Phew! Tired out.Due to the number of stairs not suitable for the elderly, people with walking difficulties and those with young children.
Date of Stay:
December, 2008
The room I was allocated was tiny, cramped, and located next to the hotel facilities room, so I was woken twice during the night by machinery humming. I don't think the room in question is really fit to charge full rate for.

Cheap and cheerfulStaff were very friendly. The room we stayed in served its purpose, as other reviews here the climb up the stairs wasnt great but hey for the price you cant complain. There was a lot of noise as our room faced the main street but we got over it. I would stay here again.

Looks dodgy from the outside, but the rooms were clean and had everything that was needed, including an iron and ironing board. Much better value than travel inn, however there were lots of stairs and no lift. Had to go over the road to reception, but staff were very friendly.

old tired matress...No matter how good or bad a place is I feel that a decent matress is the least a hotel could provide. matress sunken in the middle with springs surfacing makes one wonder how old it is, how many peaople have slept on it and what else is living inside it. Combining with an entrance from main street filled with violent drunks at night.... Not going back!!!!

Basic! The accomedation was very basic, but pleasent! It wasnt 5* but ok as a cheap stop over! The only problem was there were alot of stairs, so if u were staying for more than one night, carrying your baggage maybe a problem! We were just lucky we were only staying for one night!

ML Lodge CardiffCheap and cheerful, does the job, great location, go for a low numbered rooms if you have dodgy knees as theres load of stairs to climb to the higher numbered rooms. Recommended.

This was a very basic but clean and in a very good location. Would not be suitable for parents with young children because there were so many stairs! and no lifts! But for me and my friend it was ideal, right in the middle of the city, good value for money and the room was clean with a powerful shower. So all in all for how much we payed to stay here i would recomend it if you are in the city and just want some where to sleep and have a shower, its ideal!

the room was very basic dirty underware left in wardrobe shower very basic will not stay their againpaid £7 for over night parking only to find out when i got to the carpark that it was free to park from 6pm-8am anyway, the carpet in the room was dirty we kept our shoes on, shower room was very basic, dirty underware from previous guests still in wardrobe, valance around the bed had dirty marks on it,spare bedding in wardrobe was dirty, didint get their till 6.30pm went straight their from manchester airport after a four hour flight from lanzarote for urdd eisteffod event stayed 1 night didnt have breakfast left hotel at 6.30 am otherwise would have complained and moved to another hotel this establishment would be ideal if you were left with absaloutly no other option i can only hope that my daughter fogives me the only thing i can say positive was that they didnt have a family room so they allowd my son to stay on an airbed at no extra cost but then again if they hadnt i probably would have booked another hotel so maybe it wasnt such a good thing afterall

great!I really enjoyed our stay here. Its in the heart of the party area in the city. The only bother was that our room was at the top of about 5/6 flights of stairs!

In excellent location, But can be full of hen/stag parties so can be very noisy.Found this lodge to be in an excellent position for all cardiff amenities BUT can be full of hen/stag parties and there comings and goings are not monitored as they do not have an attended reception. We found on our visit the other guest was noisy all night, slamming doors, general loud laughing and banging, We found it too noisy to get any sleep all night, Not suitable if you have young children or for elderly guest.

Just what we wantedMet our requirements very well. Staff very accommodating and helped with parking arrangements close to hotel. Room compact but inexpensive, clean and quiet.

Brilliant Location!!We chose the place for it location and it was worth every penny - being bang in the middle of St. Mary's street where all Pubs and Bars are situated. Though it can get very noisy over weekends when you are trying to sleep after a day out !! But overall, just the place to be if you want to be where the action is.

when the group of 8 of us arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a young girl who seemed very pleasant to start off with but soon became very abrupt and rude when there was a confusion over the payment for our rooms. this was because our bank details had been taken during the booking process and we thought we had payed for our room, especially when there was a conformation email showing the amount. in the end we appreciated the fact that it was our misinterpretation of the booking but the manner in which the matter was dealt with was very upsetting. the room was up a few flights of stair (above a fast food chain) and it was a good job we were not carrying much luggage and are able bodied as the position of the room was not made clear during the booking process either. the room was not very pleasing for the amount payed, alot of the facilities were old and/or broken. the room had clearly been well used and the interior was very unattractive the room. however it could be seen that it had been cleaned; bathroom suite was clean with soap and towel and bed linen was clean. i would suggest this as a place to doss down after a night out for young adult if they are willing to pay that amount of money for a shabby room. if it wasnt for the location this hotel wouldn't have much going for it.two more things, the accommodation was advertised as B&B but when we went for breakfast they asked for £6.50 so we went to a place called pillar restaurant of the main high street opposite new look and got a fab breakfast for £2.60! and not parking included with the hotel and had to pay £12 for overnight parking

A good place for a cheap, no-frills stayMy needs were simple, as I just wanted somewhere cheap for a one-night stay before an event in Cardiff. The room was large, clean and basically (but adequately) furnished. The bed was comfortable and the room was warm, although there was a bit of an annoying rattle from the window-frame whenever buses passed below. As others have commented, the stairs are steep and narrow, so it is not a place for anybody with mobility issues. It's also worth noting that they want a £20 cash deposit for the key when you check in, so ensure you have some cash with you.The location of the ML Lodge is great if you're exploring the city by foot, as it's right on the high street and just a few minutes walk from the Millennium Stadium, castle, museum, university buildings and a surprisingly nice park.

Great LocationI've visited Cardiff for the first time for a conference and all I needed was a place to sleep basically. The hotel is located in the heart of the city, literally in the middle of the vibrant shopping archades, bars and restaurants. It is also within walking distance from the central rail station, which is great even if you have lots of luggage to carry (though you might not want to carry lots of luggage up the stairs of the hotel as there aren't any lifts). The room itself and the bathroom were clean - the only not very pleasant thing was the blanket (it was a bit smelly) which I took out of the closet cause it was a bit cold at night. It might not have been used for a while. You should also be prepared to climb some steep stairs to reach your room but you can count that as part of your daily exercise! Other than that, great location, reasonable price for a city hotel, and a nice place to stay when in Cardiff!
