Description:
Originally built in 1831 as the hunting lodge and family retreat of the Duke of Sutherland, Lilleshall Hall is now better known as Lilleshall National Sports Centre. Set in quite spectacular and secluded surroundings in the heart of Shropshire's glorious countryside, Lilleshall is now a flagship residential training complex and an award winning Centre of Excellence. The Centre has been sympathetically adapted over the years to provide a truely unique range of sporting, conference and accommodation facilities and services. Chapters Restaurant, situated within the oak panelled former Library of the magnificent Lilleshall Hall, provides an atmospheric fine dining experience for its guests and is an ideal venue for private dinning and small functions.
Transportation:
Leave M54 at junction 3 and take the A41 North, signposted to Whitchurch and Newport. The National Sports Centre is signposted from the A41. The Centre entrance is signposted opposite Rubens Nursing Home. The Centre complex is approached from the entrance at the end of a 2 mile private drive.

'Budget' accommodationI ended up renting both the cheaper rooms and one of the slightly more expensive twins. Whereas the cheaper rooms were tiny, functional, but tiny, the slightly more expensive room was huge. It had a large window along two 'walls' (the room wasin a Y shape) which overlooked some of the gardens, and would be something I'd expect in a 2 or 3* hotel, not budget accommodation. For an extra £3.Obviously, if you're doing anything at the sports centre it's a no-brainer to stay there. And despite all the 'healthy eating' messages, they still serve bacon and sausages at breakfast ;).

Overnight stayHave stayed here once before in my dim and distant past. The accommodation is designed for sports teams using the facilities at Lilleshall and is a bit like a dorm. The rooms are spacious but basic with en-suite. The location is superb, set in fantastic grounds with countryside all around although possibly a bit isolated for some. Newport is close and has the usual pubs and small shops. There is also a large Waitrose which is handy. Be aware that the canteen/restaurant closes early and breakfast doesn't start until 0730. There is a bar that does light snacks. The breakfast caters for sports people and is excellent with loads of choice. Also, be aware that the reception doesn't take AMEX when paying for the room.A good cheap option.

very basic accomodationIf you are attending an archery competition or other sporting event it offers a quiet room.Would not recommend for a holiday-stay. The estate is lovely to visit but the accomodation is very basic.Bathroom-lighting is very dim. No telephone in the room (did request one but not available, only for people who run courses or events). If you want dinner you have to pre-book in advance, not available on the day. We had to leave the estate to find dinner. You have to queue-up for breakfast.Customer-service was fine.

It is cheap and cheerful accommodation! no frills and a bit of a way out so a taxi is expensive but if you need to be in Lilleshall then a great place to stay. Food is great too. The rooms are basic as you would expect but the surrounds are beautiful.

Lilleshall National Sports Centrebooked a basic value room @ £35 so the room was basic - but it was still ensuite. Breakfast was excellent. Food in the dining room was also very good and very reasonably priced. I attend conferences in Telford twice a year and will certainly look to Lilleshall for accommodation again. All in all I felt this was excellent value.

Stay where the 1966 England football team trained.A very interesting place to stay, surrounded by top sports people. Wonderful long treelined driveway makes you feel you are going to stay in a stately home. Friendly welcome. Room rather like student accommodation with added facilities of TV, tea/coffee, complimentary toiletries etc. Comfortable beds, room very warm. Paintwork a little shabby but who cares about that? Lovely grounds for walking. Excellent breakfast, eat as much as you like. Play guess the sports personality while you eat. We have stayed here twice now and if in the area would go back again.

For a comfort room it was very basic (as I expected).. I struggled to sleep on the small single bed with low quality (and uncomfortable) bed clothes.Breakfast was good value for money..Maybe my opinion was tainted by a bad nights sleep... Location (a 2 mile drive from the road!) was a bit of a pain too.Staff were helpful and courteous.

