Location Description:
Glamorous, spontaneous and splashy, Acapulco is a city that invites superlatives. It delivers an action-packed, 24 hour exuberance that makes every moment count, with an array of atractions and activities to please almost any visitor. Some archaeological excavations indicate that the port was inhabited as far back as 3000 B.C.The first European to arrive in the bay in 1521. Around 1532, Acapulco came under the domain of Spanish colonizers who referred to it as the "City of Kings" as it was considered to have the most beautiful beaches - an observation which holds true today. With the return of Spanish galleons from their trips to the Orient, Acapulco's port was declared the official trade site between Asia and America. Acapulco, the queen of Mexican beach resorts, is ever-popular with year-round, foreign and domestic visitors. As the birthplace of the Mexican travel industry, it is world renowned for several firsts. Acapulco introduced global vacation instituti...

The Grand Mayan Acapulco is a great place for families. We had an awesome trip and would stay here again. We have 2 boys (ages 4 and 6) and there was plenty for them to do. The pool is gorgeous. The beach is one of the best we have ever seen. The sunsets are beautiful. We truly liked everything about this resort. The resort is about 25 minutes from downtown Acapulco. This didn't bother us because we had everything we needed at the resort and downtown seemed to be too crowded. You can get a nice cab driver at the resort to take you around.

1st time was a mistake, 2nd time was a disaster! Online travel website has the wrong address listed, we drove & couldn't find the place. The place itself is awesome! Pool area, kids pool park, & the beach are very nice. But their service is very poor, we were very disapointed. The only people that are attentive & the ones you have to tip. The rooms are nice, we had the suite & it has a kitchen. The location is good, about 20 minutes from downtown & close to the airport. There's a Walmart & Costco near by. I didn't like their Check in/out policy, check in is until 5PM, & check out is 10AM, & if you go over any extra minutes after 10am they will charge you for a full night. Our vehicle was at the valet parking & was crashed by another guests vehicle while their employee was driving it. . It took them 5 days to give us all the information needed. They gave us the run around and didn't want to coperate with us. At the end we didn't even get an apology none the less any discount or offers. The place itself is wonderful, it's very unfortunate that they have no skills to run a place like that.

I purchased a RCI voucher at a charity auction and ended up at the Mayan Palace. This was our sixth trip to Mexico in 4 years and we have also traveled extensively all over the world. This hotel is by far the worst I have I ever stayed in. The Mayan Palace is due for demolition in less than 2 years so you can imagine its current condition. Our first room, had a lovely view of the construction site of the new Mayan Palace. The sofas were stained, the thermostat was filthy and broken, the bed mattress super uncomfortable, the furniture was scratched up, the microwave was cracked, there were scores of little bugs all over, etc. You get the picture. I reached out to the front desk for help but was dismissed rightaway. My wife and I went down to the lobby and asked for the manager. After a lot of excuses, the duty manager offered to move us to another room. A little cleaner and a partial pool view. The limited dining choices here are super overpriced and the majority of the wait staff is clueless. We did have a good dinner on the night of the shrimp buffet. The drinks are very weak and about $10 for a scotch and water! The pools are very nice as is the beautiful beach. The staff is very unfriendly, struggle with basic english and avoid helping you as much as they can. We spent a lot of time away from the hotel and in town. The front desk staff is particularly rude and the timeshare folks are everywhere. The Grand Mayan resort which is part of the complex looked a million times better in terms of decor, cleanliness and luxury. I offered to pay the difference and asked to be moved to the Grand Mayan but was told another story and declined. If you love to vacation in squalor, far from the sights, pay through the nose and enjoy insect bites, this is definetly the hotel for you!!! Otherwise, keep looking!!!

The swimming pools and other facilities are wonderful. Our 1 BR unit had shopworn sofas and kitchen. The staff and services were great. Restaurant food was average and overpriced. Our great tour guide, X provided airport transpotation and took us on several nice tours X's rates are reasonable. He is fluent in English and is extremely helpful and friendly. He stays with you on tour. X uses an air conditioned Impala sedan and drives very carefully. We recommend X as an outstanding, always punctual driver and guide.

