The Inn is located on High Petergate, just next to the Bootham Bar inside the city walls. The Minster can be used as a good landmark by which to find the Lamb and Lion Inn. From the M1 - At junction 32, take the M18 link to A1 North. At junction 2 take the A1 North. Continue until the sign marked York A64. Travel East on the A64. Take the A1237 (York North and Thirsk). Continue for 5 miles following sign to Thirsk (A19). At the roundabout that intersects the A19, turn right (signposted York Centre A19). Continue for approximately 2 miles until you reach the city walls. At the final set of traffic lights a large stone archway can been seen, known as Bootham Bar. The Lamb and Lion Inn is located on the inside of the city walls. Please be aware that High Petergate is pedestrianised between the hours of 11am and 4pm. Please drive to the Inn first where luggage can be unloaded and your car parking permit can be collected. Please ensure parking is reserved at the time of reservation. To collect your permit you may stop either outside the Bootham Bar archway or at the other end of High Petergate, near the Minster. Our staff will then direct you to the Marygate Car Park with your permit.

Personnel was great!! Quaint room & cool snugs in a perfect location. Good choice of beers and winesFood tip: Breakfast was cold by the time it got to us. Warming the plates might help realizing that this puts a load on the person maneuvering the passageways. Instant coffee and choice of teabags was horrible while there's a great shop next door with classy choices of both. Tourist info was just around the corner and very helpful with day trips ,maps, etc. Good coffee cafe close and very relaxing sitting under the York Minster.

Lamb and Lion, York.Lamb and Lion is a nice bar with some charm, serving lovelly beers. Our room was good, the en-suit bathroom was fitted to a nice standard. The time we stayed (July 09) was particularly muggy and our room was roadside... sleeping with the wondow open became noisey, esspecially in the early morning and this room would have benefitted from Air conditioning! We also experienced the Lamb and Lion at a time when they were unable to take credit/debit card payments, this meant we needed to find the cash to pay. Wasn't an issue... Just not very convinient. All in all... expected more for the money but was a pleasent stay in a good location in york.

Overnight stay in YorkI booked the Lamb and Lion Inn with a little trepidation having read previous reviews but was intrigued at the description of the place. Got a good late deal on a deluxe double room so gave it a go. I'm glad we did because it is a very nice place to stay but I would say maybe for a few nights only. The location is good, having travelled by train, it is easily walkable from the train station. All staff we saw were friendly and helpful. We had fabulous weather and the walk round the walls of York from right outside the Inn was lovely. The Inn's beer garden was very pleasant. Our room was perfectly large enough (though a deluxe as stated) and the power shower fantastic! Bed, very comfy and the room was nicely decorated. Yes, there was some noise in the morning but it's a busy place central York! We ate out but had breakfast in the morning which consisted of choice of cereal and jams, then more or less whatever you wanted (within reason!) cooked to order and toast. I had poached eggs, my husband full english. We have had better but also a lot worse. All in all we had a very pleasant stay in York and I would not hesitate to stay at The Lamb and Lion again.

This is a hidden gem!We thoroughly enjoyed our small, simple room above the pub. The staff members were friendly and helpful. The pub grub is excellent and the beer tasty. The location is unbeatable - inside the old city walls.

