room g-705; no hot water upon check in. gas pilot light went out twice. they upgraded us to a beautiful room; made us feel like staying another week.

Good value for the money, beautiful views and setting, great service and atmosphere. Surrounding area wasless than desirable. The drive to the hotel takes you past more than one beach than has become a homeless camp. On the other hand we encountered several beautiful uncluttered beaches and friendly citizens. The hotel is very well isolated from this environment. I was pleased with the stay.

I have stayed in Waikiki for three times ever. This is my first time to choose this hotel. So, I had some anxiety about this stay. But, everything was good for pleasant stay with my wife. The hotel is located in the beautiful Makaha Valley, where we have nice views of mountain range, valley and ocean. Also, we can watch beautiful stary sky at night. The room is spacious in a cottage-like builiding. And the dinner we had at the restaurant was very good with local beer. Lovely cats were welcoming us. We want to come back, when taraveling to Hawaii.

The trip's purpose was to spend the 4th of July with family that lives in Hawaii, so the reason for getting a hotel was basically to have a place to sleep. I guess this property would be fine if you like to play golf (I'm not a golfer) since most of the folks running around in golf carts seem to be enjoying themselves, however, the rooms are small, dark (even when you turn the lights on) and very outdated. The hotel is screaming for a makeover. The television in our room was barely a 19" set, the beds are in need of a new mattress and the carpet looked dirty. The lanai had cracks in it and the sliding door took some effort to open and close (rails were in need of replacement)

I think the place was built in the 60's? So it has an old throw back feel about it. Room was clean and a place to sleep. Nothing fancy. Very nice staff. Overall, it's a peaceful place with lovely pool area (great for lounging, reading or enjoying the view), and it has an excellent restaurant! If you're a golf enthusiasts, seems like an excellent placefor golf like crazy! (Looked like a beautiful course with very few players out).

Property had overbooked, so we were going to be placed in a smoking room with 2 double beds instead of the non-smoking king we reserved. We are non-smokers, so this arrangement was not acceptable. Property did finally find another room for us-which turned out to be a non-smoking king room, like we reserved. The staff took over 2 hours to prepare this room for us. In the meantime, we waited in the lounge and had a couple cocktails and an appetizer, which were very tasty. When our room was ready, there was no offer from the staff to assist with our bags. We heard music all night for the first 3 nights, and finally on the 4th night called the front desk twice before security came to investigate-it was discovered the radio in the next room had been left on. We will not stay at this property again.

This was our first time in Hawaii, but I knew that I didn't want to stay amid the hustle and bustle of Waikiki which is why we chose Makaha. I am so glad we did! The peacefulness and tranquility of the resort made for a much more relaxing vacation and gave us a true picture of Hawaii, rather than the paved over versions in Honolulu. The staff were friendly and welcoming and more than happy to shuttle you back and forth to your room in a golf cart, no matter what the hour. I was surprised when we got there that the rooms are located in individual little fourplexes so there was none of that big hotel feel, but more like a little home of our own. We were in a large second floor room with a king bed and an amazing balcony. We were never disturbed by any noises from other guests and felt like we had the place to ourselves. Our extended family has been talking of a vacation together and that will be the ideal place to go because each family could have their own room in the fourplex and yet we would still be together. The one downfall of the resort is the fact that it is so far from other attractions. This isn't a problem if you have a rental car, because it is an easy drive and the highways are well signed. Without a rental car, you would miss the amazing sights on the north shore and the lush tropical beauty of the rest of the island. Of course, if you were just interested in golf, sun, quiet solitude then you could spend many a day in paradise at the Makaha Golf Resort without a worry!

It was very secluded and beautiful. Honestly, the way other travelers were treating the staff. The Makaha exceeded my expectations ten fold. It is a beautiful property and I couldn't have been treated better than the staff treated me. We went to the Makaha for some rest and relaxation after three nights in Waikiki doing the tourist thing and we had the most relaxing experience while there.

Makaha resort is indeed a "hidden gem" in the west. Secluded yet serene and the scenery is beautiful. We stayed 4 nights and a self-drive car is a must for tourists. Being practical, location is not as great for tourists as it takes about 40 minutes to get to Honolulu (city) during normal traffic condition. There is only one Highway (H1) to travel to other parts of the island which makes accessibility a challenge. During our stay, the western part of the island was hit by storm and suffered a electricity breakout for 48hours. Traffic lights were not working and 2 lanes in the highway were "closed" for repair. It took us 4 hours to get to Honolulu. Other than that unexpected experience, this resort is certainly worth visiting! Will definitely come back!

