We stayed at the Outrigger Keauhou Bay Resort from June 23-30, 2009. We decided to stay here because of the Orbitz reviews and because it was also highly recommended by a friend. We were disappointed. It was really nothing special. First the bad: There were very few food options at the hotel. The only option for dinner was the Veranda Lounge in the bar area. The food was mediocre and overpriced. The pool was very small and the water was very cloudy looking. The bathroom was ridiculously small. The shower was the size you would expect on a cruise ship. The housekeeping was minimal. It seemed that they only made the beds and changed the towels. They obviously did not vacuum. (A corn chip lay on the floor in the same place for our entire stay.) If you happened to knock a pillow onto the floor during the night, it would still be on the floor when you got back in the afternoon. The rooms were what you would expect at a Holiday Inn and not from a place with the word "Resort" in their name. The good: The location was fantastic. It was only about 10 minutes from town. (It is too touristy and crowded to stay right in Kona.) There were no other hotels in the immediate area. The bay was beautiful. You could sit in the lounge overlooking the water. Sea turtles were everywhere. We went walking by the water and were able to see some close up. Daily breakfast was offered with a good variety, but the quality was nothing exceptional. The hotel was very quiet, with the exception of the day of the marathon. Free internet access was available in the rooms. Overall, if you are looking for just an acceptable place to stay, then Keauhou Beach Resort is for you. If you are looking for a special place to stay, look elsewhere.

The location to the beach for snorkeling and the view from the bar area. We stayed at the Outrigger for our last night on the Big Island. Went to the bar for happy hour and it was absolutely lovely - we enjoyed watching a hula lesson being taken by the locals, whales jumping out at sea, turtles in the tide pools, outriggers going by just beyond the shore and wonderful drinks, bar staff and sunset, a perfect night!

Beautiful hotel in a great location - but as with other Big Island hotels, you'd do better to hire a car. Really good snorkelling beach just next door - but extras are a bit limited, no airport shuttle (use Speedishuttle $35 each way and not that speedy on pickup), hotel does not provide fins/mask etc, wireless access but no internet terminals provided - car parking also an extra cost.

Excellent location & great free breakfast! The hotel used lower quality soap for our room than other rooms. The hotel is fantastic. The location was great. Everything was neat, tidy, and in good condition. The room has a mini fridge and a coffee maker. The front desk was a little slow to respond to a problem with the TV on the first night, but it was remedied in the morning. The hotel offers free breakfast every morning. There are ample hot items (white rice, eggs, hash browns, sausage or bacon, pancakes, etc), pastries, breads & toaster, fruit, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, granola, and an assortment of juices, teas, and coffee. A very nice way to start your day! The only real complaint was that the soap was low quality, and we noticed that there were 2 different types of soap on the housekeeping card. When we encountered a maid in the hall and asked for the better soap and it was given to us. But whenever our room was changed, they always left the cheaper soap. Odd.

We booked a deluxe ocean view room for our honeymoon. The view was fantastic and the breakfast was also very good. The hotel does not offer room service and the dinner menu is limited, so if those things are important, then another hotel should be considered. We preferred dining at the restaurants in Kona and other surrounding towns. We were very pleased with our stay and will stay there again when we revisit the Big Island.

Beautiful location. The shower in the room was like the shower at the YMCA. Gross. The rooms in the hotel were just OK. They are in obvious need of updating.

Our Hotel stay was excellent ... great location, on the beach, the best snorkeling on the Island. We spent two days at the volcano, assume time hiking and you most checkout the lava flow and Tube. This was a great trip.

Close to a nice beach. No hot tub! It's nice close to a good beach. Not very romantic if there is no hot tub or tub in shower!

Loved the friendly service, daily breakfast, quiet atmosphere and the views of the water, turtles and Hawaiian temple. Wish that the evening menu options would have had more variety and stayed open later in view of the lack of room service. The hotel is not within walking distance of other dining options. For the money it was a great place to stay for a few nights.

Location with free shuttle. The pool did not have great upkeep. This was a great hotel for the price and location. The room was clean but the pool was disappointing. The grounds were well kept. There were turtles.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel 6 years ago and enjoyed the location and service so we came back this year in 2009 and had similar experiences. The staff is friendly and professional, the view is gorgeous, the beaches to snorkel are close by, and the shopping center up the hill has some great restaurants if you don't want to drive to eat dinner. We had dinner on the deck several times and we were happy with the food, service and prices. You can't beat the view of the turtles and the sunset. Very romantic. Friday night music was traditional Hawaiian and added to the ambience. We are already planning another trip to Hawaii and we will stay for our third time at the Outrigger Keauhou and would recommend to our friends and family.

Great Buffet Breakfast included. The economy obviously shows....lot of empty rooms. Hotel not spending a lot on landscape maintenance. Away from main tourist area but there is shuttle available; nice to have a rental car.

Close to many other hotels so we can try other restaurants. Unfriendly front desk staff, poor room cleaning & towel services. Refused to consider the slightest upgrade e.g. move to a higher floor or a better view. We were on the 2nd floor right overlooking the flat roof of the restaurant & meeting rooms. Beware, Avis car rental will charge you an hour rate if you so much as to return the car one minute late. That is the policy of Avis at the Kona airport. Always ask what the grace period for return time is.

The room and staff were fantastic. Work was still going on but not really an issue. The renovations were done very well. It was very clean and attractively appointed. I don't really believe there was a bad room in the hotel. The ocean was visible from everywhere. I would recommend it to anyone.

The weather was great and the view and grounds were beautiful. The hotel is older and the rooms could use updating but the bed was good. The setting and grounds are beautiful and we could sit on the lanai and watch the surfers at the beach next door or wander the grounds. Our room only had a shower though we were told there was a tub. You really need a car on the big island but if you don't want one, they have a shuttle to take you around the local area. The staff was mostly friendly and helpful. Restaurant service is limited (due to the economy we were told) but the free breakfast buffet was very nice.

Locatiion was superb. Hotel was in process of renovation and some areas were in disarray. This hotel is in a prime location in Kona. It is seaside with a great coastline, beach and views to die for.Unfortunately, the hotel, although in the process of renovation, should have begun this re-do 5 years ago.
