Mercure CardiffI was very impressed with the bathroom, clean and smart. Despite being situated near very busy roads, the bedroom was very quiet and pleasant. I would recommend a stay.

Good value for money hotelWell situated, comfortable hotel. Spacious and clean room. Male receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. The female receptionist was surly, unhelpful and seemed not to enjoy her job. They have free internet, but only a few cables so you are not guaranteed internet access. Overall a very good stay. The price was very good value for money.

Not a good place in a heatwaveHotel room large and clean, but extremely hot and stuffy. Air conditioning barely operating and non-opening windows made room unbearable on hottest day /night of year. Hospitality tray had only two tea bags, the rest coffee (which I don't drink), no fridge for cool drinks.Bathroom had only a shower cubicle although it was clean, and there were only two end of toilet rolls which meant we had to get extra. Continental breakfast buffet only which was quite basic and one member of staff seemed to be manning the reception and looking after breakfast, so poor level of service.

quick stopwe stayed at the Mercure the Lodge for just one night but were very impressed with everything. It was well located - only a short taxi ride, costing about £3, from the city centre. It's not as well located as other hotels but then those hotels are double the price!! the satff were accommodating, helpful and friendly! there was nothing negative i could say about the Mercure hotel and will definitely be recommending it to others! if you're undecided as to where to stay then stay here.

Tidy hotel, shame about the Air-Con problem!!Stayed in the hotel as it was within walking distance of the city centre, and had stayed in a Mercure hotel previously. On arrival, easy check-in, but found that the room only had a shower, not a bath as advertised, and windows didn't open. this may not have been a problem if the air-con had been working but, apparently, it's a common fault there. As a result, the ambient temp within the room was on average 29-30 degrees. It was colder outside. Spoke to reception the following morning and, although apologetic, there wasn't anything they could do as the engineer had been called and there wasn't any other room empty in the hotel to transfer to, plus the air-con for the whole hotel was broken. On check-out I spoke to the duty manager, who was very helpful again and offered a discount which, although a nice gesture, didn;t make up for the fact that I could have driven home after the show the previous night and the only reason we stayede was because my wife was out in Cardiff the following day and it was easier for her to get ready. This proved difficult in temps upwards of 30 degrees!!!!!! Great hotel, easy to get to, nice staff, shame about the main problem and needs to get it sorted if it's going to thrive.

Nice but HOTNice hotel but there was no handset for the TV. They did find one so customer service good but it should have been there originally. Apparently they are eminently nickable. Air conditioning was not working. It was very hot and the windows didn't open. I asked at reception again and apparently they are waiting for a part. It was not clear if it was just my room or the hotel. I was not offered another room

Tropical CardiffThe abiding memories of our stay will be the intolerable temperature in the rooms and the charm and attentiveness of the duty manager. The windows do not open and the air conditioning system was incapable of reducing the temperature below 28C during our whole stay, including overnight, when the outside temperature never rose above 24C in early afternoon. It was clear from the response of the staff to our complaint that this was something over which they had no control. The rooms and shower rooms are spacious and reasonably well equipped for a hotel in this class - the shower is outstanding. Continental breakfast was adequate for the price; sandwiches are available (but not room service) most of the time and the bar is available at the hours you would expect. Although the accommodation is not specifically for the disabled, everything is accessible on the level or by passsenger lift, room doors are wide and the shower has a large, low lipped tray. The hotel is slightly \"out of town\" and, although only a ten minute walk from the edge of the centre, pedestrian access was clearly an afterthought.

Good for the PriceStay here a fair bit for work. The rooms are clean and large. Very good shower. Certainly a step up from a Travelodge or similar, at a very good price.

Ace!We had an excellent stay at this hotel. It is wonderfully positioned between both the city and the bay. The rooms are great, the power showers are fab!! We paid for breakfast in the morning which at £5 wasn't too bad and it was a good continental breakfast. Something other than tea or coffee (fruit tea or hot chocolate) and more shampoo/conditioner etc. would be good in the rooms and a wider selection at breakfast (some slices of ham/different cheeses/boiled eggs etc.) would be well appreciated. However, on the whole, this was an excellent place to stay and I would definitely recommend it.

cleanlinessThis was my 10th stay at this hotel and I have noticed a marked deterioration in cleanliness. Also, no remote control for TV. Having said all that, the staff are brilliant and it is certainly good value for the money.

the room was very clean and comfortable, i was particularly impressed by the modern bathroom. the location was good as we were only a 10-15min walk from the city centre. however, my only criticism was the price of the room. we were visiting cardiff for a big event in the millenium stadium and the hotel thought that it was appropriate to double the price of the room. the room was highly overpriced at £150 for 1 night (not including breakfast!!). due to this, i wouldn't stay at this hotel again as i only ever visit cardiff for concerts or matches in the stadium.

Hotel was lovely, very clean & light. The room was very spacious with two double beds and the bathroom was lovely. Although this location is a bit out of town it is only about 20 mins walk to the waterfront and the town so if you don't mind walking it is no issue. The staff were helpful and polite and overall it was a pleasant experience. We would definately stay again.

Reasonable accommodation for short stayDespite the air-con not working correctly, the stay was comfortable, and all other facilties were adequate. The staff were courteous and accommodating and provided an electric fan to compensate for the faulty air-con.

Other reviewers certainly not joking about location!!Okay, location is not fab. It is next to a car dealership and a flyover but, actually, this turned out to be a plus after a hellish 6 hour drive to Cardiff, which was made even better when the satnav played up and we were relying on a crappy google map. We spotted the hotel with ease as we sped past it on the flyover but managed to get back to it with no trouble. Our view was a corrogated metal wall 20 feet or so away and nothing else (not kidding here either). But, the welcome was warm and friendly, the room was relatively clean (a little tatty) and the bathroom was nice. The room did prove to be suprisingley quiet as well, although the aircon was not working and after one rather sticky night, we were provided with a fan on moaning about it which did work rather well. We had to dodge traffic to get anyway on foot but location wise, we were 15 mins walk from city centre and about 20 mins walk from Mermaid Quay and the Millenium Centre at Cardiff Bay (which i would recommend going to via Atlantic Wharf - lovely peaceful walk by water) so that was fine. Overall, i would read the reviews as the place is not perfect but, apart from the inevitable hike up in price due to Take That playing there (£60 for monday night, £150 for tuesday night) which was the same everywhere, it was pretty good value for money. Staff friendly and helpful.