We stayed here as I was participating in an Archery tournament the next day which was on-site so the location was perfect. I have stayed here before. The accomodation exactly what you'd expect for the price (we paid £55 per night for a twin with breakfast) you get a basic but comfortable room with a shower over the bath, a few cheap toiletries and towels provided. The accomodation is likened to student accomodation (because really, that's what it was designed for!) but as long as you're prepared for that it's ok. There was ample car parking. It was a shame the building we were in had no lift which made getting all our luggage to the room a bit tricky but not impossible. Our room was really spacious and had a lovely view over the gardens at the back. Breakfast is served in the canteen and feels a bit like school dinners, but the quality of food is excellent...there was porridge, toast, 3 types of eggs, beans, tomato, sausage, bacon, yoghurt, muffins, fruit, coffee and fruit juice on offer which I thought was a pretty good selection. There is a bar on site which opes in the early evening. The breakfast is served rather early 7:30 - 8:30 the day we were there and check-out was by 9:30. I think if you take the accomdation for what it is you will not be dissapointed, i'd say it's simmilar or posibly slightly better than a travellodge or premier inn and cheaper than a B&B.

This is set in lovely grounds, but the rooms really let it down, Everywhere needs painting and updating and i know that most people felt this way it felt like a bostle, but it was clean so couldn't fault that and reception manager was really nice, but it has got to have been the most worse condition room i have ever stayed in sorry but that really needs to improve.

Rooms were in poor decorative state, with knobs missing from drawers, rubbish from previous guests on top of wardrobe and desk, and tatty bathroom. Given the overall beauty of the Lilleshall grounds, it was disappointing to see the poor quality of the accommodation offered. Breakfast was canteen-style, and decent.

Food in the Chapters restaurant was exceptional and we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the accommodation particularly in view of the price. This is Premier Lodge price for something a whole lot better. The staff were extremely friendly too and the view from the bedroom window was wonderful.

This is where TEAM GB train so the surroundings are beautiful. Great value for money and I would definitely reccomend if you need somewhere to stay if you are attending an event in the area. Ladies there is no hairdryer in the room though so don't forget to pack one

The rooms in this hotel are VERY basic, to say it's a national sports centre where top class athletes stay, it's almost an insult to expect them to stay in these rooms. Unless of course they have other, more upmarket rooms where the athletes stay. The rooms are very much like university accomodation or those in a hostel. The bathroom is the worst, with awful lino flooring, and the types of shower you had at school. I suppose you get what you pay for. The only reason we stayed at this \"hotel\" is due to it's close location to where the V festival is held, and also the fact that it is cheap. It's certainly better than a tent anyway! On a positive note, the grounds are very pleasant and its a quiet and peaceful place if that's what you're looking for. The breakfast is ridiculously early, 7.30-8.30am which surprisingly we didn't manage to get up for considering we stayed over a weekend. So no comment on the food, but it smelt nice! Check out was also ridiculously early, 9.30am on Monday, which is \"hand over day\" whatever that means. Otherwise if you check out on a Sunday you don't have to leave until 2.00pm! Overall the hotel served the purpose we booked it for. It is rather difficult to find if you follow Sat Nav directions which took us to the old entrance which is now no more than a dirt track. However the lady on the phone at reception was very helpful and gave very good directions from our location. To conclude I definitely would not recommend this hotel if you're after a pleasant weekend, but if you just need somewhere to crash for the night then it does the job.

Had initial problems checking into the hotel since they did not have any record of my Laterooms booking, and they were already fully booked. However, after a two hour wait they managed to create an additional room for me by bringing back into service one that had been set aside for a different purpose, so full marks for sorting out the problem in an efficient and imaginative way. Beautiful grounds, and an extensive range of sporting activities available.

The hotel was inexpensive and basic which was perfect for what I required. I would liken it to a university campus.

The food always reminds me of school. The same sort of canteen set-up and mass quality. Rooms are functional but beds not especially comfortable.

Breakfast start is to late at 7:30,. Hotel appears to a grand place but the rooms at £40 per night are in a poor quality 1970's building that has never seen good days, cost should be sub £20
