Stayed in refurbished room, furniture looks new. Only complaint is that shower water pressure inconsistent and weak. There was occasional a foul smell in the bathroom that seems to come from the sewage. Would recommend for a no-frills good sleep.

The hotel and apartments occupy 2 locations - about 200m apart. The hotel is very quaint; and the apartments are still being renovated. The one we stayed in had just been done - and was excellent: simple, tasteful, clean. And the location is very good - just next to the Cataract Gorge, the highlight of Launceston.

Carpark wasn't well signed, and was small and awkward to manouveur in. Staff neglected to explain that the room entry door had an antique latch lock, so I wasted 10 minutes looking like an idiot trying to open the door! No ramp access to rooms, so had to drag luggage up three flights of stairs. Shower took about 10 minutes to heat up. Data cable for dialup internet was only 20cm long and located on the floor. Despite these annoying issues, the room itself was clean, modern and well appointed.

We enjoyed our stay here. We were upgraded and found the facilities excellent. Our only complaint was there were no sharp knives which we required for cooking. Otherwise our stay was most pleasant.

I think for multiple night stays it would be good to top up consumables like - real milk, tea, etc each day. And as the room doesn't need a full clean (towels and sheets dont need to be changed) it would be nice to receive a complementary newspaper (of choice).

We have rated cleanlinessa nd facilities as bad but really just poor. Has character but old and run down. @ story appartment but old and poor standard but if you just want to sleep in it it is ok.

Room was very clean and tidy and looked as though it had been recently refurbished. The bathroom and shower were very modern and the views over the lake were lovely. Breakfast at the owls nest restaurant was basic but satisfying. Only complaint would be the size of the room but overall it was excellent value for money.

Very nice character site, good rooms and value, fans but no air conditioning, rarely needed in Tasmania, no lock on toilet/bathroom door.

Loved staying at the Penny Royal. It's really old- foot thick walls and heavy beams but all new mod cons - even fresh milk! Fantastic location and view. Staff very friendly.

The renovated rooms were well presented but adjoining rooms was a bad situation with noisy neighbours that talked loudly to 2:00am. No help from management.

Excellent venue and good location in Launceston. A bit tricky finding the right road to take but once there most satisfactory.

Sad to see the old water wheel no longer working or the windmill. At 78 years of age , I found the stairs a bit much to carry bags to Room 249 ? Next time I must remember to ask for a ground floor room. That was my fault when booking.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment at Penny Royal World. They have just be refurbished. Excellent facilities, walking distance to local attractions. Restaurant was exceptional and the staff were fantastic with our 5 year old son. Will go back again next year. Staff very helpful and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.

The exterior is a delightful step back in time - we loved it! Our room was very spacious with modern furnishings and the queen size bed was unbelievably comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel.
