Quaint, super tiny rooms (even for SF). Only one elevator, very slow. Can't beat the location and the price was okay, the service was nice too.

Everything we needed was there. Room was a little smaller than expected, continental breakfast didn't go late enough. Amenities were good, decor was stately, rooms a little smaller than expected, continental breakfast only last until 9, not good for a relaxing traveler, but would recommend this hotel to anyone; families, business traveler, leisure tourist.

it was a very good experience. we will go back.

My stay at the Larkspur hotel was excellent. The hotel itself is small and perhaps that is the reason the staff was very friendly, helpful and most accomodating. They offered a free continental breakfast and complimentary wine in the evening. My room was also small, but very clean and well appointed. The price was reasonable for San Francisco and was only a short 2 block walk to Union Square. I would give this hotel a definite thumbs up.

This was my 2nd visit to this hotel but the 1st since the remodel and name change. The location is very nearly perfect - walking distance to the financial district, chinatown and the Powell cable car line. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff is very friendly and helpful at every turn. My girlfriend has already asked to stay there again next year.

I really enjoyed staying at Larkspur Hotel! Perfect location, close to everything-Union Square, China Town, Embarcadero, a lot of nice restaurants around. The service was excellent; the staff in the hotel was very friendly and helpful. When I go to San Francisco again, I would love to stay in a same hotel.

We have traveled to San Francisco many times and have stayed in different hotels every time. We loved this one! It is steps from the cable car line, union square, Lori's diner is on the corner, Dotties True Blue Cafe a few blocks away, banking and shopping around the corner. Easy to get to using the BART, and all forms of public transportation. The room was a quaint victorian style full of charm. We had the corner suite on the top floor with an excellent view of the intersection. The staff were more than helpful and very friendly. Remodeling on the upper suites was almost complete and redecorating is also almost finished. It was clean and taken care of. We would definitely stay here again and again.

Stayed only one night due to a late flight from Atlanta. We were on our way to Carmel.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Larkspur, the last week of January 2009, to celebrate our honeymoon . We stayed for an entire week, M-F, and couldn't have chosen a better hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles, and such pleasant faces. During the week, we had a bottle of wine and chocolates sent to our room with a thank-you card, AND a bottle of champagne sent to our room with a card congratulating us on our wedding. The entire staff was so helpful in giving directions. I felt like I was on Cheers, b/c they always knew who my husband and I were, and always greeted us by name! The rooms were the size as to be expected in San Francisco, and the beds were soooo comfortable. The linens were thick, and allowed us to sleep like a king and queen. There is a wine hour every night for about an hour. One of the most helpful things for our trip was the channel on the TV that gave info about the city. It was helpful in choosing restaurants and activities to do. It's right across the street from a Walgreens, in close range to many restaurants (definetly try Lefty O'douls!) and shopping is all around. Downside is parking is $27 a day for self parking. It's not included in the room rate, and the garage is around the corner. All in all, this was a great hotel, with an excellent staff and if I return to SFO I will stay here again!

If you are traveling to San Francisco to tour the city and sight see, then this hotel is definitely worth the stay. It is centrally located and well priced. The rooms are small but perfect if you?re planning to just sleep and get ready in it. The staff is very kind and helpful. There is cont. breakfast every morning and hour in the evenings. This hotel is also located 1 block from the cable car line on Powell and 2 blocks from the bus station. I highly recommend using the public transportation. It is very easy to get around the city and very cheap. The BART station is about 5 blocks from the hotel so there is no need to take a cab from the airport. Just hop on the BART. We had an awesome stay at the Cartwright and will most definitely stay here again. Oh yeah, there was some renovations going on during our stay but the noise didn't start till 9:30 am and was done by 5 pm. If you are out of your room during these hours you won't even know there is construction going on.

The hotel is conveniently located to many shops and dining opportunities with the gates of Chinatown 3 blocks away. We found the easiest way around was to buy the 3 (or 7) day pass for the Muni that covers the Cable cars (next to impossible on the weekends), the busses and the street cars. There is very few street vendors compared to the other areas we visited, so you are not always being asked to buy things, however like much of the rest of the city, there is no shortage of people begging for money. The beds are very comfortable and rooms are fairly quiet. There is no restaurant or dining in the hotel, however they have complimentary wine tasting in the evenings. They told us they will be getting their license in the next couple of weeks, so they will open the bar and the wine tastings till be going away. There is a diner next door and a 24 hour Walgreen's across the street. The staff is friendly and knowledgable about the area, especially the transportation options. The wireless internet only seems to work in the Lobby area and they also provide 2 computers and a printer for guest use.

