For short stays in a reasonably priced Hotel, I can recommend the Mercure Hotel

Disaapointed there was no air conditioning in rooms, and no exhaust fans in bathroom. Found staff very friendly & co-operative, especially Bianca (front desk) and David (breakfast buffet).

We enjoyed our stay at Mercure Hotel Hobart. It is within walking distance of the CBD, Salamanca Markets, car hire companies and even the waterfront precinct. The room was clean and well appointed. The front desk staff and room service staff we encountered were always cheerful and helpful. Room service was prompt. Did not enjoy dining in the restaurant and service in the restaurant not so good. Would appreciate skim milk in the restaurant for breakfast and fried eggs - not everyone likes scrambled or poached eggs. Fried eggs were available through room service so why not in the restaurant? Undercover car parking was a little tight.

I was pleasantly surprised when I was upgraded to a privilege room! Very helpful and service- oriented staff who went out of their way to make my stay in the hotel a memorable one.

This is NOT a 4 star hotel. The entire facility is in dire need of a serious upgrade, cleaning & repairs. The carpets were worn out & dirty in the lobby, as well as in our room. The caulking on the tub was black in places with mildew & some of the light bulbs in our room were burnt out. Our room also had a bad odor in it, something like you might encounter in a dirty public toilet. We asked at the front desk to be moved to another room but were told none were available during our first 2 nights. Finally, on our 3rd & final night at the hotel we got a different room. It smelled a bit better but, like the other room, was not well maintained or cleaned. During my 3 weeks of travel through out Australia this was (by far) the worst hotel I stayed in. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Overall, the hotel is very nice, however as the hotel is situated very close to the road it is extremely noisy every night which made it difficult to sleep. The buffet breakfast was enjoyable.

Ideal for picking up a hired car as surrounded by the main agents. Shame the hotel was so bland and tired.
