Double Room let downThe outside and ground floor rooms of this Hotel were very good. Food and service exceptional however the room itself was very small, dark and overlooked the kitchens. We booked the hotel as it was opposite the beach but would have been better in the town. We accept that you cannot all have a sea view but the room was much too small and dark and the bed rock hard. Luckily we were only staying the one night as my back was affected so it would have been impossible to stay another night. Very disappointed.

A really nice hotel to stay at. Lovely family room overlooking the sea. Allowing dogs a bonus. Grandson aged 8 thought he was dreaming and that it was fantastic!

Short Stay. 2 Nights end of May 09We booked a short notice two night stay. The hotel has obviously had some recent renovation to the public areas and our room was in good decorative order. Our En suite consisted of a shower with no bath.Reception staff were friendly and helpful, puting right a small problem very quickly. We stayed on a B&B basis and did not take lunch or Dinner in the hotel. The choice at breakfast was fairly wide and the breakfasts ordered were good; waiting staff were also efficient and friendly. As were the Bar Staff. The clientele covered a wide age range but with the majority being 65+.The hotel is within easy level walking distance ( about a mile and a quarter) of the harbour and town, but regular local buses stopped right outside for both Torquay and Paignton.

Our Five day Break. We had a very enjoyable stay, all the Staff were friendly and most helpful. The food was excellent and well served. The Hotel is ideally situated for a peaceful stay, within an easy and walkable distance to Torquay Promenade, also access to a delightful nature walk to the vilage of Cockington.

Confortable but noisy.Comfortable hotel in a wonderful position right on the sea. I had a front room which was noisy from the passing traffic. Staff helpful. Food was good, but I thought the other diners had an air quiet desperation. Lift is old and I understand is being replaced

Not as good as expected! You get what you pay for.The hotel have good and poor rooms available. So if you go for a cheap room, don't expecttoo much.

Booked into restaurant which was busy due to a large conference booking. Got put in the darkest corner & I asked for an alternate table. Much fuss as 'someone has sat there for 3 nights'. Eventually allowed to sit where I could read and the tables where rearranged in brusque fashion. Why I do not know as no-one sat at the other tables the time I was there, of course. Very off putting though.Other staff fine & helpful.

Clean and tidy, friendly staff, very plesant place to stay.

Hotel is in desperate need of updating, beer flat, 70's styling, generally felt like stuck in a time warp. However the food was very good both quality and value and the room rate was reasonable. If you book a single room, expect to get a very single room, cosy is an understatement.

we were particularly impressed with the general courtesy and efficiency of the staff. Service in the restaurant was excellent, of a standard not often encountered today and in keeping with the elegance of the decor. The menu for dinner and breakfast was also extremly good and the food was lovely.

Travelling with a large group of my family I found the hotel to be very poor value for money. My single room was very small even smaller than the average box room in an average house. The rooms were very dated. My families rooms all varied a great deal but all apart from one was of a low standard with rooms not being very clean and in need of some tender loving care or some serious cash being spent on renovations to bring the facilites up to date. The evening entertainment was also pretty poor with no atmosphere in the hotel bar, maybe a little background music would lighten the mood . As a family who normally travel abroad I feel we will not be taking short breaks in this country for the simple fact for the amount of money we spent as a group we could of travelled somewhere with the sunshine and better facilites for the same costs.

Having read other peoples' reviews my friend and I didn't really know what to expect. What we found was a good quality hotel, not in the first flush of youth perhaps but warm, comfortable, friendly and with very good quality food. The only downside was that the lift was out of order and as I have mobility problems this was difficult. I should have asked for a ground floor room to make sure my needs were met though, so can't blame the hotel. We each had single rooms that were perfectly fine for what we wanted and they were clean and comfortable with views over the bay. I would certainly stay there again.

Private party on the night resulted in the bar area being packed, children running between tables etc. Dircted to a \"quiet room\" for residents only - this was down a flight of stairs and was quite disgusting and dirty. Not impressed and will not be returning.

Nice, simple hotel. Good parking, close to both Torquay and Paignton. Friendly helpful staff. Have stayed here twice now, and will definitely stay again should the need arise.

Although I was displeased at my stay it is safe to say that the hotel is in a great position and I when I returned later that day to pick up my cell phone found the bar area very relaxingI booked my room and advised that I as I was driving down from Surrey I would be arriving late I arrived at 11.20 to find the doors locked after 10 minutes of ringing the bell a guest rather worse for wear departing from the bar saw me and said that he would get someone to unlock the door and returned stating that it would be two minutes a further 10 minutes arrived whilst I stood in near zero temperatures before the porter unlocked the door and gave the keys to my room which was passable but as I was only staying a few hours it was clean and the bed was ok the shower lacked hot water having had to wait several minutes to get warm, I got up at 5.30 and put the shower on ran it for 15 minutes without warming and had to resort to having a freezing shower which is not the way to start a hard days work I left the hotel very annoyed and suffering from hypothermia leaving my phone on the bed which then meant I had to detour to Torquay from Birmingham on my way back to Surrey In fairness the staff looked after the phone for me. returning and seeing the hotel in a different light as the evening was beautiful made me wish I had had more time to have stayed and enjoyed breakfast maybe the boiler would have been working by then and possibly I would have remembered my phone!

This has got to be the worst hotel i have stayed in for years. Bed were old and uncomfortable, carpet smelt, bathroom was grotty. My friend rang reception from Australia and asked to be put through to my room and was kept on hold for 10mins. She rang at around 12.30 1am in the morning so not like they would be busy.Went to Breakfast at 7.45 and was made sit at a table the furthest away from the beautiful view. When asked if I could move to a window was told all tables were reserved. Interestingly only 2 other people in the restaurant at that time in the morning!

An excellant location and very nice friendly staff, we only had breakfast as we were going to see friends while we were in that area, but this was very good.

The food was very poor, unable to eat main course, all areas where dirty and general feeling of being grubby.
