Comfort and style in central ReadingI have stayed at the Malmaison in Reading several times in the last 12 months, usually when I can get a deal on the price from Laterooms. The hotel is distincly boutique with its them of the Great Western Railway throughout the hotel, including the station-type announcements in the elevators!Rooms are very comfortable with good facilities and excellent bathrooms, staff are typically very friendly and helpful and both room service and restaurants offer excellent food at a fair price.Only one small gripe, the TV system seems to be digital throughout the hotel and sound is sometimes broken up as if the bandwidth is not sufficient, but I'm really scratching the barrell to find even that to complain about. Location is right opposite Reading Station and the Airport bus stop (for Heathrow) and just a short walk from the shops on the High Street and the Oracle Shopping Mall so you couldn't get a more central location. You can sometimes get the less popular rooms when you book through Laterooms but that just means you don't get much of a view of central Reading!

What a lovely experienceThe room simply blew me away. Maybe 5 years on it will be tatty, but now this is one of the lovelist designed rooms I have been in. Modern, dark and comfortable, this hotel has a theme and it's executed well. The food was not bad, a little pricey but I guess that is to be expected at this level.

Malmaison we have always been impressed with, but sadly the room was not as good as previous hotels. The TV didnt work, the blinds didnt open, the bathroom was down some stairs which were a little precarious in the night! Too much noise from the Night Club next doorWe only stayed for the one night, otherwise we would have taken issue, but will not stay in the Reading Hotel again. On the plus side, as is usual comfort of bed and linen very good.

A pleasure as alwaysMalmaison have hit on a successful formula and they deliver it every time. Best hotel in Reading in my opinion (yes better than Forbury).

Great hotel lovingly restoredThis is a great hotel handily located by station but near shops. Great rooms with all you'd expect from one of my favourite hotel groups. Very friendly staff and service. Quirky photos and art on railway theme nice touch.

A very comfortable night's stayStayed one night on a recent business trip to Reading, hotel was comfortable, very clean, had all amenities you could require. Good to have free wi-fi access. Only observation I would make that the hotel was very warm and in the common parts a little dark but that was minor compared to the room which was everything I could have possibly required.

Just perfect.......Malmaison has got it right, a high standard of quality in the hotel and staff that are just how you like them, Happy , know their job, pleased to help and adapted and resolve to a situation that please's you, fun, and professional... I work in film and TV, I'm George Clooney's stunt double, and i am a stunt co-ordinator , so i work all around the world and stay in a lot of hotel's , in London and England as well, so believe me when i say that Malmaison is the best hotel chain i have ever stayed in , i totally enjoy staying at your hotel's, they are so well and beautifully decorated, with always a great bar... I even told George C, about your hotel's, and reccommened that the film production crew should stay at the hotel's, when filming , so if your profit's went up , that's down to me.....lol, Anyway just to say i will always stay at a Malmaison hotel; so thank you all and see you soon... p.s Any special offers going, let me know!!..lol cheers.......Andy smart...

Not a good stay prior to Reading Half Marathon!I chose this hotel because of it's location to Reading Train Station, from where I needed to catch a shuttle bus the next day to Madjeski Stadium for the Reading Half Marathon. However, the room was in the part of the hotel next to a club which didn't stop playing music until 3 am on Sunday morning - the same day when the clocks went forward as well as the Reading Half Marathon. The service overall was excellent (they served porridge at 0530!) and only faulted by the lack of warning about the Saturday night noise levels from next door. They could have provided ear plugs at the very least or ideally, an option to upgrade (if there was one on a Saturday night). They refunded £20 which wasn't much considering the price of the room and breakfast. I definitely would not recommend it for a relaxing stay, particularly before the Reading Half Marathon.

Too noisy on a Saturday nightI stayed on a Saturday night, room facing the street, second floor. The noise from the Disco at the late night bar next door meant sleep was impossible before 3am. Felt like we were sleeping on a dance floor. In addition to that, the noise from the street of people milling around drunk, buying kebabs opposite the hotel, shouting as they do meant I was close to demanding a room change - I was told that none were available. This is a shame because an otherwise pleasant stay in a lovely room was shattered by this noise. Needless to say we were exhausted in the morning and refreshed at all. If staying on a weekend, request a room at the rear of the hotel.

The Malmaison Reading is a really lovely place to stay, the rooms are luxurious and the bed's very comfy! The only thing to bear in mind if you are staying on a Friday or Saturday night is the nightclub which is next door - if you are a light sleeper like myself then ask to be put in one of the back rooms of the hotel as the rooms at the front can get noisy, especially if you open the window for soem air. The staff here are very accomodating so you shouldn't have any problems if you ask when you arrive.

Outstanding service. All the staff we incredibly helpful and ALWAYS had a smile on their face. A very refreshing experience. I would definitely go back there. Nothing was too much trouble. Service was second to none

Very surprised the hotel did not have Valet Parking, given directions to NCP but due to rush hour traffic did not reach there to another 30mins! On arrival I was told by the steward he wouldnt recommend leaving my car there and directed me to the shopping centre Took me 20 mins to walk to hotel once parked. For this standard of hotel you would expect better, ill be staying at the Forbury next timeAlso there was no minibar in room, you could order your drinks from reception cabinet on check in, weird!!Apart from that hotel very nice and room exquisite

Very disappointed with this Malmaison hotel, given the high standard of some others we have stayed at. Being a new addition to the Malmaison chain, I was very shocked at the amount of dust there was on most surfaces in the room, and also that one of the bedside lamps was not working. Also, we contacted reception at a late hour to try and find out if there would be any shops open in the vicinity, as we needed something, and could not get the people on reception to understand what I wanted! English speaking staff available round the clock would be a huge help. Location of the hotel is also very poor, and turns into chaos as the pubs and clubs reach kicking out time. There are bars and nightclubs, literally a couple of doors away, and finding various 'messes' outside the hotel next morning is very unpleasant. All in all, I would not recommend this Malmaison hotel to anyone I know.

Expect very dark decor. Excellent train/rail theming throughout. Room service risotto was laced with so much black pepper it was inedible. Replacement (comp) ice cream took 1 hour to come.Excellent brekkie.

another mal, another good stay, we thought it might be noise as the room was on the 1st floor and a nightclub was nearby, but we didn't hear a single sound. our only dissappointment was that the minibar was empty, a bit inconvenient when we had the munchies at 02:30. alough when checking in they did offer to fill the fridge!

Mal Maison rooms are lovely. The breakfast is the best we have had anywhere - eggs benedict made to order! Perfect location - 2 minutes from train station and close to shops, clubs & restaurants. Nice area to lounge & chill near the reception - or in the main bar. Very modern decor and friendly staff. Highly recommended. Always a treat for us to stay at Mal Maison Reading.
