The staff was the friendliest and nicest at any hotel I have ever been to. The food was excellent. Pool too cold to enjoy. Ocean was warmer. Have traveled to numerous beach locations in Carribean, Hawaii, and Mexico. I found this to be one of the nicest we have stayed in. The food was fabulous as were the grounds.

We went to Punta Cana for my sister's wedding. She paid for a wedding package in advance months before the wedding. However, upon arrival, Melia needed *more for a reception that was paid for in advance. So right from the start we knew the hotel was full of crap. Needless to say my parents paid the money because lots of family were already there. The food at the reception sucked. We're from NY so our standards are pretty high for food. Melia has about 11 restaurants but its hard to get reservations if you're not Royal service. We were able to eat the American grill, Capri, and Ma Maison. They were pretty good, not great. The breakfast buffet is standard. Lunch at the Market Place is substandard-not much seafood. Forget great dessert-the restaurants pretty much serve the same cakes from the lunch buffet at the restaurants. Coffee is greeaat!!!! NO ROOM SERVICE UNLESS YOU'RE ROYAL SERVICE so u have to go to the dominican restaurant to eat late-its gross. My sister was RS and her room was far from the beach. She had a jacuzzi and a large fridge, but thats it. My room was close to the beach and pool-bldg. 4 Tamarindo, walking distance. But golf carts are available for transport but u have to run after them to stop for u. The train stinks, it is slow and has specific stops so u still have to walk. The hotel is pretty but too large to enjoy everything. Also, the maids do not replenish towels unless u complain. Avoid timeshare vendors-it's a ripoff. The casino was good, we won and lost like all other casinos. My uncle stayed at Bavaro beach and said it was nicer and cheaper. The beach is the only perk for Melia.

we vacationed for r&r and got just that! We were definitely catered to.This our 2nd stay here so we knew what to expect. However the cleanliness of the rooms seem to have lacked a bit even though our sheets and towels were changed daily, the bathroom definitely needed more help. But overall it was a great stay

The beach was attractive. Not enough tiki huts on the beach. This hotel is good for relaxing. The whole Punta Cana area is artificial so it is not good for sight seeing or getting to see another culture. The snorkling was inferior. We wanted to relax so the hotel gave us what we needed.

The hotel is amazing, the grounds , pool, room etc... are beautiful. The people are very warm and welcoming and very helpful. You can tell how hard the staff works to make your stay amazing. The food was amazing ans so were the drinks, 7 days was not enough for the family to enjoy. Between all the resturants, shows, beach activities and childrens activities we couldn't get them all done. We are going back next year!

I have gone to this resort several times and each time I am impressed of how the Management and hotel staff are so accommodating, polite, friendly and professional. Also, the hotel management keeps that hotel looking like a first class hotel on the outside and inside. Each room is a minature suite. No bugs in the room. All air-conditioned and clean linen. The Melia are one of the resorts in Punta Cana that has wash cloths, etc. The decor is also nice. Very well kept. The water pressure is the only thing I would change, but since I have visited a lot of the resorts in Punta Cana, they are all the same. So, I guess no complaint there (smile). The Melia Caribe is one of the resorts in Punta Cana that speak very good english and other languages such as french and spanish. I could not say anything bad about the Melia Caribe. The food is great, so much variety. They prepare foods for most nationalities and accommodating to vegetarians. The restaurants at the resort are superb. I loved the Japanese Steak House and the chefs that cook are very good. I am a vegetarian and there was always something for me to eat. I took my sister with me this year and she wants to come back this October, 2009 with more of our family and friends. This resort is good for families, single people and the weddings are so beautiful, Oh, my God! A must if you want to get married at the Melia. I love Punta Cana and I have been coming here for years and there are some nice resorts here just as pleasant and superb as the Melia, but nothing beats getting good service. If it is something they do not have, they will always try to accommodate you. You will never get bored and the rooms and hotel grounds are clean and breath taking. It is an archectures dream to look at. Very serene. It is a must stay and a good price for a 5-star resort. Only 10 minutes from the airport. Kudos to the Management Team! Keep up the great job that you do at the Melia Caribe. I will be coming back in October, 2009.

Well maintained, clean, great food, friendly staff and various activities. Constant pressure from salesman selling timeshares and VIP access.

This was the worst service I have ever experienced on a vacation. No one at the front desk cares if there is a problem. I had no air conditioning in my room one night because the maid left the sliding glass door open a crack and when I called at night to tell them I had no air I had to wait until the morning for them to send someone. No information was ever given for any hotel actvities, you have to ask, and get lucky that you find someone that understands you! Don't bother getting Dominican pesos, they are useless in their own country. My whole family had the runs off and on the entire trip. Making dinner reservations is impossible if you have a large family. We traveld with a total of 10 family members and could never get reservations. We got to eat together a couple of times because we paid of the maitre' D. Forget it if you are traveling with a family member that has a disability and needs a wheel chair. They have 2 rickety old wheel chairs on the entire resort, and they tell you if if breaks you owe them *. The time share pushers annoy you after every breakfast and lunch. This place is a joke. Stay away!

I recommend this hotel like one of the best getaway for family. They have an activities for everyone since the little kids to the adults. The pool is excellent and the food very tasty and high standard quality in costumer services. keep in mind you are going to stay in the tropic so ware a lot of bug spray and have the room fumigated or not the mosquitoes will eat you alive. The souvenirs are highly price. Even when everything is inclusive, the services is so grateful that tips are very well deserve.

