Good value for moneyGood clean value for money accomodation. Handily situated 5 minutes walk from waverley station and princess street. Car parking spaces available on windsor street for which you have to pay by meter between 08.30-17.30. Staff friendly and helpfull.

Good B&B, excellent location, nice staff, basic but good

cheap yes, but cheerful?Total lack of human contact made this very impersonal experience. The room was basic but reasonably clean, although not very private (large ground level windows facing main entrance). Was woken at 5.30 by people rather noisily opening and then slamming the front door. There wasn't really anywhere to sit to relax (one very upright chair), and the wardrobe doors were locked. Lack of breakfast was inconvenient, although clearly stated at the time of booking. A cheap way to stay in town, although I'd have been sorely disappointed to have stumped up any more than the LateRooms "special" price. You pays your money, you takes your choice.

Very pleased with the standard of accomodation, although the fact that the room was in a separate lower ground floor flat led to some confusion. I would happily stay here again though, it was very well priced and within easy reach of the city centre.

An okay hotelThe hotel was overall okay. It didnt have whatever it promised not to have like breakfast and daily cleaning facility, which is fair and fine. Overall the hotel room we stayed in was good except that the heating in the room was very poor.

A very clean, comfortable and centrally located establishment

A pin code was sent via email to enter through front door, very odd. What if we hadn't checked our email? The room was very cold, we were asked our arrival time so they could have pre-heated the room.Advertised the internet but definately did not have it, was given a broken USB stick which also did not work. Was in a good location.

We found the Lantern easily thanks to the directions we had been emailed. The guesthouse is in an excellent location just off Leith Walk, close to lots of restaurants and cafes and only a short walk from Harvey Nicks, Princes St etc.Our room was warm and clean and the decor was very tasteful, nice polished floorboards! As promised there were tea- and coffee-making facilities and it was nice to see Fairtrade products.I would recommend the Lantern to anyone looking for a quiet, central base for their stay in Edinburgh.

Very cold room as in the basement but very convenient within the city centre. Don't expected the best in this hotel but a good stop over if you want to enjoy the visit in Edimburgh

I would highly recommend this accomodation if you can strike a good deal. It is within walking distance from the centre of Edinburgh, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.

The Lantern Guest House was a fantastic find.Just ten minutes from Waverly train station, it is central to all aspects of the city although is in a quiet area. The owners had sent an email, in plenty of time, providing codes for the doors to allow entry - no fuss. The guest house itself is a lovely period property and thought has been given to furniture to 'fit in'. It was clean and tidy with everything needed for an overnight. At £60 for three adults (1 night) it is also very reasonably priced within the capital city. The guest house does not provide breakfast however this is not an issue as being so central there is an abundance of cafes etc. We chose the Newsroom which was also excellent. Good choices, good food and great service.I have already recommended the Lantern Guest House to friends and family, and will definitely book again.

Excellent location with Edinburgh centre in walking distance (<15 min) and close to a bus stop with buses going every minute to take you all over town. The room was nice and clean, the only minor point being that they are located in the basement of the building - but since you don't spend a lot of time in your room anyway it was not a problem. Good and flexibly service at a modest price. I'd stay here again next time around.

An excellent location, friently staff and a huge room - typically Edinburgh - room slept 3 but could easily have accommodated 5 - 2 couples (riendly of course) plus one other. Small but adequate bathroom, but convenient for Princess Street, Royal Mile - everything. would certainly recommend to friends and visit again.

Only a 10-15 minute walk from Princes St./Waverley Station the Lantern is well positioned for getting into town and is just a 15 minute bus ride from Leith, which is well worth a visit during your stay. The Lantern was spotless and Michiel very friendly. A bath in the room would have been nice to soothe aching feet but the shower was excellent. Would stay again if the same deal was available (£95 for 2 nights room only). Highly recommended.

We had a lovely room, tastefully decorated, and very clean. We had a comfortable stay. The guesthouse is within walking distance to the Royal Mile and has many restaurants close by. It's also walking distance from the train station.

My room was in a house about 30 yards up the street - the owners own home. Pleasant folk, nice big room. They don't do breakfast which would be good, but there are plenty of cafes up the street.
