give it a trythe merith house hotelalthough basic and rooms small , price ok ish , breakfast ,cereals, toast ,yoghurts, apple , banana's juice tea coffee. the room and bathroom were very clean and serviced each daythe quality of the stay was much improved by cath the manager who exceeded all expectations in service delivery helpfulness and saved us time and money. use it as a base to get out and about and this b+b will be fine, on bus routes 35 from the airport only £1.20 100 metres from hotel other buses stop right outside.

DissapointingWe were very dissapointed, we were expecting a hotel, not some kind of hostel. Very small room on 2nd floor, no lift, where you could hardly manouvre. Not recommended if your a bit older. Bed was between 2 walls. Had to climb over bed to get in. Bed was ok. En suite had a very narrow entrance. If your a size 8 it will do..:-) Breakfast: just toast and jam with some fruit and coffee or tea.

Loved it... would go back again.. clean clean & clean!I loved this place.... very down to earth, friendly and central. My room was spotless, looked modernly decorated. LCD TV with loads of channels. I think there was at least 50 or more. Clean towels. Plenty of hot water. clean bathroom. Breakfast there was cereals, yoghurts & juices, hot drinks.... plenty for me! I skipped lunch. Bad point - only 1 bar of soap provided in shower room, but that was fine.

Quality of roomReal nice welcome, continental breakfast. Room had enough space for the bed but for nothing else. Looks real used and old. To expensive. We were after to several B&B's. Prices were cheapper, rooms much bigger and we got incl. continental and Scotish breakfast.During our travel no other Hotels charged us with add 3% for payment with VISA as this Hotel did.I'll no recommend them.

Good value, friendly service but bijou roomIn terms of value for money, this was the cheapest of our B&B rooms in Edinburgh, but it is a case of getting what you pay for. If you are on a tight budget and just need somewhere to put your head down, then this accommodation is OK.It's fair to say though that our room was extremely small with barely space to store our baggage. Our room was at the back and had no views to speak of. The TV was ancient, the picture quality was poor, sound for BBC2 non-existent and it did not have teletext. Also beware that the room must be paid for on arrival, and there is a surcharge for using a credit card.Having said all that, the hotel manager was very friendly and helpful, and the continental breakfast (again, considering what we paid) was very good.

Worse than student accommodationApart from the polite staff (goodness knows how they have the cheek to act like everything is OK), this place is dreadful. My boyfriend from Taiwan says it is the worst hotel he has ever stayed at. I have only stayed at one worse and it was in rural China.Dirty, cramped, uncomfortable. There is quite clearly a gap in the market for good value budget accommodation in Edinburgh. Until this is filled I fear others will choose this cheap option. My advice is spend more on you credit card rather than ruin you holiday.

quiet and clean..Great value for me!Staff are very warm and welcoming, I got a great deal on what i thought was a single room,They gave me a double en-suite for the same price. Breakfast was great, choice of fresh fruit and cereal and freshly made toast and tea..In the evening take a walk across the links for a curry at "Suruchi Too" on Constituion street... On street parking is plentiful and there is a bus stop just at the front of the hotel too..

This is ecomony all the way with no luxury.Family room we booked, wall paper hanging off wall, shower barely worked, dirty carpets. The upside the view over the park was nice and the staff in the hotel very pleasent and helpful.

Be WarnedThe sign outside states Economy with Luxury. Half right, Although the prices are low it does not excuse the rooms. Had the so called family room number 10. 1 double 3 single beds Television in room had no plug on so I asked for another this arrived with no batteries in remote and a broken ariel. This TV did not work and the wire to set was joined wih a bare connector. single beds would have been a nightmare if slept on they were so noisey. Carpets on floor were filthy. Toilet paper had to be put in bin not toilet. How it ever passed the fire inspection heavens nows. Good part it is close to city centre bus stops outside and the bed linen was clean.

A Tired HotelOn the positive side the hotel had a good location and there was always plenty of hot water but it was the cumulative effect of all the little things that made for a tired hotel experience, like only one towel and that was threadbare, not having a glass in the room to clean your teeth, window sash cord broken so window could not be closed or opened, radiator not operational in room, no shower gel etc. only a small bar of soap provided.

