Miller Howe - Feb 2009The location is stunning. Very helpful and couteous staff. Only breakfast was taken in respect of the food score but this was excellent and we would believe that dinner would be of an equally high standard although the £40 Table D'Hote menu was extremely limited and in that respect with 10% Service charge looked expensive. If you wanted a choice A la Carte was the only option which of course was an even higher price.. The "laterooms" deal was very good but we would have been very disappointed if we had paid the full rate for the room. The room and the bathroom were in urgent need of refurbishment and did not do justice to the overall initial impression given via the hotel website. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. There was a small balcony but the paving had not been laid and the main extractor fan and chimney for the kitchen was right outside the bedroon window on the balcony.The public rooms (lounge and dining room) were comfortable and in general in good decorative order. We stayed at Storrs Hall, Woinderemere last December and the room there would have scored a 5 rating - again this was on a late booking deal so comparable to this experience.

We had a fabulous stay and will be staying again if we get the chance. The only disappointment was not getting bucks fizz at breakfast as promised in the information in the room - particularly since it was VAlentine's Day! Otherwise we couldn't fault it and next time we'll try to book a room with the fantastic view

In the past this was one of the places to stay in the lake District, it is still superb, a quiet tranqil place with magnificent views (and we were lucky - sunsets) pay the extra and have a lake view, you wont be disapointed, although i don't thick i wpould pay full price for the hotel, got a good late deal price. Food again fantastic with a small menu but all cooked to perfection, and good variety for breakfast. Grounds were fantastic, but should be fantastic at any time of the year due to the setting.

hotel needs a re vamp especially restaraunt which is reminds one of 1980s italian bistro , and outside tatty, amazed that no tea and coffee making facilities ,the room feel impersonal but great views, some much better hotel in the Lake district

This is our very favourite hotel in the Lake District. We had a lovely room with a balcony which overlooked Lake Windermere. If you are looking for a classic, romantic break, this is your hotel (but take a second mortgage out if you pay full tariff, Lateroom, tariff is excellent value!) The food is imaginative. The Bucks Fizz for breakfast made a great start to the day. Good selection to choose from for breakfast. Evening meal very good but expensive (£45 per head). You will not be disappointed if you stay here. It has remained a classic hotel that has not gone the "minimalist" decor way of others. Along with Sharrow Bay, it has one of the best views in the area. We loved our stay!

The food at this hotel is simply superb. Our room was warm and comfortable and I liked the carafe of water at the bedside and lovely toiletries. Will certainly stay here again.

Lovely small hotel with a nice atmosphere, we had a luxury room overlooking the lake, it had a exellent view but wasn't terribly big. We also ate in the restaurant. The food was excellent and our stay felt like a really nice treat. we would definitely stay again.

Excellent Food & Service.Upgraded FOC to a room with a Lake View........as good as it gets!Great for a short break.......no need to leave hotel grounds as Bo'ness is very touristy.

wonderful in just one word, stay here and you wont be disapointed. great room, we had the cottage 1st floor in the grounds, real quality all round. super towels, great duvee, toiletires as good as anywhere, freindly staff, sherry in room, bucksfiz for breakfast on way in foc, great views from room, great views over lake from conservatory and dining/breakfast room. clean, really claen everywhere, total mint place, we really recomend it. Breakfast very good, strong cumberland sausage over powering, no mushrooms in place sauted potatoes, but the home made porridge is great, good selection. 6 course dinner would only put me off eating there are nearly £50 incl service charge.

I stayed at the Miller Howe with my 8 yr old daughter for one night and we were both made very welcome. The hotel has real character, especially the lounge areas and very lovely gardens. Very good breakfast with wide choice ( even lemon sorbet as a first course! ).

The ONLY issue I had was that the coffee needed to be stronger, it was very weak.

The hotel room was excellent, very good quality furnishings. The double bed was enourmous, and very, very comfortable. We stayed Bed & Breakfast for one night, and for the money we paid was excellent value. However the breakfast I must say, was very dissapointing, although the quality of the food was first class, the portions were very very small, If you like a FULL English you will be dissapointed.

The hotel is in a superb position with lovely gardens and a restaurant with a magical view of Windermere Lake. The bedroom we had was spacious and clean but no view, Breakfasts were everything you could want ( and more) However the weak point, in our opinion was the evening dinner menue which was 'Modern English' which looked suspiciously like 'nouvelle cousine' or presentation over substance and not what you want after a day walking in the 'Lakes' and oh, no tea making facilities and a promised morning tea failed to arrive.

A truly unique Hotel, with fantastic staff, wonderful food, great wines and an incredibly relaxing atmosphere. Wonderful views from the Hotel and to what was a very special weekend. I would thoroughly recommend Miller Howe and look forward to returning!

Wonderful lake view from a lovely bedroom with sumptious king size bed. Good attention to detail and food first class as befits establshment with such a reputation. Staff friendly and helpful made this birthday treat a memorable visit and with late rooms special rate this proved extremely good value for a top class hotel.
