They cancelled our booking!We booked for two nights as part of a wedding and contacted the hotel a few days before to cancel the first night. Unfortunately they cancelled the wrong night, the hotel was full and so they ended up booking us into the Premier Lodge 3 miles away! This was very inconvenient for us so they offered us a chauffer to fery us between the two locations. At 1:30am the chauffer was no-where to be seen, we had to wait 50 minutes to get back to our "Premier Lodge"! We were offered no compensation at all. It was disgraceful. We actually saw one of our friend's rooms, to be honest it was dark, dingy and old, I would not pay more than £50 for a night at this hotel. (the wedding venue on the other hand was lovely!!! and the food/staff/locaiton was perfect for a wedding - however the drinks were extremely expensive... £6 for a glass of wine, £4.50 for a bottle of bud).

The bedroom floor had not been hoovered and there were bits of "stuff" all over the floor.The bedroom itself was "tired" and the bed quite uncomfortableI ordered two poached eggs for breakfast and gave up after waiting 25 minutues.

disappointingThe grounds were absolutely stunning and the surrounding area tranquil, however the hotel rooms were dated, no air conditioning in rooms and the menu was limited. It was too expensive for what it was.

A WonderFul Weekend - some gliches - but will return!A wonderful weekend at a beautiful hotel. Room was stunning - we stayed in the original house part. Nice (small) pool and good lesiure facilities. Lovely service from check in receptionist and barman. Poor service in the restaurant and on check out unfortunately. Our romantic dinner for two was rudely interrupted by the clattering of cups ready for breakfast service in the morning. Waited 15 minutes for port to accompany our cheese board (which was excellent) and was then charge £6.80 for two TINY glasses) Check out receptionist was rude with poor customer service skills. Our attempt for late check out was refused point blank and we were charged for items included in the booking. These were taken off without even an apology. Please dont see this as a negative review though I was VERY impressed with all other aspects and will be returning in future.... what a shame that some employees spoilt the 'romantic breakaway' idea!

I object to paying £5 tray levy for room service ! No mention of this on the room serice menu. This made a poor beefburger over £17. A rip off ! the food was poor, overcooked and dry.#Bathroom grouting was in need of cleaning or replacing.The morning receptionist was miserable

Value at discounted priceFor £59.50 room with breakfast this represented good value. However, if I had paid the full rate of £160 - £170, I would have been very disappointed. The room was in seriously need of a makeover, especially the bathroom. The wood panelling on the bath was falling off and was covered in water stains. The TV in the room was very old and poor reception on all channels. Many parts of the hotel are in need of refurbishment to bring it up to the standard one would expect of a country hotel. I would only stay at this hotel again if the price was right and that means a heavily discounted rate, as the full room rate is far too high for the quality of this hotel. £59.50 with breakfast is about the right price. Anymore than this, look for another option.

Good quality business type accomodation at a very good price. Well equipped gym will have to return to try the pool etc. Bar is a very relaxed area.

Empty restaurant yet drinks never came, food very expensive. TV in room was very poor quality reception. Still £60 b&b for 4*, it was better than a travel lodge!

Relaxing weekend in the countryBeautiful setting. Minor problems with room, light bulb missing. Remote control battery cover missing, had to hold batteries in. Bathroom toiletries in short supply but we asked for more and were given what we needed. Staff were lovely. Hotel has so much atmosphere.

Excellent value for moneyI stayed at the Kilhey for 2 nights during a wedding for some friends and found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The hotel was very comfortable with nice clean rooms and well maintained room, although the bed seemed a touch small. The facilities were superb, with free use of the pool, jacuzzi and sauna.

Visiting family in Wigan we found this a great place to stay. A lovely hotel with a very clean spacious well looked after room. Having a pool and steam/sauna was a big bonus and we made good use of these every morning. The weather was beautiful when we visited so spent most of the time out and about, Standish is only a mile or so away with some very good eating places with the Owls well worth a visit. Would def vist this hotel again.

General CommentsIn general the hotel was disappointing. Rooms were basic and whilst we had only paid £74 we expected more for our money! The rooms clearly were catering forsingle business travellers - 1 set of towels and toiletries. Therestuarant was extremely poor little choice, poor quality and expensive. The slug and snail trails were entertaining though!

Cheap, Cheerful but Great BreakfastWe stayed at this hotel for one night after getting married so it was just somewhere to get our heads down after a long day. The room was large and had a lovely, comfortable double bed but it was a little dated decor wise. The location is splendid, surrounded by lush trees and fields. The breakfast is buffet style and there was lots to choose from. Breakfast was a pleasure in the room overlooking the vast gardens.