There is construction on the road to get back to the rest of the Island so we had to get up and leave by 8am every day to beat it as it runs 8:30-3. The resort is nice, quiet, friendly. The pool is really nice. The restaurant there is good with friendly staff and prices that are a little less than in Honolulu. The beaches in this area (west side of Oahu) have a lot of homeless living on them, but not too close to the resort. We got to see Gecko's, peacocks and their babies and mongoose which inhabit this area. The rooms are nice and clean. It was peaceful here.

Lovely resortand peaceful surroundings. It was further from places than we realized. Overall, we were happy with our stay. We just wished it wasn't as far from everything as it is.

this is modern hawaii and extremely local. just up from the surfing beach on the west side. many homeless on the beaches here living in tents but none up by the resort. nice golf course and good price. many local people whole families come and swim and party and play golf. the coffee shop is a little expensive but not as much as most hotels in hawaii. down the hill close is many fast food places as well as local fare such as loco moco--rice gravy and hamburger or spam on top.

My stay at the Makaha Hotel was one of my best trips I have taken in awhile. I arrived late Sunday night on Septenber 29, 2007 and the staff were exceptionally friendly and courteous. This hotel is set way iin off the road folks, but once you pull in, it is beautiful. The next day I did drive do some driving around. Yes folks there are homeless even in Hawaii but they are no where near this hotel.. The homless live off down several miles form the hotel and are off the roads, so don't concern yourself. I read several negative reviews reagarding the homelsss. Go to this hotel, it's a great place. It is quite a way out of the tourist attractions and you will have to do some driving if your there as a tourist. My advise is get a GPS to find your way around. Anyway if peace and quite you want this is the place and the beach is not far. I happen to find a perfect spot to just sit and watch the waves. Have fun and enjoy. the hotel also has lots of fun things to do also.

i'm a return guest, so i knEw what to expect. they added a lot more activities. they had a calendar of things to do, which was much better than last time because of the resorts secluded location. I LIKED THE CONVENIENT RENTAL OPTIONS AND EQUIPMENT CHECK OUT SERVICES. THE REPLACEMENT RESTAURANT HAD NICE FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT BUT NOT VERY GOOD FOOD. THEY NEED TO PROVIDE MORE "LOCAL TYPE" FOODS. (PLATE LUNCH STYLE)

Good size rooms, friendly staff. Nice golf resort. Remote location. Located about an hour's drive from Waikiki, the Makaha Resort is great if golf is what you are looking for. The hotel is adjacent to two golf courses. The hotel has a Polynesian theme, with top floor rooms having vaulted ceilings. While not situated near the ocean, beaches are just a 5-minute drive away.

Ants everywhere. We couldn't leave anything out, including clothes. The view was terriffic, but that was all. I knew there was a problem when the first thing that I saw was a can of insecticide in the room. Not a good place for families, as there are no activities other than golf. the restaurant was passable, but there were no other decent eateries close to the resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. Too isolated for us.

I and my boyfried stayed Makaha resort. I wanted stay in Wikiki first but he wanted to stay. I appreciate his decision. It was quiet and beautiful place. Great view of valley and ocean. I hear voices of birds in morning, smell of ocean, and just beautiful valley view. This resort beautifully, build in the valley, you do not see much man-made environment. We had to drive hours to get to city, but it is worth to stay in this resort. Staff were friendly and willing to fullfill my request. There were very pleasant. I will come back to this hotel when I visit Hawaii.

Peaceful setting surrounds the resort. The peacocks were fun to watch and the sunrises and sunsets were amazing. People need to be aware of the social/lifestyle on the leeward side of Oahu. If they want a fast pace this is not the place for them. I was skeptical of the location at first but it was an amazing stay. I travel 36 weeks of the year and few places stick out. Makaha resort will stick out in my memory for a long time. If back on the island of Oahu, this would be my first choice. This is a place that is peaceful. If you are looking for a lot of night life this is not the place but if you want to relax and have a family friendly stay, a romantic getaway or a quiet retreat, I would tell you to stay here!