We loved the Melia and the staff was the best! We were amazed at how special everyone made you feel and we didn't stay in the Royal Service area. Would only recommend adding more entertainment, such as music, at an earlier time (9:00ish) for just after dinner. If you don't want to watch the show, you need something else to do.

this hotel is very large it is almost impossible to walk from one end to the other in order to get around you can take the trolley or catch a ride on a golf cart this hotel is built on 200 acres. the pool is really nice and the beach is beautiful there is alway something to do at this hotel the resturants are decorated very nice the food is excellent however, make sure you make reservations for the resturants as soon as possible they book very fast. most of the people are friendly but they move in a very slow pace so have patients, the rooms were decorated very nice but make sure you stay on top of the maids to clean your room and only drink bottle water. we are looking forward to going back in the near future. book this hotel i promise you will not regret staying at this hotel.

This trip was nice. Aside from our first room having a leak from the rain, our stay was comfortable. The rooms have a slight mildew smell which housekeeping did a good job addressing, but we had to burn a candle anyway. We got sucked into a sales presentation which lasted 2-1/2 hours! That sucked! Food was good but the best part was the beach, pool and pool bar. The bartenders were fantastic. Service was great everywhere. Very polite and friendly. Overall a very nice trip. We especially liked [...], [...] and [...].

Gorgeous beach, great pool and swim up bar, nice and helpful staff, and great food (make sure you make reservations the day before for the restaurant you want, there is so much to choose from). Overall a wonderful experience which we never wanted to end.

The Melia Caribe Tropical is an absolutely gorgeous restort. The grounds are maintained very well and are beautiful to stroll through. They offer transportation services which is good because to walk from your room to most places is a far walk. The first few days are kind of confusing because it's so big but you will eventually get your bearings. The drinks are really weak so this is not the place for you if you want to drink and party. They have a few lounges and bars which at night have a really nice atmosphere but are pretty quiet. They also have a club which was cool but empty. The breakfast buffet and lunch were not the greatest but dinner was awesome. This is a really nice place to go but there are a few things that need to be worked on. I've been to the Dominican Republic before at a different resort and here the hotel was more appealing as far as looks but drinks and food were kind of lacking. All in all, it was a great time and if you don't eat much during the day and don't care for alcohol then this place is great for you! Staff are very friendly and will take you wherever you need to be. Good spot to just relax and kick back especially with kids. Make sure you confirm your ride to the airport because our rep disappeared the day of our departure and we nearly missed our flight AND had to pay for a taxi at our own expense after we paid for a shuttle the day we arrived- not happy with our orbitz rep at the hotel!!!

During this trip we had the Royal Service which is VIP service. It was nice and we were separated from most of the other guests which was nice. Personnally, I doubt I would go back next year but it was a nice trip overall.

I've got to say that this resort is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I have been to Punta Cana 5 times and the beauty of this resort blew me away. The modern decor and grounds are breathtaking. I LOVED all the cabanas and relaxed atmosphere. The peacocks and flamingos added a special touch. The peacocks would walk around the grounds (with babies in tow) freely without fear. The service staff in the Marketplace buffet were very attentive and polite and the soft serve ice cream and pizza was very yummy. They don't make drinks very well but the Coco Loco's are good. I dropped in the disco one night and it was just ok. I was on my way to Mangu (local hot spot at the Occidental) anyway so it didn't matter to me. The gym has up-to-date equipment and very clean. Ok, there's always some down sides so here they are...the resort, although stunning, is WAY too big and the train is too slow. I still got lost even on my last day, although if you see one of the staff on one of the golf carts, they were happy to give you a ride. The phone operators are very rude. The reservation system for the restaurants is whack. The food in the buffet is good but the selection is minimal and they serve the same thing night after night, just cooked a different way. The Japanese restaurant is lovely but the food was disappointing. Hated having to pay to use the safe in the room. I was in building 23 where the peacocks liked to hang out (loved that) but I guess it was mating season because they cried out (loudly) early early in the morning. One more thing, I was petrified at night walking to and from my room because of the frogs that liked to come out at night. I discovered a frog on my balcony (on the 2nd floor) on my first day so, needless to say, I didn't open my balcony door the whole time I was there. The time share guys didn't hassle me too much. Just learn to say "no" and they'll back off. For those people who complain about the staff not being bilingual, you are in a Spanish speaking country...so lea

This hotel was very nice, i was a little leary after reading some of the other comments on this resort, but was VERY pleased! it is a HUGE resort, we got lost the first couple days, but the staff would pick you up on their goft carts and take you anywhere you wanted to go as well as the trolley. the japaneese restraunt is to die for! great great food! we ate there twice. you need to call a day in advance for dinner reservations. call right at 915am and you will have no problems. we also ate at the seafood restraunt and it was very good as well. we didnt care for the italian restraunt that much but it could of been our fault on how we ordered. also the buffets for breakfast and lunch are actually pretty good and have a huge selection on food. they will fry you fresh eggs and omelettes and have lots of fruit, juice, bread, lunch meat, cheese, fresh cooked veggies and tons of other stuff to choose from. i was very impressed w/the buffets... i wouldnt of wanted to eat dinner there though just because we ate there for lunch and breakfast. the wildlife was great too. lots of peacocks and flamingos. we actually had a peacock nesting her eggs in our flower bed on our patio. she laid one egg each night and there were 3 by the time we left. it was pretty neat. the staff was extremely nice. we tipped alot, its not expected.. but they dont make much and made sure your stay was nice and enjoyable. also you can tip the gardeners and they will climb up in the trees and get you a coconut and let you drink the juice inside and cut open another one for you to eat. i loved this! it was very neat! we did the speed boat/snorkling tour which was very fun! the tours on the snorkeling were great and brought up stuff for us to hold and would let us feed the fish while under water which made them come really close to us. it was awesome! the drinks were yummy too! in the bars and lounges alot stronger than around the pool, but still great!