The Grand Mayan is an amazing place. I went for an all-girls weekend with my mom, sister, and best friend. We had a great time laying out by the pool, participating in activities (volleyball, water aerobics, and salsa lessons), and walking down the beach. The only negative aspects were not being able to get an ocean-view room and being relatively far from the center of Acapulco(15 min). Other than that, the hotel grounds are majestic and the attention to detail was incredible. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing time at the beach!

The hotel was wonderful. The suite was so large and could comfortably fit 6. The kitchenette is perfect and supplies everything and stores are a short trip away. The restaurants suprised me by the quality of food - it was great. The Italian one at the Sea Garden is a must. In-roof safe is great tool. Would definately stay again - a nice and less crowded alternative to staying downtown on the Bay.

I found the staff to be terriffic! the Activities Director and Arts and Crafts people were friendly and fun to be around. We loved playing Bingo and taking Water Aerobics. The Mexican Fiesta was horribly overpriced, and perhaps the only negative of the trip. The beach was well patrolled by security and we felt very safe everywhere we went. I think the trips offered by the resort were overpriced, but we found a local person who happily took us wherever we wanted to go. I would be happy to pass along his name - just ask.

We own at Mayan Palace and had a chance to stay at the Grand Mayan for a few extra dollars. I have to say that Acapulco is one of the nicer Mayan resort properties. The outdoor lobby is spectacular, the pool was beautiful and the resort had many nice amenities like the restaurants, bars, disco and Internet cafe. Positives: The pool is great with lots of room to splash and it overlooked the beach. The beach is beautiful--warm water and only waist deep for several yards out. Most of the staff were very courteous, friendly and very helpful. Neutral: The restaurants are good with a nice variety of food but it is fairly expensive compared to the restaurants in town. The resort location is close to the airport but is over thirty minutes from downtown Acapulco and the nightlife. The rooms are very nice but the beds are rock hard. Negatives: Stay away from the salesmen--they are sharks waiting to take your money. About half the staff do not speak English and we found it difficult to communicate with some of them. Overall, we had a very nice vacation at the resort. We will most likely return in the future

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Mayan Resort for our honeymoon in mid-August. The weather was gorgeous, and we really enjoyed the pool and warm ocean water. Beyond that, though, there was not much for entertainment. We did take advantage of a city tour which we both really enjoyed; however, we were also interested in taking a night/day cruise. Unfortunately, the resort was not offering either at the time. We also wanted to go snorkeling, but even our city tour guide suggested that we go to Jamaica or Hawaii for that! The restaurants were pretty pricey; however, we saved some money by packing granola bars, canned fruit, and oatmeal in our luggage along with a lot of bottled water for breakfast and snacks and also took advantage of happy hours whenever possible (4.60 for a beer and 8 for a mixed drink or two for one during happy hours). There is a gift shop where munchies, drinks, gifts, etc. can be bought, but the prices are really high there too. My suntan lotion exploded in my suitcase, and what would cost me 2 US was almost 15 there. I would also recommend packing your own beach towels because if you use one from the resort and it is not returned by 8:00 PM, you are charged an extra 30/day. For using a timeshare, I did expect a nicer room than what we received, but only the "Palace" portion of the Grand Mayan has the nice balconies and fountains and we were in merely the "Resort" portion. That would've been nice to know ahead of time. On a brighter note, the people were very nice - minus the vendors constantly nagging you on the beach; though, if you pretend to sleep they don't bother you!

Family got sick for days due to the mold from a/c. Also, the dehumidifiers needed to be refilled. Management were not sympathetic and refused even a small compensation like breakfast. The prices of food, spa, gym, etc. are extremely high. Overall, the resort is beautiful.

I went here by myself and did have a good time. There were many activities to keep me busy and PLENTY of space at the different pools and beach to relax. The lobby and restaurants are beautiful. The food is okay. I would stay again with family, but think if you are trying to plan a family vacation - this is a good place. There is a fun, little water park and a Kids Club.
