NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!! If I could rate this hotel less than a 1 I would! My husband and my 3 year-old son were traveling through Iowa on their way to Chicago yesterday (6/1/08) and I made them a reservation online at Microtel Inns & Suites because it looked like a very nice hotel with a nice continental breakfast served in the morning. They arrived at about 8:30pm to check-in and were told that they didn't have reservations. My husband called me and I was listening to the lady go on and on about how there were no non-smoking rooms available. I had the reservation number and she still wouldn't listen to my husband and kept arguing. She told us we would have to call the "website's number" to get help. The website's number was HERS! It was from Microtel's own website that I made the reservation. Customer service called her and she continued to argue with her! I was told to call in and file a formal complaint with the main customer service number. In the mean time the power went out in this building and my husband went to the front desk to find out why and was told it was because of the flooding - there was absolutely no rain outside!! He was given a candle and sent back to his room where he tried to console my son who was scared to death in the dark, unfamiliar room. The had to sleep all night long with no air conditioning or fan on when it was over 80 degrees outside. The power finally came on at 6:10am - most likely it was because the hotel hadn't paid their utility bill. I put in a formal complaint with customer service today and they told me there was NOTHING they could do for us! It wasn't their fault the electric was out and they were "sorry!!" CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?? This is a worthless, no good hotel chain that could care less about their customers. What happened to customer service and getting what you pay for?? Would you stay in a dark hotel room with no heat or air with a 3 year-old that is afraid of the dark? NEVER AGAIN will I or anyone I know ever st

We stayed at this hotel while visiting the IA State Fair and it was also a local national race weekend, so the hotel was very busy. We decided to stop at the hotel on our way to the fair to check in. The person at the desk could not find our reservation that I had booked 3 weeks prior, and said that they had cleared all of their reservations at the end of July. They had 2 rooms left and she was able to get a room for us and gave us the rate we were quoted when I booked through online travel website. I had a copy of our travel reservation that listed the rate otherwise we would have had to pay almost twice what we had booked it at. It ended up working out OK for us, but if we would have waited to check in later that night we would not of had a room. My suggestion is to call ahead the day before to confirm your reservation and take a copy of your confirmation page. The hotel is new, clean, and was comfortable
