The Hotel Lombardy was not anything I expected from the virtual review that was available--very misleading in the spaciousness of those extremely small areas. The hotel was clean, but bathroom is too anitquated with a window above the tub area; there was not a micro wave in the room and that is standard even in Best Western hotels. The staff was constantly cleaning something in the entrance area and were always there to hail a taxi or assist with baggage. I don't think I would stay there again.

The hotel had an elevator operator who was quite helpful. They charged a huge parking fee that was never disclosed until checkout. The positive experience that we enjoyed at the hotel was eliminated by the unfriendly service at checkout. The hotel did not disclose the $33.00 per day parking fee and refused any relief of the fee for my family. I watched as the same checkout had reduced the fee by $20.00 for another family.

Quaint and very old with an original lift with cage operated by staff. Beautiful old hotel with great service and lovely rooms. Located short walk to White House and slightly longer walk to Georgetown. Would definitely stay again.

April 8 2009 ' I unfortunatley booked a double double for 3 large people. The rooms here are very small. The bathroom is so small only one person can fit in at any time. The shower water went from too hot to too cold took 5 min just for me to get in. Our dirty towels ended up all dry and back in the bathroom the next day. No shampoo or conditioner replaced after first use. The floor was not vacuumed each day. There was not evan a microwave oven in the kitchenette. So I called Travelocity to see if they could put me in a differant hotel after the first night of seven. They said that they could not do anything about my problem. I contacted the hotel manager and they said they had a suite that would be bigger but I would have to pay 50.00 extra per night. I had already prepaid over $ ***a night four months ago. I searched other hotels today and could stay at the Ritz for less than that..: ( If you or anyone in your party is a BIG person dont stay here.....

I had no expectations coming into Hotel Lombardy, aside from location. It was a great area to be if you want to site see or be close to some nice buildings. The only bad thing about the hotel was the elevator, while at first it was nice to have service where you didn't have to press buttons, if you were on a floor level you will have to wait a while to get the elevator. It seemed as if the bell hops were everywhere besides near the elevator. However, the beds were excellent, I wish I could have taken it home with me. Our toliet also had some difficult but they were so very prompt about fixing it!

Historic difference from the chain hotels, great location. Came from a conference hotel in Virginia for a little sightseeing.

If you love charming and European, this is it. Maid service was erratic. If you¿re into Hiltons, health clubs and sports bars, this is not it. If you¿re into charming, friendly, and individual European, this is your cup of tea.

We arrived at Hotel Lombardy after a very long trip from Australia to be greeted by a very friendly staff member. As our room was available early, the staff member was very accommodating and allowed us to access the room earlier than the check in time. The staff in general were very friendly and accommodating with any requests, and our room was great. Very clean, spacious and very tastefully decorated. I would definitely stay at Hotel Lombardy Washington DC again and would recommend it to any one visiting Washingtom DC.

Very convenient. Clean comfortable rooms. One block from GW University. Very reasonable price for area. Elevator a bit problematic if you are in a hurry.

Beautiful older hotel. A few problems but taken care of by staff immediately. Toilet overflowed onto floor once, housekeeping cleaned it up immediately. ALMOST went over twice more but housekeeping came up and adjusted something in the tank and it was OK after that. Shower was WONDERFUL, water pressure better than home! A couple blocks from subway so VERY easy to get around the city and to and from Reagan airport. No pool, but was able to go to Washington Plaza Hotel with pass and use their pool. Only blocks from White House, lots to see and do in the area. Local eateries were close, Starbucks, McDonald's, FedEx Kinko around the corner for any printing needed, CVS Rx a block away, it was overall a great experience. When we hit the bed at night after being out sightseeing all day, the beds were made up, clean, comfortable. We brought sodas and sandwich food and put in the refrigerator in the kitchenette. Only bad thing was no microwave so we got to eat cold sandwiches but at least our soda was ALSO cold, which was good since it was 95 every day we were there. The air conditioning in the room kept us very comfortable. Internet in the room worked so I was VERY happy. Having to wait for the operator-run elevator was a minor irritant, but ONLY because we are so used to 'get-it-now' mentality. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly and pointed us in the right direction when we had questions about the area. We would stay at Hotel Lombardy again on our next trip to Washington DC. It was just perfect for us.

Staff was very professional, and friendly. The bartender (attitude problem) and bar prices 10.50 for mixed drink. Great place to run away to.... convenient to downtown DC...Room was well decorated with king size bed (six pillows!), funky elevator, great staff...Bar overpriced,$10.50 for mixed drink....

We put up visiting family members here in mid-March 2009. The lobby is tiny but elegant. Theroom was small but well appointed and very comfortable, with a small kitchen/breakfast nook and amenities such as a hair dryer, iron, refrigerator/freezer, and coffee maker. It was also provided with heating/air conditioning and an overhead fan, allowing for minute adjustments to room comfort. The daily Washington Post was delivered to our door every morning. The elevators are small and manually operated, not automatic; but we never had more than a brief wait. Our room was *right* next to the elevator shaft; elevator sounds were occasionally audible but generally not obtrusive. The front desk was chronically understaffed, but the rest of the hotel staff were very attentive, courteous, and multilingual (we heard English, Spanish, and French). We did not have occasion to use the hotel restaurant or the exercise room. The location is excellent: four long blocks to the White House complex, three blocks to George Washington University, walking distance (for the healthy) to Washington's West End and Georgetown; also a short walk to two different Metro (subway) stations, and it's easy to find taxis (which are now on a meter system, replacing D.C.'s old, long-standing, and sometimes indecipherable zone map). Highly recommended.

Took my grandson here for his 11th birthday and it was the best trip of his life as he told me. The location is great to the memorials and the start of the mall area. TGIF Fridays is accross the street and the metro nearby. The room was beautifully done and the beds most welcome after a long hot day. The room has a mini bar and the prices were not out of line. The staff was always welcoming and helpful and would stay again and recommend it to anyone as a very nice and quiet hotel. Vintage hotels rock what with the size of the rooms and the decorator touches, we hated to leave and plan on bringing the sister back in the future. Listen to your grandmother and don't be misled by the lack of more stars...

Loved the charm of the hotel especially the elevator. Some folks complained about the wait for the elevator but have to say, we never waited more then 1 minute for a ride to the top floor. The stay was exceptional and everyone was very cordial. The room had a kitchenette which came in very handy. My only complaint, the housekeeping staff did not always replace the drinking glasses each day so we had to make a couple trips down to pick up some replacements. However, every night they came by and handed out free chocolates so that made up for the missing glasses, by far! A fair selection of restaurants in the area. everything from italian, to indian to british pub so you should be able to find something to satisfy your taste.

The Lombardy is a quaint hotel made from a 1920s era apartment building. Its rooms are small, but entirely adequate for a stay that involves a lot of going out. Location is pretty good; it's only four blocks to a good Metro stop that can get you anywhere worth going in DC. Lots of decent restaurants in the neighborhood, too. Enjoy the elevator with a live operator!

My daughter and I loved the "old" charm of this hotel. The elevator was unique and different. We have never seen an elevator that is only operated by a bell hop. We loved everything about The Lombardy. The employees were so friendly and helpful. We would definately stay again if we travel to DC.

The hotel is very nice and quaint. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our only problem was the water temperature in the shower, it was either really hot or really cold, but I am sure it has something to do with the age of the building. I would still stay there again as I like this kind of atmosphere. We walked everywhere and also used the metro that was only a few blocks away.

If you like going back 50 years and reliving older accomodations, with power outlets falling out of the walls, and promised Internet not working, old elevators which require elevator operators that expect tips every time you need to ride the elevator then you will love this place.
