I chose to stay at La Mariposa because of the reviews posted on this site, and after my return I felt compelled to put in my two cents. What a location! The hotel is situated on a hill above the Pacific Ocean offering 180 degree views; sunrise to sunset the views are spectacular, the best in the area. The staff was courteous and helpful, helping us arrange transportation for all of the adventures we hadn't pre-booked. Our room had an ocean view and a private balcony overlooking the ocean and Manuel Antonio National Park. It was neat and cleaned every day following our daily outings. We we within 2min walking distance from the only ATM around and many restaurants and boutiques, very practical. The complimentary breakfast was indulgent and the coffee memorable. On top of all of it: monkeys, iguanas, butterflies, birds, etc. I can't think of any reason someone wouldn't be pleased in chosing La Mariposa. When I told our tour guides where we were staying they all had the same response; "Good choice!"

My husband and I wanted a relaxing vacation in someplace beautiful - we weren't disappointed at the Hotel La Mariposa. We stayed there 6 days - mostly lounging at the beautiful pool, viewing one beautiful sunset after another. The staff were wonderful - polite and attentive. We had an ocean view room in the main hotel on the fourth floor and the view of Manuel Antonio and the ocean was simply awesome- better than we ever imagined it would be. We ate at the hotel restaurant several evenings - the food and service were wonderful and the prices were comparable to a good restaurant in the States - very reasonable. The breakfast buffet was really wonderful- we skipped lunch several days since we were still full from breakfast. The pool bar closes around 10 each evening - late enough for a night cap, but not too late so the hotel was very peaceful. We'd highly recommend La Mariposa to our friends - and if we travel back to CR, we'd definitely stay there again.

Hotel La Mariposa was exactly what we wanted out of Costa Rica. We paid extra for the room to have an ocean view when we made the reservation, and it was totally worth it. It was separate from the rest of the building, but that meant we could see the sunrise from our room and the sunset from the pool! The pool was incredible, and the bar service at the pool/patio was excellent. The bar closes at 10, but there are other bars within walking distance. The staff was polite, hard working, and spoke excellent English. As for the food, the breakfast was great (fresh fruit, beans and rice, eggs, etc), as was the one meal we had in the hotel. The cafe across the street was great. For activities, they had arrangements with tours in the area and a concieige that arranged them for you. Horseback riding and zip line tours are a must. If you want to go to the beach, or the nearby Manual Antonio rain forest, there is a free bus that the hotel runs. Or you can have a healthy walk. The hotel is halfway between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, so there are a lot of things to do in the area. If you like tourist trap bars and restaurants, there are plenty, but there is also a good number of places that are more low-key and serve what the Ticos eat. Have the Mariposa Dream fruit cocktail when you get there! We will be back!

Staff was excellent. The view was outstanding from our room and the restaurant and pool. Restaurant was a litte expensive but we enjoyed the included breakfast there. We stayed ten days and it would have been nice to have a TV just to get some news. We stayed on the third floor, which is accessed up a spiral staircase, no elevator. So if you have health problems climbing stairs let them know you need a lower room. Overall a beautiful experience.

The front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. The scenery was incredible, iguanas and monkeys visible from the balcony. The swimming pools, and views of the Pacific and islands were incedible. The food was great. If I had any negative comment, the finishes may have been a tad outdated.

We can not say enough about this hotel. The staff was fantastic. Even helping with our bags in pouring down rain. The room was spectacular. We had a deluxe ocean view and that is all we saw from the room. Water, rain forrest and the amazing sunset. The pool was fantastic and the food is wonderful. We are planning on another trip to Costa Rica and Manual Antonio is definitely on our itinerary because of the is hotel. Kapi Kapi is a restaurant very close to the hotel. 3-5 minute walk. GO, run, do not walk. This place is amazing.

This is an older hotel, but is located on an absolutely beautiful property. It is very well maintained. I stayed in one of the older rooms in the main building. It had a breath-taking view of the ocean and tree-tops! I understand that there are newly renovated rooms as well, so newer amentities are available if you prefer. Breakfast was good. We didn't try the restaurant for dinner, but heard it was good. Hotel service was great. Also, the hotel is located walking distance from the beach. And, don't be surprised if you see a monkey (or five!) living in the trees close by; we did! I woud definitely stay at this hotel again!

Large room with great balcony views. Beautiful pool and bar area. Good food and excellent service. I visited with a group of 15 and we were treated very well. I would recommend this hotel to others.

The views were fantastic! There is construction noise early every morning on the base ocean view room side of the building except Sunday. If you are a person who likes to watch some televison while you are on vacation you will be out of luck here. But, you should be enjoying the terrific views of the ocean and sunset anyway! If it is very hot out the A/C is not quite up to what we may expect in the US in the rooms. Outside of those issues I still would say to anyone to at least stay here at least once for the views. For an activity do the Zip Line Canopy Tour. It was great!

Incredible view. Dreary rooms and very over priced. Unfortunately Americans are used to paying high prices so they are not aware that you are being ripped off because you are American. The staff at this hotel was very nice and very helpful. The rooms were uncomfortable, lacked certain basic amenities and the prices both in the bar and restaurant were higher than many places in America.

"The views are the key to this hotel, and they are amazing. The rooms are pretty simple and designed around the views. The dining area and bar are very cool and make for a great communal area to watch the sunset (which will be more frequent Nov.-Mar). The hotel is a little older but done in a fairly timeless style. There was some maintenance while I was there which may benefit you. Staff was overall quite good."

Out of my three visits to Quepos I have stayed her two out of the three. I loved it. Pool is awesome with great views as well as the pool bar with great service. Never had any problems with the rooms. Quepos is a perfect growing fishing town and La Mariposa added to its charm.

"Breathtaking views, perfect weather, impecable service, friendly staff, they always go the extra mile at this hotel, I got married at Manuel Antonio Beach, and they arranged every detail I needed without hesitation. The breakfast is enough to make you never wanna leave. And as you sip the coffee and look up, and see nothing but blue skies and never -ending ocean, you're suddenly aware there's no place like it in the world! If you're in Manuel Antonio, you GOTTA try this little hidden jewel. YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!!!! "
