HousekeepingWhen I was checked in they gave me a room that had no working lights in the bathroom. My new room had dirty mugs and spoons on the tea tray and no normal tea. The staff were concerned but I had driven 200+ miles in the rain and this was not what I wanted. In the morning when I checked out the mail receptionist kept calling me 'mate' until I pointed out I wasn't his mate and that I was a customer. He seem non-plussed. He was also dressed for a night out rather than a hotyel receptionist. His uniform tie was on the outside of his collar and the not was halfway down his shirt. He was scruffy and first impressions would not be good with this person. Of course this is the managers fault not his. I will be visiting this area a number of times in the near future on business but will stay elsewhere even though I am an ACCOR card holder! Very poor.

GreatstayNothing was too much trouble for the staff, all had a friendly smile. Maybe some biscuits on the tea and coffee tray would be appreciated

norton grangehaving booked through late rooms we thought we had found ourselves a really good deal,we got the room rate at half the normal price,so we were looking forward to attending our family wedding. Our room was really tiny, stuck in a back kind of anex/corridor that was next to some kind of boiler cupboard which was about 100 degrees. Our sliding wardrobe doors, well one of them was only attatched the other was just lent against the other,(total health and safety risk), the main light in the bedroom did not work. I actually booked 2 rooms the other was for my parents we paid exactly the same amount and they were checked into an excecutive room.. how can you justify the differences in the rooms for the same money, spoiled our stay completly.

There was a wedding when we arrived which meant everything was a little hectic!! On entering our room we both thought a little small for an executive suite but nicely decorated. Some of the coridors on the ifrst floor stank of urine and must which was a little off putting as well.Stear clear of the food on the bar menu - for two sandwiches a handful of crisps a shandy and a coke it cost a whopping £20!! Your better off getting a sandwich from the Tesco down the road!Breakfast was dissapointing - in the end we sat down for ten minutes without a clue of the breakfast protocol (do we order, how do we order?) and decided to leave, get a refund and go to mcdonalds!!

Great expectations - ultimately unfulfilledRoom was well furnished, and comfortable, but bed was quite small for a hotel double, and was uncomfortable wth a large dip in the middle. There was no hot water at all in the morning, and when we complained they seemed surprised, although we understand from other guests that they too had a similar problem. Our biggest disappointment was around the breakfast service and quality of food. Having been advised that breakfast was served until 10.00 our party decided on a late, relaxing affair, converging at 09.30. There were no tables made up and ready, and new ones had to be carried through to an ante room, and hastily, and poorly laid. After 30 minutes we finally were seated. There was very little food available on the buffet, and the quality of the cooked breakfast was extremely poor, with congealed baked beans, solid eggs and weak tea being amongst the disappointments. There appeared to be no shortage of staff, but there was seemingly no direction nor management evident. Our final disappointment was the difficulty we had in leaving the car park, given that there was no answer on the intercom for the gate to be released. We felt that this type of security seemed a little 'over-kill'.This hotel has many of the ingredients required to make a fantastic break, and with some direction/management we think it could be something pretty special - but it's not there yet!

We had a very relaxing much needed break. We were very pleased with the location and facilites available. Value for money was excellent. We will be returning, and for a longer break next time. Exellent customer service especially at check in. I travel all over Europe and stay in many hotels, very pleased with our choice of the Mercure Norton Grange Spa Hotel :)

Weekend to Manchesteri found the hotel very clean and comfertable. i was also easy to get to with the car. the only problem we had was on the 1st night there was a wedding in the Hopwood Suite and as we were on the ground floor and right across from the hall, it was very noisy. i understand it was a wedding but as we werent part of it i thought we should have got a room further away. we were room only so had to pay extra for breakfast, i thought £8.50 each for breakfast was quite expensive but overall good weekend very clean, staff were very helpful too and i would reccomend it to a friend.

Excellent valueI got a late rooms booking so the rate I paid was very good for the quality of hotel.Access to the spa was included which was good, breakfast would have been expensive if it wasn't for the deal they had at the time. Can recommend the wild mushroom and dolcelatta risotto.

Don't stay at the weekend otherwise lovely! This is a lovely hotel and the staff are incredibly nice and very quick to correct any problems. Two things really let it down - firstly, there is a distinctly cheapskate attitude to minor details eg cheap white sliced bread - no brown offered, no condiments with meals, one sachet of tea and coffee accompanying the kettle (!!!) , no drinking water in the rooms, scanty toiletries which are not replenished when you've used them - in a hotel of this quality and presentation, you do expect more. We requested a travel cot three times prior to booking - via the late rooms site, then by direct email and also by telephone not having had an email reply. When we arrived - no cot! The sweet and professional girl on reception had it sorted within ten minutes and we did receive an email reply from her colleague asking when we needed the cot - 2 days after we checked out! The big problem was the noise - Saturday night, baby asleep - just settling down to order room service and watch TV - BOOM! - a huge cacaphony form the Function room which was a considerable distance from our room. Calls to reception told us - at different times - that it was being turned down now....at midnight.....at 1am. Our 18 month old has slept through storms, builders, parties and carol singers - this actually woke her up and frightened her so that we had three hours trying to soothe her. Moral - avoid the weekends!

Hotel had been booked for the wrong day - which wasn't noticed until a few weeks later. but the hotel were really good and re-booked my room. Good Gym facilities and the rooms were really spacious and clean.I visited during an early spring month, but i think that it would be a nice place to stay ar during the summer. Easy enough access to Manchester.

Overnight stayA very pleasant hotel in a convenient area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean. The bedroom was cold, though, and did not heat up till the middle of the night. Also, the shower (in a spacious bathroom) was too cold to stand under.Breakfast was a disappointing experience. I was not offered a menu and just asked for eggs. Having waited a quarter of an hour to place my order, I waited another 30 minutes for two eggs to arrive.

Cock up after cock upWe arrived very late, as we had advised both in the free text section of the booking form, and also my wife advised them in person the night before our stay. We had got married on the day, and our family(s) were staying there. When we arrived, there was 1 person covering both check in, reception, and the bar, and we were told (contrary to what it states in the rooms) that there was no room service as the chef had gone home. When we came to check out the next day, they had lost our Late Rooms reservation price of £65 for the room, and tried to charge us £100. We were told they would ring us later, but didn't.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately laterooms does not advise of very limited leisure hours for under 18s , only 3.30-5.00pm during week , very disappointed 2yr old who had been promised swimming after 4 hour car journey !! when we arrived at 4.45pm to check in.
