This is a condo complex, and so your experience may be different from ours, as the units are individually owned and decorated. Ours (B27) was outdated in decor and somewhat dingey, but had a great view and some nice conveniences. The location is very convenient to walking "downtown", and there is covered free parking. The adjacent beach is not acceptable for swimming for kids, but is nice to look at and explore. The condo's lanai has a great view, facing eastward, of this beach. The pool is small but well-kept, and the adjacent grilling area is covered and nice, with tables. All in all a good deal for the modest price, but it ain't the Ritz. Be sure you want a condo, with a kitchenette, and not a hotel with all the amenities. Ours was a one bedroom with a sleeper couch. There is also a significant difference between this part of Kona and the Kohala coast. This part of the island has a much better 'night life' and restaurant scene, and night life. The Kohala coast is isolated, but the hotels are very luxurient.

Everything on my vacation was perfect. Clean rooms, friendly service, spectacular views. Have been staying here ever since I was 10 and wouldn't trade it to stay anywhere else!! Every room has it's own style. No two rooms are alike! Close to everything, public beaches, public markets, stores, restaraunts, and much much more. Remember, Hawaii can be very unexpectidly expensive, so if your on a budget, always remember to plan ahead and account at least $ over what your expecting to pay!!

This hotel is in a great location in Kona, but I would never stay here again. The hotel is very old and needs major remodeling. I felt like I went back in time into the 50's.

The condo was a perfect fit for us as an active couple who wanted to spend minimal time in a hotel, while still having the convenience of a full kitchen which allowed us to be able to make our own "to-go" breakfasts and lunches. The one bedroom was comfortable and clean, although not updated. The location is within walking distance to restaurants and shopping, as well as the Kailua Pier from which many of the boating, fishing, snorkeling, parasailing trips depart. A local farmers market is also within walking distance and was a great place to buy fresh local fruits!

We stayed in D-35, oceanfront. It as very clean and felt very private. We never heard the guests next to us. All we could hear were the breaking waves. Parking was covered and free. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and the BBQs were nice and clean. The breeze from the ocean made the air conditioning only neccesary at night. We enjoyed the close location to town.

the owners of these time shares do not like childern that behave as childern. they are to be seen and not heard. whats the point of bringing kids if they must act as adults!?

The condo was really in a great location and we had an ocean front view with a surf breaking all the time so the roar of the ocean was awesome! We were told by other guests that they got "a heck of a deal" and we did not get a break at all so felt cheated. I guess I signed up for the trip too early. Plus we upgraded to 2 bedroom and were going to be charged $80.00/night for 10 nights until I called an 800 number and found out that it was too much, so Kona Reef charged $60.00 more instead. Overall though, we cannot complain, the condo was clean, well equipped and area great.

We love to go and experience the food and culture, we also like to cook some of our own meals. Kona Reef offers a great location to walk into town to shop, eat, or get some great food at the farmers market.

The Castle Kona Reef Condo's are a mid-range value for your money. Price is mid-range for some of the other hotels in the area. I have stayed at the Kona Reef condo's 3 times now and would do so again. Rooms are old but clean. Because of the closeness of the ocean a lot of the metal in the unit shows signs of rust and corrosion. Ocean view rooms have an excellent ocean view. Condo's are walking distance to the shopping area of Kona. Pool and BBQ area are very nice

I stayed 1 week at the Kona Reef, garden view. I highly suggest upgrading to ocean view though, you won't regret it. The hotel doesn't look like much on the outside, but the room was clean and had everything you would need. It had washer/dryer, stove, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, utensils etc. Each "apartment" is individually own so the condition of the room depends on the owner. I believe the complex is shared with a timeshare co. The office closes early, which is an inconvenience if you need to get a hold of somebody to complain about load neighbors, as such was the case with us. Overall Its a great place to stay, you can't beat the location, you are a few steps away from the ocean, lawn chairs are provided so you can enjoy the view day or night.

The room at the Castle Kona reef was in pretty good condition overall. AC came in handy; the kitchen was well equipped, and overall large and comfortable for 3 people. The location was terrific for walking to restaurants and shopping and there is a small (less than 50 yards long) sandy beach just south of the property. The TV in the bedroom had tuner issues and would work for 20-30 minutes before dying. We missed having 2 bathrooms, 1 was just not enough for two adults and a teenager. The unit we were in really needed new patio furniture, although the ocean view from the 2nd floor was good.

We were at the Kona Reef Condos for 4 days. The resort was a great value. The apartment was beautiful, overlooking the ocean. It was comfortable. One immediately felt at home. The location was great. It wasn't far from the airport. It was within walking distance to town. The staff was friendly and helpful. We hope to return in the near future.

I was very satisfied with the room and it was GREAT because it is a NON-SMOKING property. The grounds are very pretty and well taken care of. A big Plus is that they do not charge for parking you car. The location was excellent within a short walk to shopping, dining, and other activities. I would stay at the Castle Kona Reef Condominium agian on next visit to the Islands.

The Kona reef was an excellant choice, The room was clean and comfy and the views were awesome. We plan on going back to the Big Island next year and will definetly stay at the Kona reef. We had condo A35, the location for watching the whales, dolphins, turtles as well as the boats was ideal, not to mention being within walking distance of anything you may need or desire. These condos had gotten some neg reviews in the past by others for noise, but during our stay it was quiet. I highly recommend this hotel, and let me tell you I can be picky.

We were treated very nicely the whole stay. There was prompt service for maintanence of a burned outlightbulb and to fix the patio screen door (which was found on the ground upon arrival). Our beachfront room had a spectacular view! We did find another couple seated on the rock wall in front of our patio having wine and watching the sunset(blocking our view)... It was far from shopping and restaurants but the peaceful surrounding made it worth it! We would stay here again.

Great to have a full kitchen. The place was nice although too close to the screaming kids at the pool. Very close to town, but removed from the craziness. A/C was indispensable. Nice deck with beautiful view.

The location is great, it is close to everything, beaches, attraction, and shopping. The place is old, but clean and very well mainteance. We were supposed to check in @ 2pm but our plane got a 8hours delay and went went we get to the hotel it was midnight. The room that was giving to us was very old, a bit smell, I was so disappointed after a long flight, I was expecting a nicer room. The manager is very nice, we did not like the room in A-building, and he immediate take us to the D36 unit without hesitation. I am so happy that he move us to this unit. The room was very nice and clean. It is completely different from the A unit. This is very well worth it for the money, if you are not in to all the resort like amenities. The view is breathtaking, we stayed at the oceanfront. Also, parking is free, it is a bargain!

The Castle Kona Reef Condo on the Big Island of Hawaii was great. My husband and I really enjoyed being in a condo rather than a hotel. Our condo was a one-bedroom, ocean front with all the amenties of home. It had an awesome view, very clean, comfortable and we didn't even hear our neighbors. We enjoyed being able to walk to town (about a mile) and enjoyed one of the better beaches at the south end of the condo property. We would diffently go back.
