Description:
Secluded at Makena Resort on a perfect .25 mile of a beach at the foot of Haleakala the Maui Prince Hotel is a sanctuary. The serenity can be felt from the first moment a lei of seashells is draped over your shoulders and you are welcomed with the genuine smiles and warm attention of the staff. The entire hotel is built around an Asian meditation garden with stone paths quiet corners for contemplation waterfalls and streams swarming with brilliant red and gold carp. The roof is the sky. The door of every room opens to this atrium while the windows and lanai look out upon the ocean. Most people settle into the immediate serenity and find themselves sitting beside the pool or on the beach watching all the little white boats streaming to Molokini. And if the sea is calm they may hear the great humpback whales singing in the deep. - Makena North Course - Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. the Makena North Course opened in 1993 to rave reviews. The North Course feels more like a nature walk than a golf course with captivating mountain views of Haleakala Crater and sweeping views of the blue Pacific Ocean. Hawaiian rock walls remain where they were found and natural gullies and stream beds are left intact. - Makena South Course - Sharing the spirit that embodies the Makena Resort, the South Course provides the serenity and tranquility many golfers are looking for. With its natural rolling fairways undulating greens and breathtaking views of the ocean and mountains the South Course is a favorite among many Maui golfers. Both courses are owned and operated by the hotel. The South Course was recently renovated and re-opened in January 2002. All new grass from tee to green new bunker sand and concrete cart path has been added. - Prince Keiki Club - Our popular childrens program, Prince Keiki Club. Keiki children- ages 5-12 can enjoy hours of fun and meet friends from around the world. Activities range from sand castle building swimming Hawaiian arts and crafts treasure/scavenger hunts treasure box making and much more. -Guests can play shuffleboard, volleyball or even relax at the beach or poolside in one of our cabanas. This hotel has a lot of potential but is poorly managed. The staff lied about capacity when we asked for a room with a better view. We were told by the desk clerk that they were at 70% capacity when they were in fact at 34% as we observed the bellman's computer when we arrived. The manager would not come out and speak to us but told the desk clerk to tell us it would be an additional $70 a night for a regular room with a better view ans $400 more a night for a suite. He said he could go no lower without getting fired. Unprofessional to say the least. Our air conditioner never worked properly even after a supposed repair. The service issues are too numerous to list. This hotel is in need of better decor and is very plain. The rooms are spacious and the lanai's are large. It could be a great resort if properly managed.

The location of the hotel is the best I have ever seen. It is like a garden, quiet, beautiful, isolated, with great beach. Best place for retreat. The room seems like a little bit older than our expectation. It is a wonderful place to stay. The location of the hotel is the best I have ever seen. It is a garden on the beach side: peaceful, beautiful and romantic. The room is spacious: bathroom is separated from the restroom; the balcony is big enough to accommodate a dinning set. From the balcony, you can look out to the beautiful Makena Beach. I wish I could spend more days there.

We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay for our wedding and honeymoon. The entire staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurants are superb and the location and views from the hotel are magnificent! We were very pleased and would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone.

When I booked this trip I had no idea that after reviewing several hotels that I FINALLY found the perfect hotel for my boyfriend's birthday. I made an excellent choice. My boyfriend agreed that it was a beautiful resort. The resort is just absolutely beautiful. We had an ocean view room so every morning, we woke up to a beautiful sunrise and to the sonds of the ocean waves. The private beach is just gorgeous. We had the breakfast buffet everyday down by the beautiful pond. We had dinner at the Molokini Lounge several times. A nice place to have a couple of drinks, you can order from the menu or you can have the awesome buffet that is well worth the money, and of course, the entertainment that is provided. It was awesome. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely a must is renting a vehicle and go site seeing around the resort. It is the best way to see and explore everything on your own. The resort is set in the most beautiful area of the island. What a perfect place for us to have called "home" for 6 nights. Thank you for a most memorable stay. You guys are the best.

We loved this beautiful old Hawaiian hotel out on Makena Point in Wailea with outstanding golf courses and excellent beach front for snorkeling. The grounds and landscaping were mature and lush. Snorkel trip to Molokini available on beach (excellent). We would stay there again.

Private balcony, nobody could see into our room. The pool was small. I was not pleased with the random $15 service fee. When we got there, we did not use any of their facilities, such as the restaurant or the pool, though we did go look at the pool and noticed it was small compared to other hotels we have stayed at of this star rating. However, you are charged a facilities fee which to me is insane! If you eat at the restaurant you pay for it, why should you also pay $15 to swim in their pool or park at their hotel or eat at one of their restaurants makes no sense, and we weren't told about it upon check in either.

The staff and room were awesome! My friend and I stayed for spring break. It was the most life changing experience I ever had and being at the Maui Prince did it for me.

