Overall a pleasant stay in a comfortable and well managed hotel. The food and service at dinner was fine, but the cooked breakfast, whilst acceptable, was a little disappointing.

Great hotel, comfortable room and good location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Take a car to visit surrounding areas with ease as location a bit remote.

Having noticed a few uncomplimentary reviews on the site (which I now understand referred to a time before the hotel came under new management), we were very pleasantly surprised to find the level of service at The Lugger excellent. Our room was very comfortable and clean and all the hotel's amenities (including the library and outside terraces) were very well thought out. We decided to have dinner in the restaurant and found the food and wine very good indeed, with some interesting flavours, and the service professional and friendly. This is all helped by the gorgeous sea views but the standard of service and the competence of the chef and the restaurant staff and the enthusiasm of the front of house staff did justice to their surroundings and mean that we will certainly return when we can.

The hotel was lovely and our room a very good standard and clean. The only thing was it was rather warm as the extractor in the bathroom was not working. Food at the restaurant was excellent with great viewsover the harbour. Service overall could have been a bit more attentative during the evening service but overall it was ok. Would go back!

This hotel is set in an idylic location in the very samll cove/ of Portloe. We had the attic room which was beautifully cosy, bright and well decorated. Would definitely stay again (particularly as there is no reception for mobile phones which added to the peaceful break!). A perfect all year round place to stay.

Stunning setting, right on the Portloe beach - watch the fishing boats go out as you have your breakfast. Very good food; mostly very good service, though the woman who booked us in was a little fierce - made up for by other staff though. Very pleasnat attic room, though rather low for my 6'3" husband - we were only told as we left that they could have moved us.But - the coast path walks, the complete absence of traffic noise (in fact the only sounds are natural ones), the welcoming 'Ship' pub up the road' and the total relaxation we had over our three days more than compensated for any minor quibbles. We'd go again (and ask for a non-attic room).

Hotel is in a lovely position, but has been taken over by a hotel chain and is now looking very tired. Evening food was very good, but breakfast was very poor, one waiter for the whole place and eggs the england cricket team could use. Reception was appalling, only spoken to when we were paying and then we were not asked if everything was ok, needs a good customer service manager to instill manners into most of the staff. There are much better places around with the same stunning scenery and beautiful location. Needs to be bought back to the standard of the old days.

The Lugger Hotel is at the mouth of a cove in one of the prettiest villages of the Roseland peninsula, Portloe. The hotel is exquisite – modern, light furnishings in the rooms including huge, wonderfully comfortable beds and sleek bathrooms as well as lots of appreciated extras such as complimentary bottled water, Cornish Spa products, towelling robes, fresh coffee and delicious apples! Our rooms came with spectacular views and sounds of the sea and surrounding steep sided cliffs. We ate our delicious breakfast of fresh kippers in the Hotel’s restaurant with spectacular views of the sea. Staff were welcoming and unobtrusive. I really have never stayed at such a wonderful hotel combining a unique location, excellent food, superb service and value for money. The friendly local pub and local coastal walks are also not to be missed.

Overall the hotel was most pleasant but did not reflect the standard advertised. The hotel markets itself as a high class and luxury venue but unfortunately it failed to fulfil its promise and the service fell far short of what I would expect from a hotel of the advertised standard. As a result the hotel was not really value for money and there are far better places to stay. The best aspect of this hotel is its location which is truly spectacular and a world away from the hustle and the bustle. The location is very peaceful and you can even lie in bed listening to the waves lap on the shore. There are plenty of walks from the hotel and the hotel even provides wellies for guests to use. The rooms are clean and freshly decorated with huge comfortable beds and fluffy duvets and pillows. However the hotel did not replenish our refreshments (tea/coffee etc) and on the second day had run out of milk. The worst aspect of the hotel was breakfast. We arrived in the restuarant for breakfast and we abruptly told to find any table that was set for breakfast. Since all the tables were set it was difficult to work out which ones were breakfast - as it happens these were concealed around a corner. As we sat down at an 'unset table' we were rudely told 'no I said a table set for breakfast'. We then had to wait for a long time before we were asked whether we would like tea or coffee and toast and given a breakfast menu. It then took just as long for our order to be taken and nearly 30 mins before our breakfast was served. This happened again on the next morning too. The waiting staff were not very polite, the cutlery and glasses were dirty and the food took too long to serve. However it is worth noting that dinner at the hotel was exquisite but this was reflective of the price. The restuarant serves an excellent choice of freshly caught fish and a selection of wines which I would highly recommend.
