This eco-hotel was fully renovated in 2006 and consists of 40 bungalows and villas. The hotel provides a bar, a restaurant and room and laundry services. Lomas del Volcan is a cozy hotel situated on a mountainside within the property of a 150 hectare farm. The hotel sits at the foot of the majestic Arenal Volcano, just 4 km from La Fortuna. They offer 35 spacious, rustic bungalows, finely finished. Each bungalow includes two terraces, from which you may enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano. Also, you will enjoy the great variety of plants and animals surrounding you in the tropical forest.

The bungalows here are great, especially for the price. They were extremely clean and well kept air conditioned, and were almost bug free (quite a feat for Costa Rica hotels!). The view was amazing- could not beat it. It seemed like many hotels in the region would have obstructions to the view, but since this resort is placed back 1km from the road, you really felt like you were secluded in the jungle. You could hear the howler monkeys (gave me a wake up call every morning!) and you could see the volcano from the bed. The restaurant was very good as well (we ate breakfast and lunch). Our only complaint (and it did not affect our wonderful stay) was that the beds were no less than terrible. And we are pretty easy going people about that sort of thing. But really, you could pay $200 or more per night for another hotel in the region and have less wonderful views, and whether or not the place would have as much character, privacy, cleanliness and space as this place would be questionable. So despite the awful beds, we would stay again. Keep yourself exhausted with all the tours in the region (or the harrowing drive in from Tamarindo) and you will sleep a little better.

Cabins were large and clean. The wildlife was incredible. The Volcano is right outside your back door. We saw Toucans flying overhead daily. Howler monkees every morning. The breakfast buffet is fresh and tasty, with an omelet station. The dinner buffet prices were extremely inexpensive and the food was good. The cabin road needs some grading though. What a great place to stay! What a great view!