We just got back from staying at the Maui Prince for a week, and it was fabulous. We were very pleased with every aspect of our stay there. Some highlights: (1) The rooms are very comfortable, and you have the option of leaving your door and window open to experience a cross breeze if you like (there is a second, slatted, inner door that you can close and lock. (2) The hotel staff was incredibly nice, from the bell service to checkin to maid service. (3) The beach is wonderful -- it is relatively large and always has a nice breeze. There are chaise lounges available for hotel guests, and towels can be picked up right at the beach. The beach itself is a short, pleasant walk from the hotel. There is world-class snorkeling available right off the beach, to the left. Many tours bring paying customers to this area to visit the "turtle town" (you'll know what I mean as soon as you look at any free Maui coupon/guide book). There is a black sand beach that is reachable by snorkeling around a rock formation, also to the left of the beach. (4) The hotel is very private (it is in a quite part of the island), and seems almost empty much of the time. Perfect for that Maui getaway!! (5) The restaurants that we tried all provided excellent food and service. (6) There hotel has a large inner courtyard that has lots of pretty vegetation, a couple of streams with waterfalls, a koi pond, and a couple of fountains. It's great. If I had to say anything negative about the hotel, it would be that the internet service they provide is not free. But that is a VERY small thing compared to the overall spectacular experience we had.

Hotel is very nice with very attentive and friendly staff. It is located away from main hotel areas so it is more quiet and relaxing. Nice pools and beach area with amenities. Snorkeling with many fish and sea turtles. Activities desk located in hotel. We like hiking so we traveled the Island to various trails.

While the Prince has some postive characteristics, I would not stay there again. The service is very friendly and efficient, the food is generally good, the outside grounds are generally very attractive and the beach is geat. But things go downhill from there. The place is quite run down, and it appears little or no upkeep money has been put into it since it was built. Furniture is old and well-worn, paint is dirty and faded, and floors are disgustingly dirty throughout the facility. What this place desperately needs most is a cleaning crew with mops and paint brushes and a couple of months of time. While the prices there are cheaper than the other hotels in the area, the Prince doesn't begin to compare in terms of the overall experience and the quality of the amenties relative to its competition. You are definitely getting what you pay for.

My husband and I were in Maui for business. The place is gorgeous! The grounds were constantly were well-maintained and picturesque. We enjoyed many strolls throughout the grounds. The spacious room had a wonderful view and was well-kept. The staff was friendly and helpful. Lots of activities onsite to choose from. I took advantage of the fitness room. I was impressed it was split into two areas with a full bathroom. We also appreciated the use of the laundry room. It came in very handy and was not pricey at all. Our stay at the Maui Prince was very memorable and we look forward to returning with our family.

My sister and I spent a week at this hotel during our recent trip to Maui (April '09). We were slightly wary at first b/c travel books had mentioned that the hotel was "removed" from the other resorts and that staying there would mean a lot of extra driving time. When we arrived we couldn't have been happier with our choice! The hotel has been recently renovated and is beautiful and quiet. We had spectacular ocean views from our private balcony and the staff were friendly and helpful. The activities desk helped us book outstanding spa appointments as well as a snorkeling trip that we won't soon forget. The beach near this hotel is one of the best we visited. It is great for swimming and extremely close to the hotel--a two minute walk down a beautifully kept (and paved) path. We visited another VERY popular hotel during our stay and it made us feel even better about our choice--we did not share our beach with two other resorts, and there was a good balance of families and couples at our hotel. Our original fears about being too far removed were also dispelled during our trip. Apparently, anything that isn't two minutes away is "far" away according to locals Yes our location added an additional five minutes to a few of our travels, but it was well worth it.

We had a wonderful stay the the Maui Prince. My only gripe is with security. Someone was smoking on our floor, 3 letters and having our door pounded on more than once demanding to know if we were smoking, I was more than a little annoyed. We don't smoke.

It was so far away from everything. We had to add two hours of drive time to every trip that we wanted to plan. The bathroom was not that clean (the shower curtain was black on the bottom). The only saving grace was the beach in the back. Gorgeous white sand, great snorkling and TURTLES! The restaurants were over priced (beware of the brunch, not worth it!) Also, after a 15 hours to get to Hawaii, our room wasn't ready! Then they offered us a cool cloth, seriously! We tried to convince ourlselves the views were worth it...

We stayed one night on our way to our time share. Although the staff were nice, the room was in need of a remodel. the shower did not work (no cold water), the bathroom smelled like mold, but the view was very nice - all ocean! Old TV but pretty nice beds and space. The resort plans to remodel the rooms later this year. Ate at the Japanese buffet, food mediocre and overpriced for the selection and quality (and we travel to Maui yearly and have been all over the island!). The on site free activities were great, included shuffle board, golf, ping pong and croquet. The beach is really gorgeous, pool and hot tub ok. For the price we paid, and for a one night stay, the only thing I would say was really difficult was the broken shower. For a week it might be a bit much. Two great places to eat: Saigon Cafe in Waikulu, and Mama's ribs and bbq in Napili (at the plaza). Great food, excellent service, really good prices.

We go to Maui every year and have for 10 years. We have stayed in condos and several hotels. This by far is our favorite. Yes it is at the end of the island, but so very quiet and relaxing, which is what we look for when we're on vacation. The valet parking is great and the people are so friendly. We stay two to three weeks and I only pack for one because they have their own laundry room. This hotel is a mile or two from Big Beach which is a gorgeous beach on Maui. The grounds at the Maui Prince are breath taking. Fairy tale like. They have a fantastic golf course and tennis courts. You could'nt ask for more. The only thing I would say is yes they could update the rooms. Although, our room was spacious and the king size bed was very comfortable.
