Not quite what I was expecting!!!On first sight this hotel looks a bit 'old fashioned', but once you drive into the car park it soon shows that it isn't. The rooms in the annexe are spacious and well appointed, albeit with a few faults (showers mainly - the head fell off mine!), and very quiet. Having the indoor heated swimming pool right outside my room was a bonus, and it even mead having to pick the leaves out of the pool while using it bearable - the tree to block the sunlight tends to shed lots of leaves! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent. One slight complaint is that the menu is a bit 'limited' and fussy, but the meals I had were lovely all the same. It made a pleasant change from the hotel 'chains' I usually stay in!

Stayed at the hotel as we were going to the races, great location right opposite the golf course. We stayed in a room off the main building, everyone was very friendly & gave a very personal service.

An honest commentWhilst our visit was only a short one I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others. We did not dine a the hotel but the choice of menu at breakfast was very good particulaly for me, a vegetarian. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Hotel was situated in an excellent spot for travelling into York Centre or going to the races as the racecourse was directly opposite. We were able to leave the car at the hotel and catch a bus from outside the hotel into town. The buses ran every ten minutes and the bus stops for the retun journeys were easy to find so no worries about parking in town, car parking fees or time restrictions.Bedrooms were comfortable with fresh, crisp white sheets on the bed and fresh towels each day.My only negative observation was that guests from the hotel who wished to smoke would come out onto the patio behind the hotel which was directly in front of our room. The weather during our visit was excellent but if we opened the window of our room the smoke would filter in. Not sure how that could be resolved unless rooms immediately next to the patio were reserved for smokers. Would definitely return to this hotel if visiting York again.

Ok bit expensive for what it is but that's YorkRoom and ensuite rather small, functional and OK for the 1 night we stayed. TV did not work properly and few power points in room. Overall a bit expensive for what it is. But I guess that applies to many places in York.

Although the staff were very helpful the room was a little bit grooty and dated. It all looked clean but there was a foul smell outside my room in the hall. The bedding looked clean but there were a couple of stains on the duvet cover and the towels were quite aged. The feel of the place was friendly and the staff accomodating but it needs refreshed. The room had a double bed, single bed and a roll out mattress so could accomodate a number of people when racing is busy, a large family or a group of people visiting stags/golf or whatever, it was a big room with a nice view over the racecourse.

Knavesmire Manor HotelHotel provided reasonable accomodation at a sensible price - no luxury hotel but ideal for a short stay.

We stayed at this Hotel in 1998 when we were in the main part of the Hotel. This time we were in one of the garden rooms which are small but adequate. The rooms are in need of refurbishing. The choice of menu and the quality of the food in the evening was very good. The service in the restaurant was excellent and it would be far better if breakfast could be served in the dining room instead of the basement. We are visiting again in August to celebrate my wifes birthday but this time we have booked a room in the main building.

Attic RoomI was placed in an attic room with sloping ceilings, no desk to work at, and no position to watch the TV from other than the bed, but due to the sloping ceiling I could not sit up properly, the double bed was not very long, and with it having a footboard, it meant I had to sleep diagonally. The water tank was noisy during the night.

Stay Again.Lovely hotel opposite Knavesmire Racecourse. Beautifully appointed evening dining room. Very nice bar and lounges - lovely olde worlde wood work. Chalet rooms at the back of the hotel where we stayed were very nice - recently re-furbed. Swimming pool available in nice conservatory. Breakfast room downstairs nice and friendly - food good. Would definitely stay there again.

The accommodation was over priced and tiredThe TV reception was poor on channel one, the window blind did not work, the toilet flush was leaking and was probably causing the mould on the floor and pipes around the toilet. Generally not that clean.

Brilliant welcome and customer service, nothing was too much trouble and their attention to detail was brilliant too.

The Bathroom arrangement was 'interesting' but the quality of the room was very good and the Hotelier and Staff would rate as excellent.

The hotel staff were friendly and accomodating. the hotel itself was clean and comfortable, with a nice view of York racetrack. the negatives were that the shower fixing did not function properly, except with a bit of personal improvisation; the room was quite cool/cold even with the radiator on high, though it was a particularly cold spell of weather; and the TV reception was poor. none of these were major issues (I didn't raise them with the hotel) and didn't spoil the stay.

For £40 per night for b$b this was value for money. This is between a b&B and a hotel. Didn't look at the pool so can't comment. The breakfast was great being freshly cooked and the evening dinner, was good but not fine dining. The room was a litte small but had all you needed. Finally the best thing was the staff and the level of service they offered. Maybe a bit far to walk into York but very frequent buses and nice view of racecourse.

This has to be the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. we booked a double room and ended up with a single which we couldnt change as they claimed the hotel was full. the room was freezing cold and we had to use the extra blankets for the beds as draft excluders on the door. There was no separate bathroom in the room, the shower, which only had freezing water, was next to the bed. the sink was so small that you couldnt possibly have a wash in it. We asked for a discount because of all of the above and they just weren't interested. The restaurant food was nice although the menu was limited only having 1 vegetarian choice.

This hotel has delusions of grandeur. The room given was seperate from he main hotel, the door did not lock properly and it was cold in the morning even with the heating on. The shower was very poor, a dribble of cold water to wash in. The staff at the hotel were very friendly nd accomodating, but it was very much 'over sold'. The pool room is a converted shed and the 'heated' pool was cold. The 'changing rooms' were unisex, unheated with again, cold showers. The food at brakfast was excellent, but served in the basement and on the second day they did not have room for us until afetr breakfast had finished being served. Would not go again and very shocked at difference between description and reality
