Good but not one for a familyStayed here as part of a stag party - perfect location. Excellent front desk staff. Check in was quick and efficient and all 4 booked rooms as requested. Check in staff even gave us a map and marked on local points of interest! Room is fairly basically furnished but clean and bed was comfortable. Due to the surrounding location, I wouldn't recommend to a family with young children but would for groups of friends or similar.

Good breakfast. Short way to go to the Castle and Old town

My visit in July 09The reception and housekeeping staff were very helpful. The corridors were very dull and uninspiring and the room carpets were loosely taped in places but this will not detract from a pleasant stay. Room cost was fair and the hotel was located close to all the attractions.

This hotel was in a good setting for our trip to the castle. I booked for several of my friends and they were happy with the accomodation. the prices in the bar were reasonable for a hotel the hotel is in need of some refurbishment but the staff were very helpful and polite. We asked for a change of room as the first one was small this was done very quickly.Although breakfast was not included in the price it was only £8 which for a hotel is cheap. I would stay at this hotel again as it seemed to be an ideal location .

Ideal location for Edinburgh castle concertWe stayed at the Mercure Point Hotel whilst going to see a concert at Edinburgh Castle. Ideal location for doing a pub crawl on route to the Castle, which was about a 15 minute walk. We spent very little time in the hotel however on arrival staff at reception were very pleasant and helpfull. Lighting in the corridors were a bit garish and we felt like we were in Alien Wars but lets face it you dont spend your time in the corridors anyway! Rooms were average, very hot when we returned at night and although the windows had restricted opening they done the trick. The only downside to the room was ours did smell a bit musty and the bathroom, although clean could have done with a refurb. Parking off site is a 5 min walk and if you get your ticket validated at the hotel you get a £5 discount for 24 hrs. All in all I think it was good value for money.

One night in EdinburghThe only downside for me was that the room was air conditioned only, ie you couldn't open a window. However, I did sleep a lot better than I thought I would. Hotel corridors are kind of funky.

Very noisy at night with clubs downstairs and alleysService of staff - good, food - good, room size and cleanliness - very good but it is extremely noisy with the clubs downstairs unitl 04h00 in the mornings... I could not sleep at all and thus our following day was ruined due to tiredness - not much of holiday experience if you are tired.

Noisy and above clubLovely hotel and breakfast good but big but: they have an extremely noisy club downstairs and no matter what floor or corner you stay on, you cannot sleep until 04h00 in the mornings..... I think people need to take this in consideration when they book. It is central, the food good, rooms spacious and staff extremely friendly and helpful apart from noise.

All round, very goodThe hotel in general is spacious, trendy, in a great location for shopping and partying, and really looks the part. The whole building is, however very warm, especially in the rooms as there where no opening windows (in our room anyway) and the heated towel rail in the bathroom couldnt be turned off. The rooms are very spacious with a sofa and the bed was great. We didnt try the food, however spend plenty of time in the trendy and reasonably priced bar.Main downfalls unique to our trip - Fire alarm going off at 4am, bathroom light stopped working and had to be replaced, and a bottle of aftershave went missing.

Advertised as having air conditioning but was not available in our room

Adequate but disappointingI booked this hotel on the internet and thought I had a good hotel which appeared to be value for money and was reassured by the fact that it was awarded the Edinburgh Hotel of the Year 2008 (Hotel Review -Scotland) and quoted as one of the finest 3-star hotels in Edinburgh. When I arrived it looked great and indeed the reception and G/F seemed to meet this standard. Sadly my room was disappointing, carpet needed a good clean and vacuum, room was sparse and needed several repairs, bed was old and uncomfortable. My first floor room had a large picture window with no light weight curtaining to stop onlookers - not great when opposite the sex shop so had to close the main curtains the whole time.

No A/C in room we had to ask for fan and was still winter bed linen in June.

In dire need of refurbishmentWithout doubt the least attractive / welcoming / comfortable hotel I have stayed ain for a long time. Minimalist in the extreme, but not the pleasant Nordic way - a harsh and cold way. No curtains - just a large dark glass panel half the width of the room that slid across a window that was only 50% of the available width. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone as a pleasant place to stay.

Mid Week-Edinburgh BreakBooked this room very late in the day and got a good deal. Arrived late in the evening and received a very friendly, relaxed welcome from reception. The room had a fantastic view of the castle, although we did as for this on our arrival. The room was a decent size and the bed was very big and comfy even though it was two singles pushed together (this seems to be standard procedure in a lot of hotels now). Only very slight problems with the very powerfull shower (although this is really only nit-picking). Overall, a really enjoyable break away made much better by the excellent location of the hotel, the friendliness of the staff and the incredible view from the bedroom window. Would definitley stay here again.

Mixed bagThe service was the most surprising. The lovely lady that checked us in was helpful and friendly. The staff after that deteriated, with an inefficient barman and a rather rude women on the phone when requesting help with a restuarant. The room was adequate but the shower did not work and it took complaining on the night and the following morning before they sent someone up to have a look at it.

Interior Designer apparently on drugs - downers - cos i thought i'd gone to hell ...Staff were great - helpful, nothing too much bother and redeemed the stay somewhat - they are defo the hotel owners' greatest asset as the hotel was dreary, the decor hideous, no natural light in corridors, smeared glass and thick dust in the bedroom and furniture that must have been got for a song from an auction house and then scuffed and forgotten about. Had I booked The George in Edinburgh two days earlier, a room there would have cost just £34 per night more than this!!!! I wouldn't dream of staying again, despite the very good staff.

Mercure Point HotelI have stayed at the Mecure Point previously and was so impressed I stayed again, and again no complaints, as per my previous review: This was a great hotel to stay in, modern, stylish, clean and only a few minutes walk to most sites and attractions, the staff were very helpful and accommodating, would stay here again for sure.A few reviews have mentioned the hotel being worn/tired and problems with the shower, but I saw no evidence of this and it isn't my experience of the hotel, when I'm next in Edinburgh I will again check availability at the Mecure Point first.