Our room was excellent: fantastic comfy bed, power shower, very clean and lovely decor and furnishings. The views are also excellent if you like looking out on to old, medieval streets as the hotel is located just inside the city wall and along the street from the Minster. The Lamb and Lion is also an atmospheric pub in its bar area - very dark, lit by candlelight, lots of little snugs - which gives it an old world feel. The same is true of its sister pub, the Guy Fawkes Inn, which has some excellent beers :)It can be noisy late at night, but I put this down to a local tit who likes to drive his racing car around York town centre very fast at 2 in the morning. My only criticism is breakfast. This takes place in the sister pub - the Guy Fawkes Inn - which is along the road just past the Minster - a nice experience on a Sunday morning to walk to breakfast with the sound of bell ringing. However, this pub - atmospheric by night - is a rather depressing place to eat breakfast. The waitresses lack professionalism and (how can I describe it?): class. You can hear them gossiping in the kitchen about their adventures the previous evening; they have a poor memory and had to keep asking us for what we had ordered; and on one morning, because we and another couple were the last diners, they started clearing the crockery from other tables (very, very loudly) and spraying everything with disinfectant (not pleasant when you are trying to eat). It was like Fawlty Towers without the comedy. The full english breakfast is substantial and the ingredients are very good, but it is ruined by the fact that everything is tepid (apart from the scolding plates) - evidently cooked hours earlier. Such a shame. We would definitely consider the Lamb and Lion again, but probably skip the breakfast experience.

We are regular visitors to York and found this hotel to be very handy for the center.Rooms were clean and warm.service was great too.If you are going to York and dont like to be too far awat from all the amenities then this hotel/inn is ideal. We would stay again without a doubt.

Very well situated for exploring York on foot, the Inn offered a friendly welcome and comfortable, characterful accommodation. Customers need to be at least reasonably fit to manage the stairs, which seem narrow and steep. The \"continental breakfast\" was a disappointment; I did not take up the advice to buy a cooked breakfast in a nearby establishment. I'd be happy to use the Inn myself, again.

Some reviews here made me a little nervous of what we would find but really this was a pleasant place to stay and very well situated. Friendly, helpful staff. Someone complained about the continental breakfast but if you know that's what you will get you can't complain. It was fine. If you are not too limber you might find the stairs to the bedrooms too steep and narrow. Oh, and they had Black Sheep on tap and there are 3 more real ale pubs just yards away.

Continental breakfast was apparently included in price, however no information was given at check in regarding breakfast times or location. As a guest felt reluctant to ask about this.Hotel itself was cosy with snugs and hidden rooms dotted around, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine. Rooms were individually and beautifully decorated and extremely clean. I would definately stay again.

The room was comfortable and full of character although there was a lot of street noise and I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone expecting peace and quiet.

I was a bit worried about staying at the Lamb and Lion having read the reviews on the site. However I was plesantly surprised. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was lovely quaint yet modern and beautifully decorated and the breakfast which is included in the price of a room was sufficient to fill up two busy tourists until lunchtime, but didn't offer a huge amount of choice, but there is the option of going to the sister hotel (which is less than 100m away) for a cooked breakfast for an extra fee.The location is great and the ambience is relaxed and welcoming. The only downsides to the hotel relate to the age of the building and are only to be expected. If you get a room at the front of the hotel I would recommend ear plugs as the old building isn't up to our modern sound proofing expectations. The other issue is that the rooms are all accessible only by stairs so not so great for people with mobility issues. That said however I would recommend it to anyone and we will definitely be staying there again!

The Lamb and Lion was very well situated for our visit to York and it was a wonderful building with clean rooms which although being called Petite were large enough for a couple. We found everything adequate with the exception of the Car Parking which was hit and miss. The building had been renovated and poor quality fittings had been used and they were already showing signs of distress. The breakfast service was poor and we had to keep asking for glasses, butter, orange etc. Things seem to be rationed. On paying we found we could not use a Card and we all felt that the Hotel and his sister, where we ate, were in dire straits.

We stayed here during their refurbishment from 4 high petergate to the lamb and lion. It was a busy time for them but they made us feel welcome and valued. The room was fantastic, looked out onto high petergate and the decor was spot on. Everything about the hotel was great from the choice of beers to the comfyness of the bed. Great location! The french manager (chris?) was more than hospitable, and the Aussie guy that checked us in, stopped us in the street next day for a quick chat! Loved it. Nothin was too much trouble. They recommended a great restaurant that does the best steaks! Me and my husband wish them the best luck with the future and thank them for a perfect stay.
