The hotel location is great. The room was comfortable and clean. The checking-in procedure was fine but the checking out was less than desirable.

The security and reception - lobby - restaurant. The room needs to be ugraded. Overall it was ok for the money, the only problem is if your room is on the Casino side, then you get all the noises of patron leaving the casino in the middle of the night.

Excellent Hotel to stay at - good location not that far from the colonial zone - excellent service the staff go out of there way to assist you - the only problem I had was at night its not that safe to walk - but the security at the hotel advise you that anyway - the food at the restaurant could have been a little better - I had pasta one night which was under cooked and at the breakfast the eggs not so good - but apart from that excellent and would recommend people staying here

I stayed there for a night and it was ok. I came back to Santo Domingo a week later and am staying somewhere else though. The location is awesome! It's not beachfront as there is no beach in Santo Domingo, but you will be right by the old Colonial City, lot's of ladies, lot's of casinos, etc. Very secure, you will not worry about your safety. The gym is very modern and nice. The pool is on the 3rd floor, outdoor so you can catch a few rays whihc is nice. The restaurant was far too expensive for what I was looking for (I just wanted a bite to eat, not a gourmet experience every time out) me so I did not eat there. The bar in the lobby charged 6x the going rate for a beer which was flat out gouging. Free internet in the lobby, but not in the rooms. Bring your own beers if you want a beer while using the internet, it's not against the rules and it'll save you a bundle A free continetal breakfast would have been nice.

I had my thoughts regarding hotels in the malecon area since I know Santo Domingo very well, all my thoughts were confirmed when I stayed at the Melia. It was simply a nightmare! I just can say if you like a quiet and safe place this is not the place to go. I can sleep even in a train station and it was 5 am when I was able to fall asleep. The standard room is awful, small and stuffy. The linens are old, worn out and felt disgusting. This was the noisiest hotel I had ever stayed in (not even NYC). Moreover the Malecon is not a safe area in Santo Domingo. If you look for quiet, safety and great service I would recommend "Occidental Embajador" it is OLD but the crowd is very different and it's located in a very exclusive area in the city and the staffs are respectful and professionals. In resume Melia the worst ever.

The lobby atmosphere and location of the hotel. The casino, the water leaking from the ceiling of the bathroom, they fixed it within 5 minutes of telling them about it. Great location and friendly staff. Our bathroom ceiling had a water leak and it was taken care of with no problems within 5 minutes of calling, I will stay there again.

I am a single woman who traveled alone in search of a beach within walking distance so I could be in the sun all day and back to my room. There is no beach in Santo Domingo. Go to Boca Chica and look for hotels there. The food was lack luster and not worth the money.There were no other restaurants near this hotel that was safe to get to after sundown. The pool is nice, but alot of children stay at this hotel. I was bored most of my trip. There are guides right outside the hotel that offered tours of downtown Santo Domingo. I took one, but got conned out of 200 dollars in the marketplace buying gifts. Beware of the fast talking, gesturing sales people. **TIP- the ATM's in the hotel and at the adjacent hotel, Jaragua, only give you about 30 USD at a time, my guess is because of the casino's. ***TIP-Breakfast IS NOT included at this hotel. It is all you can eat, for 13 USD.

This was a good location for an overnight stay before joining our cruise, though maybe when you take into account the $45 taxi fare from the airport it may have been cheaper to stay at a hotel with a shuttle service. The breakfast was more of a 3* quality, and I would not want to have it more than once.

I stay at this hotel with my friends, the staff was very friendly, specially the guys at the pool, there is a nice restaurant about 5 minutes from the hotel. everything we want it was at a driving distance( clubs, restaurants, beach), we love this hotel and are looking foward to our next vacation to stay here.

I have been staying at a particular hotel here in Santo Domingo over the past 4 years that is just down the road from the Melia. I decided to try the Melia for the first time and was very very pleased with the quality of everything and the connecting casino. All was better and less expensive than the hotel down the street.

It was all nice a great value. They shut the street on Sunday. This is an excellent hotel at any price but if you want a beach this is the wrong hotel it is close to shopping across the street from the ocean (no beaches though) I did not go to the casino but it is right there it is built on a Grand scale and beautifully laid out.

Family friendly and very secure because they really know the guests and check you if you're not a registered hotel guest. Could be better priced had they given free breakfast with the price of the room. The food quality was not bad but a bit overpriced. Beds by the pool side were great but the pool itself needs a little tile and paint work. Pina colada was the best I've tasted so far. Staff are generally friendly. They live by their promise to attend to guest requests within 15 minutes! See for yourself when you order food through room service. Location can be suitable for those who want to have the peace a quiet. Plaza Colonial is just a walking distance (turn left upon exiting the hotel). Good fancy restaurants nearby (turn right upon exiting hotel) plus a small but clean cinema. The bay view is wonderful but the baywalk itself needs a little bit of cleaning up. Room was clean and spacious but pillows and bed quality could be made better. We've compared this with another hotel nearby and this is a notch lower in quality but a notch higher in price.

The entire staff was very helpful and friendly. Few eating options were close by. We really enjoyed our stay at the Melia. All of the staff that we encountered was very nice and helpful. If we were in Santo Domingo again, this is where we would stay.

For the money you spend, its worth it,.. not over priced,.. very professional staff, they really cater to there guests,.. I stayed at this hotel & honestly,.... there was no hot water in the room,.. I called the front desk,.. they took care of it ,.. in 5 min,.. very sweet attitudes from the staff... don't expect gormet food,.. the food is decent,.. yet I found it very salty, breakfast was good....They really try....

Although well-worn and not quite spotless, the Melia Santo Domingo is nice by Latin America standards. Service was consistently attentive (example, customers are greeted upon check in with a refreshing fruit juice), on property restaurant is adequate and reasonably priced by hotel standards with plenty of other dining options within walking distance or short cab ride. Location is ideal, right on the Malecon and near both old and new parts of the city.

This was my second stay at the hotel and I was not disappointed this trip. With a very warm and courteous staff, one feels comfortable "at home" staying at the Melia. I would also recommend it to friends who are traveling to Santo Domingo. It's convenience to the Conde is great too....

Location and parking on site at no additional cost. The costs of food and drinks were high. The location is excellent for visiting the colonial city and they maintain the building and grounds in excellent condition.
