we have just returned from a 2 day stay at this hotel and its a very mixed review. Firstly the hotel is a very good base for seeing chester, its clean, very helpful staff and we got a really good rate, altho the parking was a worry we didnt feel our car was secure in the hotel car park. This was not helped by some undesirables who frequently walked by the hotel ( im taking of people walking around with no shoes on, a girl bleeding from here stomach which seemed "normal" to others around??????????????????. We got to know a local barman in the city centre and he said he agreed and best to stay away from that area, hard to do when your staying there, so obviously its common knowledge although not to you and I. This is the first review I have ever written but i felt obliged to do so, I would want to know.

Chester by the CanalThe food was quite good, and everything was clean. The public parts were good and the leisure facilities were excellent. Good accessability to the city, which was what we wanted. We stayed in the old part of the hotel, and the room was in need of refurbishment, it was dated with old furnishings, carpet and windows. The lift was broken 2 out of the 3 days we were there, and we were on (technically) the 4th floor, so it was a climb! We stayed in a Village Prem hotel the 3 nights previous to this stay, it was cheaper and the quality was far superior. If I went back, I would ask for a room in the new part of the hotel.

We arrived early so managed to get a parking space but parking is limited and its not secure. The staff on reception were very polite and friendly. Without us asking, they gave us directions how to get to the local attractions and gave us a local map.The hotel was only a few minutes walk to the town centre. The hotel bar was the jewel in the crown, it was more of a pub than a bar. It’s the first hotel bar that I have been in for years that actually serves hand pulled real ale, instead of the usual electric pumps serving up what is normally called smooth. The selection of ales was first class although, the beer would have benefited if it had been just a few degrees colder. The beer cost £2.50 per pint, other hotels take note and stop ripping of guests with extortionate bar prices. We reserved a club room which was of a good size, shame there was no remote control for the tv. Is it just me who walks into a room and the first thing I do is to switch on the television, we were lost without it. Reception got a remote control for us but the picture quality was poor. Before we checked into our room we had a walk round the town and bought a few dairy products to snack on later and also some milk. We were disappointed to find there was no fridge in the room. Hotel manager please note, a club room at just above £90 should have a fridge.Breakfast was very poor, choice of starters and main course was very limited. No beans, no mushrooms, was not offered any toast. The usual fried eggs were displayed under a heated light but turned out to be like those rubber joke eggs including the yoke that was practically impenetrable by the knife. I ended up with just two rashers of bacon and a sausage (worst breakfast ever experienced) When the waiter came to collect the plates I pointed out to him that the egg was inedible, his reaction was to smile and walk away. The breakfast experience spoilt our stay, had it not been for this we would have happily tried this hotel again but sorry we will i

excellent location !We stayed two nights recently for a weekend break. The hotels location is excellent although its on a busy road on one side, this isnt too much of a problem. your only about 5 minutes away from the city center which is superb. We didnt bother with the breakfast on the 2nd day, as there were notices sayin that they were expecting it to be busy, to be honest it was busy enough on the 1st day, and the quailty of the breakfast wasnt that special, so we just had a longer lie in instead. Also the general decoration of the hotel is a bit run down and could do with an update, but that said every thing worked and was clean.Overall this is an excellent base for exploring chester city and i would generally recommend it if thats what your after.

Wonderful stay - hotel in perfect position - short walk along the canal to city centre. Superbly stocked bar [real ales!], great service from hotel staff. Our room was comfortable and had the largest wall-mounted flat screen TV we've seen in a bedroom! Only regret was we had no time left to use the gym, pool or beauty spa - all very appealing, to be sampled next time, as we will definitely revisit and have already recommended to friends.

Mill Hotel & Spa ChesterThis hotel is in short walking distance of Chester centre. It is right on the canal and the immediate area is a bit run down. The room was comfortable and well appointed. The public areas and the hotel generally are a little cramped but ok. The swimming pool is a good size with modern and clean changing rooms. The hotel bar has a great range of real ales and seemed to be permanently crowded. Breakfast was good but nothing exceptional. We didn't take any other meals in the hotel but there were several eating options. Only real criticism was that the hotel was generally too hot - possibly to cater for the large number of elderly clientele.

Enjoyed very pleasant stay. Took dinner on the cruiser; food excellent though the boat sits low in the water, so views somewhat curtailed. Hotel (club) room clean and comfortable. Breakfast and staff excellent. Didn't use spa.

Our stay at the Mill HotelOften go to Chester, usually stay at a B&B in Hoole Road, so have often passed the Mill on the way into town. The B&Bs are getting so expensive we thought we would try a \"proper\" hotel.Difficult to find the car park, but we arrived very early-about 11.30-and the pleasant receptionists let us check in straight away. Room was fine, quite big, decor a bit dated but clean and with all the facilities including trouser press, iron and board, hairdrier, tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen television. What impressed us most was the staff, all very friendly, helpful and attentive. Very well trained and organised. Breakfast was very good, did have one evening meal in the restaurant which we found rather average. Easy and interesting walk into town.

The 1st room we were allocated was not so good, we ask for a room change. This was the other side of the river it was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The upgrade did not cost us any extra.
