I live in Hawaii, so I already know that we tend to have higher prices here, but the little store inside the hotel has quite a markup. Maybe because the occupancy rate is down about 30% they are trying to re-coup some profits, but is charging such a markup going to ecourage a return stay - it's not like they are the Ritz. It is almost like being punished for being on vacation when everywhere you stop/stay the leeches are drawing every drop of blood they can. We did much of our chip/soda shopping at the local Wal-Mart, and got a 10% discount to boot! Maybe if the hotels were aware of this, they'd drop some things to a more resonable rate, unless they are counting on people's ignorance about where to shop. The room was clean, the personnel were helpful and polite. No problems there.

Arriving midmorning on the Superferry from Honolulu, we were very fortunate because our non-smoking room was ready 5 hours early. The room was comfortable, clean, and the air conditioning was great! The staff was friendly and helpful, and helped enhance our stay, with great suggestions and directions. Our room had a port with internet access and electrical outlet all in one, very convenient for those who need internet access. I was a little leery after reading some of the negative reviews, but booked anyway, and we're glad we did. There's a beautiful but rocky beach nearby, but I enjoy views rather than sand and sun, so this was the perfect view from our room. Travelers, be aware that in Kahului, there are not a lot of places to "stroll" other than the malls. If walking and viewing sights are your passion, there are many parks etc. that you can drive to and then walk. Kahului has its own unique flavor - it's not Lahaina, nor is it Kihei. Do your homework, and you won't be disappointed. Kahului is Kahului, with its own charms.

There is nothing fancy about this hotel, but it is perfectly fine for one night particularly if you're returning from Haleakala, Hana or some of the other activities on this side of the island. If you're going to be gone all day and just need a bed for the night, the hotel is decent option. It is by no means an upscale resort and would be a bit limiting if you were staying there for a week or so. It's in a busy area of town, so not a lot of charming walkable things to do.

This was my first time at the Maui Beach Hotel. It is in a fantastic location, scenic was beautiful! When I first arrived at the Hotel the front desk gal informed us that our room wasn't going to be ready. We waited for an 1 1/2 before our room was ready. Now after a 6 hour flight I was looking forward to lying down but that didn't happen because our room wasn't ready. We hardly spent time in the hotel, everyday my boyfriend and I had some type of excursion scheduled. But by the end of the day, we would arrive home exhausted and so looking forward to sleeping. The Hotel was used to sleep, shower, and out the door we go...so overall we enjoyed staying at the Maui Beach Hotel!

After reading the reviews I was very hesitant to stay at this hotel for more than one night (& not looking forward to that, either.) However, I was very pleasantly suprised by everything about this little gem! The staff was gracious and most helpful at every turn, smiles on all of their faces, every one, all the time. The room was clean and we had the most lovely view of the mountains! The street noises were obliterated when windows were closed and the AC was on. The beds were comfortable. You can't beat the location, convenience-wise, and, although we did not have one of the rooms with a lanai, we enjoyed sitting out back every evening, listening to the ocean, sipping our own cocktails. I expected a dingy, run-down motel. I believed, after reading the reviews, the only reason one would stay there is for the convenience to certain locations, and I desperately tried to get a room elsewhere. However, I repeat, I would be very very happy to stay there again! The food looked delicious, but our schedule did not allow us to partake in that fare. The pool looked inviting (they could use some umbrellas out there!) but we were on the run so did not enjoy it, either. DO stay there, but do not expect a $700/night resort atmosphere, just a homey, comfortable, clean, convenient, and friendly experience.

Upon arrival in Maui (Kahalui) we were picked up by the hotel shuttle and taken to the hotel. The hotel is located approximately one mile from the airport which was nice. The check in was no problem. When reaching the room we found it to be in order, execpt there were some sort of insects in and under the pillow which I got rid of. Also, the hotel is located just arcross the street from a decent sized mall. I only interacted with one staff member, who was very friendly, because in of course we only spent 5 -6 hours there, as you can guess, the rest of the time was spent seeing Maui. There is a Wal-Mart, Kmart, and Costco very near. A car is necessary when visting Maui, and staying at this hotel. All in all, I was very statified and plan to stay there again in December.

