I chose to check into this hotel The Lalit in New Delhi simply because I saw the picture of its lobby in its website. And when I actually landed up here I realized the lobby wasn’t the only good looking place in the hotel. The rooms were awesome and the general décor of the hotel were aesthetic (those ancient bronze statues in the lobby rally looked nice). Nothing was overdone but there was enough to show style. And the food was very good too. Especially at Baluchi, the Indian restaurant. I didn’t check their Chinese or Continental restaurants, since I don’t eat that stuff but everything else was very nice. And it’s located at such a perfect place that almost every place in Delhi is not too far away. And Delhi’s famous Metro is also just a few meters away making it great to travel to lengthy distances in quick time without any traffic hassles. Really a classic luxury hotel

In our recent trip to Delhi and Mumbai, by a coincidence we ended up staying in hotels from the same chain---The Lalit. In Mumbai it has a tie up with Intercontinental but in Delhi it is without the intercontinental tag. But it made no difference to the hotel’s style. The Lalit Delhi was even more stylish than Mumbai’s hotel and it had a nice green cover around, very soothing to the eyes. We were on the higher floors so we got a nice view of the city from that fabulous room. We were born here in India but had moved to New York almost 25 years back. The hotel’s concentration in providing stylish comfort was impressive. Great food, luxurious rooms and a very quick service. And it was so near the tube station called Metro and centrally located which made it easier to move around the city. We went to Mumbai first and then to Delhi. And I think I liked The Lalit New Delhi just a bit better because of the location.

When senior members of a hotel can forget designations and chip in to help a normal guest, that means the hotel really cares for the guests. My recent experience at The Lalit New Delhi proved this. Now I am a steady non veg eater but I stick to veg stuff on Tuesdays. During my visit to New Delhi and The Lalit since it was leisure trip I just forgot it all. So enjoying as I was my stay at the hotel with spa and good food, I just went ahead and ordered a non-veg dish. And it was a Tuesday. And then I remembered. But the order had already been placed. I told so to the steward who did not quite know how to react since apparently the dish was already ready. I think one gentleman passing past my table heard the conversation and politely asked if he could help. I explained the matter admitting that it was actually my fault. He smiled and asked the steward to cancel the non veg order and give me my fresh order. I thanked him. I was later told that he was a vice president of the hotel. Now that’s what I call good hospitality. Too bad I did not know his name. But thanks to The Lalit, for really keeping up to its claim of limitless hospitality. Ritu

Since my hometown Chandigarh is very near Delhi and I have relatives in the Capital in spite of having made several trips to Delhi have never had to stay in a hotel. But in January I just had to get to a hotel since my relatives were traveling. And after checking into The Lalit for two days I am faced with a huge problem as to how do I tell my relatives that from hereon I am going to stay in this hotel and not with them. Such was the impact that The Lalit had on me. Plush interiors, spacious rooms, excellent food outlets and other facilities and everything one could look forward to. What also impressed me was the care taken in minute details in every facility. You didn’t have to tell the staff anything, they already knew what to do. Absolutely great two days I had---in eating at various restaurants in the hotel or even visiting their spa. I would rate it as one of the best ever. uday veer

THE ROOMS WITH A VIEW AT THE LALIT Let’s face it Mumbai residents have a problem with anything that is not Mumbai. And we generally find faults in anything Delhi. But I was totally smitten by Hotel The Lalit that I checked into recently on a private visit to the city. I have always been very selective about the décor in a hotel since these days five star hotels tend to overdo it all. But At the Lalit New Delhi, the décor looked just perfect. Right from the lobby which was imposing and grand without being cluttered up, to the huge rooms that gave a person living in them plenty of space. Luxury hotels have habit of cramming up so much inside the room that it becomes irritating. And while the club rooms at The Lalit had ever amenity possible, there still appeared to be plenty of space. That huge LCD along with a DVD player appeared just the right size for a room of this dimension as was the ample supply of coffee and tea sachets next to the coffee/tea maker. And a rather dramatically placed bathroom with its glass walls. I actually sat in the hot water bathtub in that cold Delhi winter morning and watched the LCD. Great experience of the kind I have never had before. The food was good just as it is in the group’s Mumbai hotel, especially the traditional North West frontier food at Baluchi. Really good stay I had. Would love to be back.

