There are also many other places that guarantee fun and leisure entertainment such as the Movie Park Germany, the Alpin Center (indoor skiing hall) and the VELTINS Arena, the football stadium of the FC Schalke O4 football club. The coal mine “Zeche Zollverein” with its industrial monuments, once called the "Forbidden Town", has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site and its existence was one of the most important criteria when Essen was declared Cultural Capital of Europe 2010. The area around the former coal mine is a symbiosis of culture and nature and only 4.5 km away from the hotel.
