Description:
Located in the town centre, it is close to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare's Birthplace and other attractions. Shakespeare's birthplace, Warwick Castle, Heritage Motor Museum, Broadway Halls, Croft New Place, Mary Arden's House, Blenheim Palace and Coventry Cathedral. The Tudor facade and original stone floors in the hotel's reception suggest a style of wealthy living pre-dating the Bard himself. Over the years the Shakespeare has been a firm favourite with politicians, diplomats, business people and scholars alike. Subtle touches like open fires in the lounge during the winter months and a traditional menu in the restaurant help create a wonderfully peaceful and friendly ambience. The Othello's Bar Brasserie offers a contemporary style atmosphere with a large selection of menu options from morning coffee, brunch, drinks and nibbles, there is something for everyone. The Othellos Bar Brasserie has a fantastic dinner menu with an AA Rosette. The Quill Cocktail Bar offers pre- and after-dinner drinks and the Lounge offers morning coffee and afternoon tea. Car parking is available on site at a cost of £10.00 per day, however these facilities are limited and subject to availability.

the bed was horrendously uncomfortable. It was very soggy. We both had backache for 2 or 3 days afterwards. I would not reccommend it.

Mecure Shakespeare HotelThe outside of the hotel has been well maintained and the Tudor style has been maintained throughout the hotel. I think this hotel is over-priced for the size of the room and the “mod-cons” within (although that may just be the room we stayed in and it was a bank holiday…). Most suited if you are feeling flush or want to treat yourself and stay in a building with historical significance.

Greta location, poor quality of roomGenerally we thought the Mecure Shakespeare was OK. Location perfect and staff attentative. But we paid nearly £100 for a room which had peeling wallpaper, tears in the carpet and grubby walls. This place really needs some TLC!

ReviewGreat location in centre of Stratford. has own car park although a little hard to find and another £10 per night. Hotel looks like something from the 16th century (it probably is!) and has quirky interior albeit with some modern touches. Lots of uneven floors. Bedrooms OK if a little cramped and obvioulsy layout compromised by original design and build. Interesting though and well worth considering.

Stay at the Shakespeare StartfordPleasant and friendly service in a hotel with character in a great position in the centre of Stratford and good parking facilities. The room was adequate but a bit small.

Double room? Ah, it'll do!Firstly, it's worth stating that both myself and my girlfriend agreed that we would definately return to the Shakespeare. It's a lovely hotel, packed full of character and the staff were incredibly friendly and polite. I booked this place based upon overall good reviews on this site, having put a decent amount of effort into researching rooms, rates and locations. The savings I made through this site, made the Mercure an excellent option at short notice over a Bank Holiday weekend. My only real complaint would be that the "double" room we booked was actually a twin with the 2 beds pushed together. Whilst this did little to diminish the overall experience, I would recommend that anyone who books with the Shakespeare gets confirmation that they are getting the accomodation that they require. Over a busy weekend, the hotel are unlikely to have an alternative room available, so you may have to live with what you get.Despite this one gripe, I would again reiterate that the hotel is well worth a visit. It's very convenient for the RSC and Stratford town Centre, the room service food (inc breakfast) is tasty and the wine excellent. Additionally, the bar staff downstairs are attentive and make an excellent G & T, if that's of any interest! Overall, if you can't afford to, or indeed don't wish to, shell out £300 per night on a somewhere really top end, this is an highly recommended, reasonably priced option. Get a good a deal on your room and enjoy!

Only stayed for a night, but hotel was very clean and comfortable. Room wasn't huge, but big enough. Good value for money and good service. Only minus points was I was close to the lift which was noisy, the tv reception was dreadful and was a bit annoyed at housekeeping knocking on my door in the morning. Was a much better standard though than when i stayed 2 years ago.

Hotel Mercure, Stratford upon Avon.Strangely, almost all electrical appliances in the room, from the trouser press to the electric kettle, were way past the PAT testing retest date. (It may be a small point - everything worked - but it shows lack of attention to detail). Also, maybe it's just me, but the fire emergency instructions of "if you can't get down the stairs, wait in your rooms for further instructions" didn't fill me with confidence. Otherwise a nice hotel, well situated for Stratford centre, and with friendly staff.

car parking Having stayed at this hotel a year ago i was very surprised to find a charge for the hotel carpark of ten pound. Not only do i think this alot of money for 24 hrs but especially when it was actually the hotels carpark. On complaining that i was not told at check in they reduced it to 5.I have asked it be noted to inform guests at check in in future.I still feel very bothered by it and will b contacting the hotel management.

Dark, dingy but over all nice break The hotel was slightly dark and dingy and our room was wonky and pokey. But it is an old building, the maids also did wlak into our room in the morning at 10am which was not expected and I found quite embarrassing. The breakfast was all we ate at the hotel and this was lovely and we had it in the room, the TV remote did not work well at all and the bed was not very comfy but was a nice break for us but we would not go again.

Value for money was good becuase of late room deal. True cost would NOT have been value for money despite the location of the hotel. Service was slow but staff very friendly and accommodating. No tea in team making facilities in room and no milk. Bath water only ran at extremely slow trickle although it was hot and if you wanted a shower it was hot.Would stay again but only at late room rate.

WE found the bedding inadequate. We woke up several times during the night cold as the bedding had slipped to the floor. Duvets would have been better and warmer. This was due to the type of bedding and the fact that the one blanket was between two sheets and two others were too small to cover the bed.

The Shakespeare hotel was perfect! The location was ideal as the hotel is based in the centre of town. The room was excellent with good facilities (hot water and shower pressure (so often appallling in hotels) was superb). The staff were polite, helpful and knowledgable. On the night that we stayed, there was a private late-function on at the hotel that was well publicised. However, our room was based well away from the function room so we were not disturbed by noise or other guests. I would certainly stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to anyone.

the room itself was a little small and considering it should have cost more than we paid ( as it was a special pay in advance offer) i think i would have been disappointed if we had paid the higher price.the hotel room was very clean but in the corridor we passed the same tray full of left over food and empty champagne bottles at least four times during our stay and i am not even sure it had been removed by the time we left. i would not return to this hotel although it is nicely situated if you are planning a short trip to stratford and is a comfortable and cosy place to stay.

Potentially a great hotel, the comfy sofa area was welcoming. What needs attention is the front desk service in all areas. Abrupt and unfriendly service. Thank goodness for the sofas to make up for their people skills.Breakfast pricey at £13.95 even for a minor ! Would not recommend the breakfast was not worth the money.Another thing £10.00 for the car park. Not impressed with that. On the whole though, the hotel is potentially fab, with a great location. Just needs attention to detail.

Good location, good facilities and a functioning bar. But such a small room that we couldn't get a cupboard (with the kettle in) open as the door was wedged against the bed.Staff in restaurant need to gain a customer perspective to their service, rather than ignore them to complete 'tasks'.

Lovely hotel, lovely setting, full of history. Staff were friendly and efficient.

A lovely room in a lovely hotel, perfect for a night away after the theatre. The staff were helpful and friendly although we were diappointed that we could not dine on site - I guess the pre-theatre dinner was very popular.