This was our first visit to San Francisco to see our son, so I wasn't sure about location or about hotels. I selected this based on location. I must say the location is perfect, not far from everything. The hotel personnel could not have been nicer, very helpful and friendly. They are remodeling during the week, but what they are doing, it's going to be even nicer, they are putting a fireplace in and making it handicapped accessible. We would definitely go back to this hotel on our next visit. We had the parlor suite with 4 adults and 1 child and we had plenty of room. Very nice hotel. Recommend it highly.

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. It is a bargain, especially considering the location. It's in an older building, so the hallways, staircases and rooms can be a little narrow, but that adds to the charm. Our room had a very comfortable bed with plenty of pillows, a down comforter, flat screen TV, coffee pot, internet access, hair dryer, etc. There are full-length mirrors on the closet and bathroom door (lots of extra storage in the closet) and a CD player in the radio. We did not go but there are evening wine tastings. Close to Union Square and Chinatown -- we loved being able to walk everywhere. Our room was very quiet and dark - the only sound being the bell on the streetcar, which made it all the more romantic! We will definitely stay here again.

I used to require fancy, now I just want a clean room with a comfortble bed. Excellent on both counts! This is an old historic S.F. hotel, room's small but with 10' ceiling. When in S.F. I don't stay in the room unless sleeping, and the bed was every bit as comfy as the St. Francis, which would have cost * a night vs. * at the Larkspur. Travel tip, if you are on a budget, take BART from SFO to Powell St. station, 4 block walk cost you *, as opposed to taxi from the airport which will run you over *. Spend the money you save on hotel and taxi for eating at fine S.F. restaurants. The Larkspur is a blend of old and new, heavy wooden doors with skeleton keyholes have been upgraded to electronic card locks, elegant bath soaps & shampoos, small bath, hair dryer, coffee maker, iron & board in closet, terrycloth bathrobe, flatscreen t.v., excellent location for theaters, Union sq. & Chinatown. Nice staff.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They took just a moment to explain the available evening wine and snack and breakfast for the next morning and who to ask if we needed anything at all. The room was much much smaller than the average motel, but probably average for older city hotels and was actually sufficient. Everything about the room seemed clean and well, efficient. There is a great deal of remodeling going on at the hotel though this didn't seem to cause any problems during our short stay. The building is a block off the Trolley line which is good and bad. The location is excellent for getting around the city, but a bit noisy as the building is quite old.Overall, the stay was great.

The hotel location is great and convenient but, our guests have some bad experience on the first day. We originally booked for a queen size room but this hotel personnel cannot find our booking when we checked in the first day. The personnel seems very inexperienced and said he is new and there was a queen size room but not set up yet. So, at the end, they put us in a VERY tiny room.tiny bed and the door was half broken. Even though they switched us to a king size room the day after ...I just thought their booking system needs some MAJOR improvement since we already paid in full in advance and cannot get the room we requested? that's just very bad!!

The hotel is like a boutique style. It is cute and clean. Lobby on first and second floor very nice. However, our room was very small. Thank goodness we are not large people. Not much room between bed and wall. Bathroom was very small. Two of us could not fit into it together. Bed was very comfortable. Room did not have climate control-it was sometimes cold in room. Did not have to walk for a restaurant, bar, or shops.

We stayed here for 3 days and loved it!The location is great for the price!Right next to Powell Street(shopping and dining)very easy to hail cabs, just a few mins walk to the bart station(5-10mins).The staffs were ok although 1 wasn't that friendly,I didn't get her name.We arrived at 2pm last May 23 and the room wasn't ready.I called to inform them 2 months prior that we're going to check-in in advance.Although we get to leave our luggage and they'll take care of it.The room is clean, loved their shampoo and conditioner by Lather. It's pretty quiet at night, although you'll still hear cars passing by when you open the window. The space is small, just enough room for the bed and a little space to walk by going to the bathroom, but it's ok.They have a big closet space. We'll definitely come back and stay here again.Loved it! =)

Stayed at the Larkspur for the first time on a Friday night, to see the City at Christmas. The front desk and support staff were wonderful, and willing to help in every way. The hotel is at a very convenient location, close to Union Square and next to the Powell St. cable car lines. We had a great stay, and would recommend it highly.