Our room was not ready by the posted check-in time of 3 p.m. and there was no apology for any inconvenience forthcoming from the bored desk staff. (The female bell captain, it must be said, was very nice and offered to store our luggage while we went shopping to kill time.) Once we finally got into our quarters (after 4) things improved. The hotel has undergone recent major renovation and the accommodations are apparently much better than they used to be--I had no complaints with the so-called deluxe room we were assigned. A security door to the hallway where the rooms are requires a room key to open, an inconvenience. Kahului is hardly one of Maui's highlights, but if you want to stay centrally located to both sides of the island and/or close by the airport this hotel is reasonably priced and convenient. Some of the staff, however, definitely could use some attitude adjustment. Incidentally, despite its name the hotel has no beachfront, although there are some nice views of the water.

The location of the Maui Beach Hotel was very convenient for my purposes. It is within walking distance to the shopping districts. The room was adequate and I was pleased to discover a refrigerator. The quietness of the rear patio and lawn down to the beach was a plus.

My online travel website profile is for non-smoking rooms only. When we checked in, the sign-in form highlighted that I would be charged 50% more if I smoked in a non-smoking room. When we got to our room we found it to be reeking of cigarette smoke. I went back to the registration desk and informed them that the room they gave us was not non-smoking. I was told that a large number of surfers checked in for a tournament, and that they had given away all of the non-smoking rooms. They said they didn't receive my non-smoking preference because they don't get that field transferred from online travel website. Too late to get into a different hotel, we had to endure a night of breathing all the smoke that had absorbed into what must be at least 20 year old carpet. Not a good experience.

We needed a place to stay near the airport which is why we chose the Maui Beach Hotel. The room was small but clean. Happy to see free in-room internet access. It was ok for an overnight but would not recommend for an entire vacation in Hawaii. Not much beach and limited eating options in hotel. We followed others advise and walked to the mall across the street for dinnner (food court options). Not exactly the Hawaiian experience you want for your first night but it seemed lodging options were limited near the airport.

When I visit Maui I like to stay at the Maui Beach because it's not too far from the airport and easy to find. The people are friendly, the rooms are clean, free parking, close to stores and the mall and Lahaina is just a 20 minute drive away.. not bad at all... I recommend staying at the Maui Beach... it's also very reasonable too.

Nice little private beach with a view of the harbor and ships coming in and out. Very picturesque garden setting with palm trees all around in the center of the hotel. Staff very nice, too. Very convenient location to stores, shopping and site seeing.

"Called prior to departure to check on complimentary shuttle. Hotel staff confirmed shuttle would be available at our late arrival time -to call when we landed. However, when we landed, we were told the shuttle didn't run that late at night and to take a taxi - on us! When we asked to talk to a manager - none were available."

This hotel was clean and the staff was friendly, but the pool closed at 5pm because they served dinner then. The breakfast was too expensive and always the same. And what kind of hotel does not have COFFEE free and in the lobby.

"Service was bad. Carpet wet, room small and buffet was very pricey for what was offered. Front desk personal not cooperative. No lawn chairs and no beach- they need to spend some money on outdoor furniture and grooming their beach."

"Not all employees showed curtesy to the Guess. Pillows is a must for them to have extras and Front office needs to be polite when guess are asking for it.Housekeeping has a great service, but need to have more pillows in stock.Need to make adjustments to the pools time. The closing time for the pool was too early."

We chose the Maui Beach Hotel for our last night in Maui because it is reasonably priced and close to the airport. It was clean, had a small refrigerator, and service was good. Their buffet dinner was a good deal for the price, and included fresh sushi and crab legs. They offered free internet service (not wifi). The grounds were well cared for and they had a grassy area that opened to a tiny rocky beach overlooking a docked cruise ship. The room was small, the TV was a challenge to figure out, and the air conditioner was difficult to regulate to a single, comfortable temperature. The pool is rooftop, next to the restaurant, so it closes at 5 pm, before the restaurant opens for dinner. We would stay there again, for our first night or last night on Maui.

"As stated in the other review, the rooms are quite small. Don't expect an ocean / beach front view, the hotel is on a harbor with limited access to the water. This hotel is good for business stays because of the location and price however, it is not a resort. There is no high speed internet or coffee maker in the rooms. These two items are important to most business travelers. The hotel is old however, it was clean, as was my room. The buffet was good but a bit pricey for what it was. If you are visiting Maui on a limited budget, this may also work out well for you."