Given the price, I was expecting a hotel on par with, say, a Radisson in the U.S. However, this hotel was the nicest, and one of the cheapest, hotels in our trip around India. The bed was superb--super-soft, clean linens, great pillows, and a postupedic mattress. I think my fiance's favorite part of the hotel room, though, was the 42" plasma flat screen that could be seen and through the glass walls of the bathroom and heard from specially-mounted speakers. The bathroom was amazing. It has a large tub, perfect for a bubble bath after a long day traveling to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, and the shower had two different heads for a waterfall or a massage effect. Breakfast in the club room was only so-so. However, the breakfast served on the main floor was huge. They had egg stands, fruit stands, pastries, cereals. You name it, they had it.

The first word that comes into your mind when you swing into the glass doors is wow. What a lobby! The Lalit New Delhi in its earlier avatar Intercontinental the Grand had a somewhat darkish lobby. But now the lobby is amazing. That waterfall gently falling by the side and those antique bronze statues, really gave it a fancy look. I was prepared to accept that this was all the fancy stuff I would get. But I was wrong. The rooms were even better. Large, roomy, with a glass walled bathroom and a massive plasma TV. I had a great time staying at The Lalit New Delhi for four days. Good food specially The Baluchi food, very interesting bar (thank God it was big and spacious). Oh and by the way don’t miss Rejuve, their spa which is really something. Good work hotel staff too. Thanks for making it a good experience for me and my wife.

We were checked into an unrefurbished room despite booking a luxury room at the highest rate. The AC did not work. The water in the shower was yellow. Sewerage poured out of the drains and soaked our carpets and belongings. We were constantly disturbed by hammering and refurb work. The hotel moved us to a refurbished room. The drains were still blocked and the shower flooded the room. A plumber turned up and plunged the drains - this simply pushed faeces up the drain over the floor. We complained but got nowhere. The pool was closed. The 24hr restaurant actually doesn't serve between meals. I am a scientist so I had the water analysed on returning to the US - it contains high levels of iron and lead as well as faecal matter and contained entamoeba - this would make you very ill.

I was travelling with my wife, half business, half freetime. We had another hotel first, then we came to this hotel. It was like coming to Heaven! Large rooms, the shower water was not odouring crap as it did in the other hotel. The bath room had separate shower area and separate bath tub. It was hard work to find a middle priced good hotel in Delhi, but thanks to good buy price our stay was really value for money (appr. 260). You can find hotels at 30 in the budget area (do not even think!), but the hotels in better locations start normally from 400 to 1000. The rooms were silent and the beds were very excellent. You won't be disappointed in the quality of this hotel.

EVERYTHING FROM THE RECEPTION AREA TO THE ROOMS LOOK CHEAP AND OLD.MY ROOM SMELLED BAD. THE BATHROOM DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE T.V. WASCRACKING NOISE. AT the bar, you can wait forever until somebody finally pays attention. If you want to shop in the Hotel stores, you will find aggressive and pushy salespeople who try to sell the most ugly things at incredible prices. Use your cell phone to call or riskcrazy high hotel rates such as USD 40 for 3 minutes to the USA. And avoid the minibar, unless you are ready to pay USD 30 for a miniature bottle of Vodka. The hotel overchargesabout everything, and if you look for a great Indian experience, you will be very frustrated.

I stayed for nearly three weeks. The pool and gym are great; kept my weight down which might have gone up because of the great food. I enjoyed the lobby pastry shop; wonderful. Staff are delightful! Close proximity to Connaught Place is good (lots of adventure there).