Value for money accommodation close to bus route and opposite a parkMy husband and I wanted to visit Edinburgh but did not want to stay right in the city centre. Merith House Hotel is close to the city centre but it also offer a sense of relaxation as it is located opposite a park. We parked our hired vehicle for the two days that we stayed there and used public transport as the bus stop is right in front of the hotel and it was cheap and convenient. The rooms are basic and not fancy but clean and excellent value for money. It had coffee making facilities, enough space and an ensuite bathroom. During our 16 day stay in the UK this was the most affordable accommodation. The breakfast is basic and not English but it was fresh and more than enough.

Good value for priceRoom was OK, mattrass worn on one sideBreakfast was OK but not exceptional, BUT fresh fruit which is a great plus!I missed eggs for breakfast.Bus stops in front of hotel and you can park your car on the street in front of the hotel. Never had a problem finding a space.

Luxury with Economy?Luxury with Economy says the sign outside...but it was difficult to find the luxury! Had trouble getting the door keys to work. A bit shocked to see the size of the room...a double bed squeezed into a single space. We had to take it in turns to move around and unpack! Very clean and quiet room (7 second floor) at the back. Towels would have benefitted from being conditioned with softener. Staff were very obliging and friendly. Decor was tired but the decorator was hard at work, so things can only improve. 3% credit card surcharge!

Owners spoke hardly english and and service from their side only includes to take your credit card as soon as possible to charge you before you have even seen the room. The building could actually be quite nice, but most rooms were under construction during our stay. The rooms are decorated terrible and cheap and smelled intensely of detergents. The location of the hotel is also not really great, you need a car or public transport to get to the centre of Edinburgh. Breakfast is supposed to be continental, basically just juice, white toast and cheap marmelade. The person making the breakfast was actually the only one very friendly.

A bit disappointing!!!I had booked a double room for 2 at Merith Hotel but I ended up travelling alone, which was for the best really, because the room was so small that for one person to be moving around the other one would have to be lying in bed. Even though the room was quite cheap there wasn’t that much value for money there considering the quality of the facilities.

Very nice stay, excelent valueStaff were very friendly, gave us advice on travelling around. Room was not huge but had everything you need, bed comfortable, tea and coffee maing facility, excellent shower. All very cleanWalls were a bit thin, you could hear the neighbours or their tv occasionaly, but there was no excessive noise at any pointNever made it for the continental breakfast, stopping it at 8:30 was a bit early for my likingOverall very satisfied

Converted Edwardian Townhouse? Value For money Ideal for short staysHotel overlooks the Lynks where there is ample free parking along the road. Reception was unmaned on arrival but has ctv and someone appeared reasonably quick. Room was small but ok, (2 rooms converted from one larger one) floor boards made you feel drunk, but albiet the decor was slightly tired the room was clean and tidy, plenty of information about the surrounding area, and pleanty of tea/coffee available. Wardrobe was highly impractible if you were staying for some time, but as we were staying just one night it was ok. Continental breakfast was ok, plenty of toast offered and everyting was fresh.

Small RoomsRooms are small, not much sound proofing. I would stay again as I found it good value. Staff and owner seem very polite and helpful. Clean bedding and shower. TV was a let down.

Would not stay againThe room itself was absolutely tiny, I could not walk past the bed without bending to avoid knocking a picture off the wall. The curtains and bed lined are badly needing updating, the tv reception allowed only one channel. The toilet and shower area appeared unkempt. No hot water in the taps except in the morning. We did not attempt the breakfast due to the overall impression of being rather rundown and uncared for. The hotel staff did appear pleasant although we only saw briefly at checkin and on departing. We were extremely dissapointed in our room and felt our money merited a higher standard of room. Would not revisit under any circumstances.

Luxury with economyThis hotel is exactly what it claims to be - a cheap way of staying at a decent hotel. Everything was as expected and fine enough, given the price. The service was excellent, as was the breakfast. The room was quiet and functional, with a lovely view of the park opposite, and also extremely clean. I would definitely stay here again. Considering the categories below (What is this accommodation suitable for) I would say it's not really suitable for any of the categories (excpet perhaps the 'group of friends')... but it's an excellent place to stay for one or two nights while in Edinburgh on business.
