Spent a very comfortable night - possibly my best night's sleep in a hotel in a very long time. Good service with polite and friendly staff. Would definitely return if the opportunity arises.

Great room but shower was either red hot or very cold as setting it was difficult to get just right.

Had a fantastic welcome from a trainee. Location couldn't be more convenient when travelling by train from the NEC. It made a day at the NEC into a varied weekend in Birmingham. Highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful period hotel in centre of BirminghamA lovely place to stay if you like places with a bit of character (rather than some of the featureless boxes that masquerade as hotels these days). It's perhaps a little threadbare in places, but overall it's charming and relaxing. And I have to mention the sausages that come with breakfast - they're the best I've had in a long while!

We Had superb service from reception and the concierge. Thw welcome was genuine , the standards of accommodation and food excellent. I must mention N... C... who was particularly helpful and pleasant...a definate receptionist of the week and an asset to the company.

My Wedding DayWe stayed in room 426, which was quite nice, until on the day of our wedding we could not get the shower to work or the toilet to flush, ( I could not wash my). We reported this to reception nothing was done until my husband to be requested that we were moved. The lady was very sorry and we were moved to 228. We had three attempts to gain entry to the room. The lady who was cleaning let us in and was very apologetic the room was not ready, she was very nice and thanks to her we were able to leave our lugage in the room.

Burlington HotelThe room was ok for my one night stay and the hotel has lot character but is looking a little tired and in need of some money being spent on it's appearance and facilities.

Macdonald Burlington Hotel, Birmingham CentreJust minutes from Birmingham New Street Station with access through very upmarket shopping arcade. Bedrooms spacious, clean and beds / pillows very comfortable. Evening meal good with very pleasant staff and breakfast also good (excellent moist black pudding).

Seen better daysHotel location was good, and room was clean but decor was was fairly grubby. Accomodation nwas reasonable value but cost of food and drink excessive (£16 for a burger from room service).

Where is it?Odd title you might think? Not if you'd tried to find it! If you go by train, you shouldn't leave the station - instead you go through shops called the Palasades and then arrive in a street and it's tucked away even then. Trust me- I travel a lot and i'm ok on directions but I needed to call reception 4 times to arrive! That said they did offer to come to meet me (which I thought was really nice - but realised that this was because they know no normal person could find it alone! So it feels like you've just unlocked the Da Vinci Code by the time you arrive..... the hotel is very very old fashioned. Staff were nice enough, but the room was tired - though the bed was really comfortable and despite reviews on here about the showers being hopeless mine was terrific - real power shower. Fabulous location, great breakfast and cheap. They are the pluses. For me the minuses won the day!

Good quality room but hotel staff were indifferent , talking in a friendly way to guests must be an optional extra

HorribleI stayed at this hotel over the Easter Weekend, and can say that I wasn't impressed . The bathroom was almost falling apart the taps nearly came off in my hand. The worst part was waking up in the morning to sound of screaming birds. I guess it could have been worse I only paid 65 pounds for the room, I really don't know if the rooms are worth the full price of 166 pounds as advertised.

1 night at the BurlingtonHad trouble finding the hotel and on arrival it is not clear which floor reception is ( needs a sign in the lift ) but the hotel, room and staff were all great and had a nice stay.

April 2009This is my first choice hotel when working in Birmingham. It is very central, and within easy walking distance of the train station. The staff are friendy and helpful, and the hotel is clean and quiet.
