This cluster of white buildings, only one mile south of San Pedro, is reminiscent of a little Greek hotel. Even the decks are painted white. This is a small homegrown hotel with a friendly staff and quality product. Arrivals are given a welcome drink as they check in. The two-story building folds around a shallow pool. There is no restaurant, but a Continental breakfast is included and snacks are served at the palapa bar where guests gather for happy hour to exchange tour stories. A 20-minute walk to town holds several dining options. Using one of the complimentary bikes makes it even more convenient. Accommodations vary, but most have wood floors and brightly painted cement walls with matching spreads and curtains. Standard rooms come with queen beds and suites feature kings. All are air-conditioned with ceiling fans, TVs, refrigerators, clocks, coffeemakers and safes, and come with shower-only baths. This charming budget hotel is an excellent value, cleaner than some of the more expensive options, and run by a very friendly staff. Perfect for divers and guests who prefer to explore town a little in the evenings. This is a great value, especially compared to bigger places like Banyan Bay.

If we were to go back to Ambergis Caye I would definetly stay here again. Going somewhere for the first time is always a crap shoot. Pictures sometimes look better than the real thing. For the price, you will not find better accomodations on the island, I guarantee it. The place is IMO a 4 star resort. I may sound like i'm grandstanding but I do not have one complaint about the place. The place was super clean. The rooms are large. The location is perfect. It was very safe. You are within walking distance of several restaurants and grocery stores. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to help. And what we liked most was that it seemed like everyone staying there was like one big family. It was nice getting to know other people, and getting feedback about activities and restaurants and things to do. Overall we had a blast, and we will be going back for sure.

was ok. it was basically some kind of office converted over into a hotel. plain white walls. very very very small rooms..they bathroom had white tile with drk black grout..it was clean .. and nice spot on the beach .. ill give it that. but not very upscale at all. staff is sort of friendly , and breakfast they serve is mediocre. its the same one every day. also when they say pool deck view room , what they mean is they put you next to the pool ,where your front door is abt 5 feet from it. not that you get a room with a deck and a view of the pool. so its somewhat misleading

Ok I NEVER write reviews but my husband and I truly enjoyed our short stay at Ambergris Caye that we have to tell you about it. What made it even more memorable was Mata Rocks. It's located nearby to a lot of delicious eateries and getting around is quite easy. Their staff truly rocks and made sure we were taken care of. I don't think we've ever met a kinder staff that bent over backwards for us. It's quite rare. Although we were pressed for time we were able to do many adventurous activities with the help of the staff at the bar. Shark Alley and Hol Chan is a must! Everything was kept clean and we even got an upgrade to a suite! All rooms basically have an ocean view and is just a few steps to the water. The owner of the hotel had a dog roaming around which made me not miss my dogs so much. We will definitely come back to this hotel in the near future.

I would definitely recommend Mata Rocks Resort! Ive stayed at other resorts on the island in the past but Mata Rocks far surpassed my expectations. I go to the island after mission trips on the mainland and this resort is very peaceful, definitely a great place to come and relax. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were beautiful. The only downfall was that there was a lot of seaweed on the beach and in the water but you will find that anywhere on the island. I can't wait to go back next year.

Mata Rocks provides a quality vacation and personalized service that is hard to find . The owners and staff made us feel like family, and helped us in every way possible. Excellent value, a lot of peace & quiet when we wanted it, and a great Squirrel's Nest beach side palapa bar and activities when we wanted to do that.
