined Birthday weekend after two and a half hours travelling. Despite her offering us the room at ridiculously low prices I wouldn't have stayed there for free - it was dirty, cramped and vile. In fact the room was just too disgusting to stay in for another second so we resolved to turn around and go back home and lugged our suitcases back to reception. I don't think I've ever complained about anything in my life - but this was disgusting. They suddenly found us an upgrade - room 23 - which actually resembled a hotel room. It had a double and single bed and was very comfortable to stay in. There was a kettle with tea/coffee packets and biscuits. There is a hairdryer and trouser press. They did offer a discount on the bill, the staff were friendly and it was very close to the town, but the following has to be mentioned for anyone considering staying here. Our bathroom felt a bit 'grubby' with yellowing, flaking paint on the radiators. There were silverfish in the bath. The enamel bath had streaks down it. The shower attachment knob was broken. The toilet paper was the absolute cheapest they could have possibly found. The carpets weren't particularly clean. There was a dead wasp on the window sill for 2 days (in November). Throughout the hotel the wallpaper looked dirty and in desperate need of being replaced. Carpets did not look hovered. Paintwork was cracked, chipped and flaking. You have to negotiate endless stairs and narrow corridors. Everywhere looked in dire need of having a couple of hundred thousand invested to drag it up to even a decent standard. I've stayed at numerous hotels and B&Bs- all of which have been clean and pleasant; this is definitely the most threadbare place I've even seen let alone stayed in. In the restaurant, there were dirty splatters up the wallpaper. The air was filled with smoke from the black rock fillet steak cooking method (for a £16 fillet it wasn't even a very good piece of steak). 6 things on the menu were not available as weren't three bottles on wine on the wine list. The young waiter tried his best and was a lovely lad but had a huge stud through his eyebrow. The walls had grimy tongue-in-groove wood cladding and the tiles were worn. This isn't 'shabby chic' - it's just shabby and very run down. The hotel is central to York, but you'll be extremely disappointed with the poor state and grubbiness of this inferior, aging hotel. I would hate anyone else to plan a special weekend away and find themselves here. Nowhere did I see evidence of it's 3* status. It is generally poorly maintained, falling apart and dirty.

Fantastic - a gem in the heart of YorkFrom the moment we arrived we were welcomed by friendly faces. Accommodation is beautiful and ideal for a family as there is a great lounge area to relax in. The Restaurant below was such good quality that we didn't eat in at all. Right in the heart of York - superb would highly recommend.

Could try harder!Standards have lapsed dramatically. The student caterers can't even cook toast competently! Still a good site for the city of York and people looking after us were pleasant.

The best accomodation I've found in a very long time.Forget the hotels in York. This is the place! Just like being at home(probably better). The resaurant below the apartment is superb.Excellent quality food with a range of dishes to suit every palate &,thankfully, no 'nouvelle cuisine'. Goodselection of wine. In three days we never ate anywhere else.Very professional & very friendly staff. No hesitation in giving The Music House the highest rating. Marks out of ten? 12.

Review on short stay at Minster Hotel, YorkValue for money, excellent location for the Minster and most other attractions in York City. Friendly and helpful staff. Very good breakfast, but would have appreciated a fully staffed bar with more attractive decor.Overall, a convenient and pleasant stay.

Short Stay Weekend - Value for moneyBRoom was booked late on a special offer - The idea of secure parking so close to the centre made it doubly attractive. Found the room eventually at the top of the hotel, it was afair size and clean. Unfortunately athough advertised their was no evening dining so we went out to one of the many local pubs at night. The bar was a very limited service on night one and a sign on the door stating private party ( wedding) on night two meant we did not have another of the advertised facilities. The price was cheap and it was a very late booking so we left it at that

I have stayed at this hotel on numerous times but this time the room needed up dating. We also requested not to be put in the lodge and this was confirmed on the phone we would not be put there, on arrival they gave us the lodge room, but they gladly changed it when we stated that we requested not to be put there. The staff are very helpful. They just omitted to give us toast and tea at breakfast when it had been requested.

Jaded hotel. Room had smallest bathroom I have ever seen. Free wifi which worked in my room at the top of the hotel. Free car parking. Easy walk to Minster and town centre.

Good location shortwalk from York centre but on a noisy commuter road and single glazed. Ask for a room at the back if you can! Room small and looking a bit worn out. Staff friendly. Let down by breakfast which was very limited and toast burnt.

Clean, comfortable, friendlyI stayed in a twin room with my son and we were unable to have a second key because the spare one didn't work. This was very inconvenient for us as we were doing different things but no doubt it has been taken care of, as will the dead lightbulb in the very dark lobby into the room, which we reported. The continental breakfast provided plenty of variety and we appreciated the fresh fruit with it. The hotel is wonderfully placed for quick walking access to the beautiful walled town and the afternoon receptionist was especially helpful.

AverageLocation of the hotel was great and the staff were very courteous. However, the room was somewhat tired and the carpet did not appear to have been hoovered. The quality of cooked breakfast was also disappointing, thankfully we were not charged for this.

May 08Hotel easy to find, excellent free parking close to the city centre. Check in smooth with friendly staff. Bedroom had peeling wallpaper and the bath was grubby. The radiator which was situated beside the toilet was gross, discoloured and rusty obviously was suffering from the poor aim of male guests.
