The hotel was easy to reach from the train station. It was located on a quiet side street so you didn't have go through crowds of people with your suitcase. On arrival we got a pleasant welcome from the receptionist and gave us a free map of florence which we found very useful during our visit. We were recommended the restaurant located near to the hotel (turn left out of the hotel, the first restaurant you get to), which we found very pleasant especially after such a long day travelling. The hotel was in an ideal location; about 5 mins to San Lorenzo and about 3 minutes further to the cathedral. The room was clean and tidy. The only thing we could complain about is running out of toilet roll! However, on departure we had an unpleasant experience. The lady on reception could not speak a single word of english and when we came to pay she couldn't even operate the card machine. She had to ring her husband up to come to the hotel which was only suppose to take 10 mins. We waited 15 mins, by this time we were getting more and more worried about missing our bus to the airport. We tried to ask for her phone number so we could do a telephone payment or bank transfer when we got back but she couldn't understand us. We decided we should just leave but when we did she locked the door and wouldn't let us out. I would have considered coming back to the hotel but after the unpleasant experience on departure I would rather stay somewhere else. Make sure if you do stay here that she is not on reception the day you leave.

Small modest hotel, near to the city center and train station, clean, our windows looked at a nice garden where the breakfast was also served. Faenza street is under reconstruction now, it is not comfortable, but it has many nice cafes and restraunts. Very competent and helpful English speaking staff.

The lobby smelled like urine, neighborhood was dicey and the breakfast was substandard. I am not sure why this place gets such good marks from others. Worst place of our trip.

The elevator in the hotel is really bizarre. It only works when you keep pressing the button and extremely slow. Location of the hotel is very convenient for historical part of the city. Hotel is on a narrow street and you can hear all voices of the people passing through and garbage men during all night. The street is normally closed to through traffic and we had a problem to find the hotel with the navigation device in the car. They have an agreement with a private garage for 15 euros per night, sometimes it may take up to one hour to get the car in front of the hotel.

We wanted something inexpensive and close to the Fortezza de Basso for a conference, and for this the Mia Cara fit the bill. However, as business owners away from the office we also wanted internet access. Half the staff said there wasn't any internet access, then finally someone said it was 'down' (for several days). When it was supposedly working again, the several user names and passwords we were given weren't recognized, and the staff member we dealt with was both very unhelpful, rude, and unwilling to give us a refund without a big argument first. There are so many small hotels nearby, I don't feel compelled to stay at the Mia Cara in the future.

Location is not bad as it is quite near train station and shopping area. But breakfast could be improved.

We stayed there for 2 nights. The room is quite spacious. The heater (and air-con) is very good and running well, with extra heater in the bath room. The location is good and not far from SMN station at all. We found that the breakfast is literally nothing, just a few pieces of cold breads and milk (but this seems to be typical Italian breakfast which not be able to fill people's stomach). At first we got a room with a bad smell, quite stink. Just good that we could change the room since it would be such a nightmare to sleep in that room. Our room is at the backside and it's close to another hotel's terrace. There were some people out there hanging around and making some noises but luckily they packed up back to their rooms before midnight (just because it was cold in the night).

The hotel staff were not able to speak English - one employee who helped us in the first day spoke a little Spanish. Breakfast was simple yet sufficient. The surroundings are fine.

Very close to the station; friendly English-speaking staff; good clean room with enough space; good value for money considering it was end of summer season; breakfast not worth having but plenty of bars nearby for coffee and brioche. Easy walk to many restaurants, tourist attractions and transport.

Like so many smaller hotels, not all rooms in the Mia Cara are created equal. My double was spacious, had a TV, and a good bathroom with an enclosed shower. One of my friends had a single with a TV and an enclosed shower. The other had a single with no TV and an open shower with a drain on the bathroom floor -- something I personally don't mind but that other travelers might. They paid the same price for their rooms. My room overlooking the courtyard was quiet; I think it must have double-paned windows, always a good thing in stone cities. Rooms overlooking Via Faenza would not be so quiet, but the street is restricted, no vehicles are allowed, only scooters. It's very convenient to the train station, and right around the corner on Via Cennini is a superb restaurant, I Due G, which serves cucina tipica toscana. The most problematic aspect of the Mia Cara is the breakfast. Offerings are basic, the croissants aren't particularly fresh, and the breakfast room features a cardinal sin, machine-dispensed coffee. There is simply no excuse for this in a country with such excellent coffee. I had my morning espresso elsewhere. Overall, though, good value for money. I would stay at the Mia Cara again.

Great location! Walk to train and bus stations. Close to Duomo and other major sights. Don't expect much help from the staff....nice enough, but not very knowledgeable. As previous guests have stated, really poor breakfast. Noisy little alley but location makes it worthwhile.

What can I say on the hotel? I was there only for some hours, hours of love, intimacy and tenderness with the best woman I ever met... We came in and went out on the wings of love, and nothing disturbed us, so everthing was perfect like our relation ... may be not an objective feedback ... but a propitious one to all lovers in Florence P.S. The hotel's name "Mia cara" means "My darling" or "Honey" or whatever sweet name you want to use for your twin soul...

The address was a bit confusing since number 90 does not usually come after 45 so it was a bit hard to find. The courtyard is the nicest feature of the hotel! The lobby needs some improvement to make it more welcoming.
