One of the loveliest hotels I have stayed in: no pretensions, we could be ourselves, staff attention discrete but attentive: thoroughly lovely! Facilities fab even if it did rain during our stay.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our 2nd wedding anniversary at the end of April 2008. The hotel was lovely - worth the 5 stars in my opinion! The location was great - only a 5-10 minute walk to the centre of Bath. The room was clean, tidy & spacious. The only small negatives were: The staff on reception were not particularly polite and seemed to rush you through. The room was quite warm, and we were not able to turn on the air conditioning....when checking-out I mentioned this to the man on reception who said that it wasn't broken, it was just that they don't turn on the air conditioning facility until later in the year! Our stay was at the end of April and it was a warm weekend! Other than this, we had a great stay and I'd recommend it for a relaxing weekend. If you decide not to use the hotel restaurant (which we decided not to after reading some negative reviews) then the Olive Tree in Bath is a good alternative.

Beautiful hotel... definitely recommend, especially if you can get it at a discount!Great hotel spa. Bedroom was spacious and clean, staff were accommodating, treatments were not cheap but were worth it. Would definitely go again for a treat

Macdonald Bath Spa - My experienceThis is my third time at the hotel and always been happy with everything provided. Rooms are lovely and restful with tasteful furnishings and the beds are really comfy. We ate in the Alfresco restaurant this time and we all enjoyed our meals - very reasonably priced too. I have used the spa before both for treatments and the leisure facilities - both are excellent. Staff are lovely and can't do enough for you.

Value for money as the stay was booked through late rooms, however the hotel is very over rated and does not live up to the profile on its website. While the rooms were clean and the bed very comfortable - the room and most of the hotel is dated and tired looking in places. There was no 'business' centre - unless you class one computer inside a very small 'booth' and no printer facility. Only one of the resturants ( the most expensive one) was open- so choice limited )

Our anniversary holidayWe have just had a truly wonderful time at the MacDonald Bath Spa Hotel. The staff were very honourable about refunding our first night due to my partner being too ill to make the journey. Once there (with health restored) we found the hotel itself is set in wonderful grounds with an array of unusual plants and trees. The spa facilities are fantastic with a good selection of rooms to refresh, freeze and heat oneself. The icing on the cake was the outside hydrotherapy pool. Although our room rates were reasonable the food and drink prices are pretty high. However, bearing in mind the type of place it is that's not a surprise. There are plenty of good places to eat in Bath that are near so that wasn't a problem. The staff were friendly and efficient, the hotel was elegant and spacious and I would be happy to recommend it. It was our first time away from our children and I'm glad we chose this place to relax in.

A top SPA experienceHow the other half live £3 a coke or a glass of wine for £12.50 it may make some people think twice. Given the price we got this SPA night through Late Rooms %29 of the full price the experience was fantastic. The spa facilities who all top class and really well thought out. You can go from ice shower to steam room to a number of sauna's in fifty steps. The staff were all friendly and professional, you moved they moved to help you. This is the kind of break if you need pampering and can afford it, go for it. The Spa is only a ten minute walk from the centre of Bath which makes going out for something different so easy. It catered for children but not really babies or a child up to five year old. Who by their rule would not be able to use anything including pools , jucuzzi etc. We will go back as we enjoyed so much.

- hotel environment is good, relaxing and beautiful- enjoy very much its spa facilities- value for money because we booked a night at GBP99 (without breakfast)- need to take a taxi to go the hotel (about 5 mins) from the Bath Spa railway

Dream birthday weekend! This was luxury at it's best! We decided not to have breakfast in the hotel as we felt it was a little expensive. Our room was available at 11am and we were given a suite with a 4 poster bed - very comfortable and romantic as it was my husband's birthday present to me (the hotel were not aware of this so perhaps we were just lucky!)The facilites were excellent too, although if we had not got up early in the morning to use them, it would have been very busy and crowded. We enjoyed our swim but I do feel it should be compulsory for users of the pool to shower and wear a swimming cap/hat (as I have experienced in other European hotels with pools) where hats are available to buy at the reception for a small cost. It did put me off when someone with waist length hair got into the pool without having a shower first! I know there is a sign requesting users to shower first but this is only on the changing room door to the pool, so perhaps it should be placed in several places around the leisure/spa facilities. The grounds and location were excellent too, it felt like a step back into history when walking in the grounds of the hotel. The staff were also very friendly and helpful without being over the top.It was definitely a weekend to remember!

Roomwas disappointing. more 3 to 4 star than 5 star.Bathroom was not 5 star as the bath was old and had been painted to cover up the marks.Bed linen was general poor. The hotel grounds and the rest of the hotel was fine and the food looked very good as were the spa facilities

Luxury Hotel wanted to stay longer..For a luxury night away this was perfect. Full price wouldn't have been but laterooms price made it affordable for us. Staff very helpful, bed massive and very comfy (I am fussy about beds), very clean and spacious. Spa, looked unreal - didn't use though

Macdonald Bath spaAlthough the location, building and grounds were beautiful and impressive, considering the hotel was classed as a five star, I felt that the room was rather shabby. I was most disappointed with the breakfast, which was hugely overpriced for what we received. The spa facilites however were very good.

Good HotelSuprisingly good value if you don't eat there (we didn't so don't know how much dinner would be). The Spa is well maintained and the staff and friendly and helpful. We felt our room a little dark. That is the only negative. The grounds are really plesant and it is east to walk into Bath city centre.

Lovely Spa facilitiesSpa facilities were lovely. Room was nicely decorated and very clean.Only issue was that there was just a blanket on the bed, we would have preferred a duvet. We had a late rooms deal of £99 which was very good value, however I think the normal price is too expensive.
