Great location and the free parking was outstanding. Rooms were a little warm even with the ceiling fan. Also update the TV. The hotel was great and the location make everything close and convenient. The pool area was nice and the breakfast by the pool was great.

The hotel was very good and homey. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The staff at the hotel was very accomodating. The hotel itself was in the heart of the French Quarter and within walking distance of all attractions.

We went to NO for a weekend getaway. Have not been since Katrina. We were pleasently suprised at how well the downtown/French Quarter faired. Nice Hotel if you want to do a lot of French Quarter shopping. A little distance from Riverwalk and Harrahs but we made use of the streetcar and it was great. Had a great time in one of my favorite cities again. Look forward to returning soon.

If you are touring the city of NO and not just the quarter, then you can't do any better than Le Richilieu. The free self-parking is a wonderful unique amenity. The rooms are adequate and clean, the staff was extremely knowledgeable and provided great recs for dinner/drinks/entertainment. I would definitely stay here again. If you want to party on Bourbon your entire trip, then you could stay closer, but if you are over 30 and want to actually dine/shop/visit unique places, you can't get any better in this price range.

Location, free onside parking, value, cleanliness, comfort. Nothing. I took my husband to new Orleans for his 74th birthday. It was his first trip. This hotel was perfect in every way. The room was large, attractive, we had French doors out to a large balcony overlooking the quarter. It is in a great location, close to Jackson Square and lots of restaurants. We will always stay here when visiting New Orleans. Also, I met the owner who lives at the hotel and he was so gracious. We just fell in love with this place.

I found Le Richelieu on a online travel website about a month before my recent visit to New Orleans. What a great hotel! First of all, Le Richelieu has free parking. In speaking with people around the city, it is not unheard of for hotels in the French Quarter to charge up to $50 a day for parking. I arrived in New Orleans at 11 A.M. and even though check-in wasn't until 3 P.M., the front desk allowed me to park my car in the lot and begin my visit. The staff at Le Richelieu was very pleasant and attentive to all our needs. As evidence, on our last night in the Quarter, we came back to our room to find the air conditioning making a loud noise and not working properly. The front desk was alerted and a maintenance man quickly responded to the problem and fixed it within minutes. As an added bonus, our room came with a balcony overlooking Chartres and Barracks Streets. It was so nice to come back to the hotel after a long day and just hang out on the balcony, taking in the sights and smells of the French Quarter. The room was excellent. The beds were comfortable. The shower was fantastic. The room was clean and decorated quite nicely (contrary to some reviews I read before my visit). Safety was no problem. The French Quarter is jammed with tourists and even though Le Richelieu is on the eastern edge of the neighborhood (toward Esplande), I never felt unsafe at any time. Just an overall great hotel experience. I'm looking forward to staying at Le Richelieu on my next visit to New Orleans and I recommend it to anyone looking for a very reseaonably priced, clean, and safe hotel in the French Quarter!

In 1994 when driving accross the U.S. I happened upon this wonderful hotel. I felt like I was in a place that was ""Very French Quarter"" and very comfortable. It still is today and the value is enormous. The hotel is pretty, comfortable rooms and a wonderful helpful staff. Close to everything to make your adventure happy and memorable.

The hotel service people were very polite, and very friendly, which is a big reason I can't completely bash the hotel. That being said the room my wife and I recieved was no better than the rooms at the cheaper hotels just down the street. We paid about three times as much to stay here, because we were under the impression that the rooms were nice. We didn't even have A/C or heat. There were wall fans, which had broken nobs. The room looked like an old apartment, that desperately needed an update. We have stayed at several hotels with much nicer rooms on the same street, for almost a third of what this hotel cost. The free parking was a plus, but definetely not worth the overpriced room considering that the other hotels had parking for only $25 a night.

This hotel is in a great location near the French Market and other desirable French Quarter areas, which makes it terribly unfortunate that the owner(s) have not updated this place in 30 years. The rooms had televisions older than I am (47) and the bathrooms were 1970 nightmares. The layout of the room we stayed in was odd with a walk-in closet between the bathroom and the bedroom area. Cleanliness was also not a strong point here. I opened one of the nightstand drawers to look for a phone book and discovered a chewing gum wrapper and dust and grime in the bottom of the drawer. The carpet in the room looked like it had not been cleaned in a very long time. The hotel rooms were equipped with some strange looking registers that let heating or cooling into the room. We only had control, and not much of that, of how much air we let come into the room. The areas in front of the elevators on every floor had tacky parquet flooring that was in poor condition. The Lobby had some beautiful plaster columns and other features that need some TLC. The positives were most of the staff went out of their way to be helpful. The hotel has a small bar/restaurant and room service is available. The pool area looked nice but it was too cool when we visited to try it out. A renovation to bring this hotel into this century would make it a jewel in the French Quarter, instead of a dirty, dingy unmemorable hotel.

Le Richelieu is located on the edge of the French Quarter, very convenient. It is a great value for the price and location and I would def stay there again. Of course, the rooms are on the smaller side and the fixtures are old- but all to be expected in an historic hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and accomodating for an early check-in.

Very much like the French Quarter in design and location. It had class. Too much cigarette smoking and odor of smoking was prevalent throughout. Folks were very friendly. Parking is convenient and was free. Was definitely not a chain hotel and was more a family owned hotel with people who seemed to take pride in everything from front desk to maids.

Visit New Orleans twice a year for past 10 years. Found Hotel Provincial several years ago and that has been our hotel of choice. On this 4 day trip the Provincial was booked and based on ratings chose to stay at the Le Richelieu. It will now be our hotel of choice. (Ironically it's 2 blocks from the Provincial). Large clean room, walking distance to everything in French Quarter and 3 blocks from Trolly stop for exploring the rest of New Orleans. Full service front desk where you can buy tours, and Visitor passes for Trolly and buses. Has a small bar (not used) and an area for breakfest. Only use of of food service was coffee the first morning and if you enjoy good coffee go to a coffee house right around the corner. While room was advertised as view of French Quarter it was on 4th floor and window was a small dormer which did look out on French Quarter when standing right in front of small window. Many rooms did have balconys on 2 & 3rd floors. Only problem I can see in the room (besides to much space to lose things in) was the antiquated heat/cooling system. If you don't read directions you would never get it to work. Requires turning valves at bottom of unit and you have to do it on hands and knees. Overall great hotel in French Quarter and we have stayed at many.

Excellent parking; great customer service; very old hotel, but fantastic for the weekend. Did have some trouble with maids starting too early when people changed the door sign for us, but otherwise a lovely experience. I would highly recommend for the price.

Great Location, free parking, friendly, anduncomplicated stay. They asked to leave the key at check-in, but didn't ask every time for my name to make sure that nobody else gets it.

I only stayed at this hotel for a night a few days a go. I had a nice time. A very quiet & clean room awaited me on the 3rd floor after just getting off a 500 mile / 8 hour road trip to the crescent city from D/FW. Huge King Size bed. FREE parking. Free Wi-Fi. The only thing negative was the shower water pressure, but it wasn't so bad you couldn't wash yourself. I just prefer a little more than the old pipes could offer. A few blocks from the French Market allowed me a great base camp to come and go as I pleased.

The French Quarter atmosphere and being on the fringe of the French Quarter. The air conditioning unit was finicky and need to pick up room service dishes from hall. Most of the front desk was helpful and really went out of their way to accommodate us with our room and tour requests. Easy use of the safe deposit box for our valuable. Pool side dining-good atmosphere. Loved the free parking. Need to probably update the rooms soon.
