Excellent location but lots of building works around it give the impression of a rundown area. Rooms are old but comfortable. Breakfast was OK however give the restaurant a miss.

Excellent location. Breakfast adequate. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again.

I booked this hotel and checked out the same night I checked in. The room was okay, but what made me check out was the loud booming music that came through the walls. I don't know if the club was above, below or beside me, but the clerk, who barely spoke English claimed the hotel was full and refused to move me. Until I tried to check out, and then she offered another room. The check in was unfriendly, the check out even unfriendlier. I had to pay in advance for several nights due to Olympic security, and am still trying to get a refund...for nights I didn't even stay in!

Had read some scathing reviews of this hotel so I booked it with some trepidation. However, I believe the staff of the Magnificent International has worked very hard to improve the experience of staying there. The room was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the western breakfast buffet was excellent. The location of the hotel itself is not the best but if you want to stroll around the area, the Bund is not far away nor the Yu Gardens, the Shanghai Museum of Art and other shopping districts. The bed was hard for my western tastes but I think that's normal for the Chinese. The business center and fitness facility is a joke so if you need either, you might want to look elsewhere. Also, the traffic noise was very hard to take (bring earplugs for sleeping.) Overall, a very good experience if you need a place to sleep and a good breakfast to start off your day of walking around Shanghai. I will definitely stay there agian.

The hotel is located 15 min walking from PEople Square, though the places around the hotel show nothing. The food is very bad, the services- did not exist !

the hotel is in a short distance from the people's square, 10-15 minutes on walk, and the shanghai bicycle rental is just 5 min away which i can recommend to all who would like to discover more of shanghai, not just nanjing road... cleanliness would be good but the carpet seemed to be quite used/dirty. the available internet connection in the business room is quite slow, and 3 very slow computer can be used there but you cannot use it's usb ports either, so no chance to upload photos for example and no chance to use those pc-s for audio conversation in skype...you cannot use your own laptop either only if you buy the internet connection for a whole day into your room. anyway no problems, for this price, i think it is satisfiable :D

excellent location, good room but very old bathroom. Breakfast was fair and business centre very poor (non connecting internet). If you are just a traveller needing a bed to spend the night, certainly good value for money.

Internet access is possible at the room with prepared LAN cable but need to pay 38 RMB for one night. Location is great by using subway. Atmosphere around the hotel is traditional Chinese one but not many places for foreigners to eat. Breakfast at the hotel is acceptable.

The rooms we got were very nice and clean. In the vicinity of the hotel there is an interesting market area where you can buy allsorts of antiques and new stuff you never thought you needed. A block a way you find a small Starbucks cafe which is great since the hotel breakfast is a shame. Why do so many hotels thinkt that water with artificial colours and chemical taste equals pure, fresh fruit juices? Apart from the lousy breakfast the hotels only drawback is that Internet access is not free in the rooms. They do however offer free Internet in the business center. If they improve on the served breakfast and provide free Internet in the rooms this place would be a gem.

Short walk south of People's Square and subway. Clean, well-run hotel with good breakfast. Good cable TV and soft beds. Great value. Would stay again.

Business room - only 2 computers were working and none of them had possibility to use USB port. No printing possible. Very nice breakfast. Wonderful view from the room (8th floor).

The hotel was very nice and clean although it is situated in amongst the older part of town with local markets which are an eye opener, only a few blocks from the french connection and the shopping complex with plenty of food to choose from. The language barrier in shanghai was quite difficult but with the help of reception and having things written in chinese for us we managed ok.

The location of the hotel was rather good, i must admit. very close to the touristic shopping strip Huaihai Rd. The hotel staff deserved to be commended for their effort in making us feel at home. However, communicating isn't always easy, as most of them had rather poor command of English. Although the room is kept rather clean, I can't help but noticed that joinery units are poorly maintained and that the carpet looked uncleaned. The computer and internet access was almost a non-existance. This is not a place for honeymoon couples but rather a good start if you're thinking about back-packing. I wouldn't mind returning for another stay the next time i'm there.

- Not very good location, quite a distance away from Nanjing Road and Bund. - Construction works currently happening right in front of the hotel causes inconvenient. - Front desk staffs wasnt very helpful / friendly. - Bathroom WC couldnt flushed properly.

A simple hotel, very near to the local market. The Cheng Huang Temple area is about 15 min walk from the hotel. Value for money.

The hotel was great and had everything that I needed, though they do need to sort out their heating as my room was very cold. Otherwise it was a very enjoyable stay.

Excellent location. Front desk staff GREAT. Found out they can only do currency exchange in the afternoon. In the morning they need all their cash on hand for people checking out who need change. Bank 1 block away (ICBC) gave best rates for exchange.

Short walking distance to Peoples Square, Huaihai Rd. Interesting market next door specializing in Live Crickets (not for eating, for fighting).
