The hotel was in a good location and was a good "base" for exploring the island. The room was a good size and was very clean, but lacked modern ammenities (small fridge, window A/C unit, no microwave). The grounds included two small pools and beach access. Grounds were well maintained. The hotel was in close proximity to shops and just a short drive to grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and other shopping.

We had a wonderful stay! It is an older style hotel, but with all there is to do and see on the island, it was perfect! It's centrally located. It's not modern, and doesn't have all the gimmicks that attract people with children. The staff was friendly and wonderful! After a day out and about the island, a comfortable bed and fresh air coming through the windows was waiting. We left the hotel every day and drove to see "something" on the island....and there is plenty to see....and do. The beaches are abundant....and easliy accessible all up and down the shore. We drove as far to the north as possible....and as far to the south as possible. The Coconut Marketplace is within walking distance. Would we return again? Absolutely yes. This was our 2nd trip to Kauai, and our 2nd place to stay. Both places were great, but I'd save my money in the choice of place to stay, and spend it on food, which you'll find quite pricey. Save your money. The place is clean, friendly and had great beds.

Very nice local atmosphere. Staff was very helpful and friendly. We would stay here again. Beautiful island. We want to come back. The only thing, we hope the diningroom will be open soon.

I knew the motel was older but it was clean and convenient for shopping, eating, etc.. I liked it's central location which made going north or south to see the sights quite easy. No luxeries which I didn't expect for the price. I would of liked to have coffee in my room. I had to walk to the lobby every morning and pay a $1.00 per cup. Also, the pool was only open until 6:00 PM which I felt was ridiculous. The front desk was very friendly and all in all my experience was good because I was only at the motel to sleep.

The hotel is affordable and conveniently located. We enjoyed sitting at the beach that the hotel is situated on. One morning we saw a beautiful rainbow from our beach chairs; it was a clean and simple place and the staff were friendly.

This hotel was a great value for the money. No frills, but we didn't expect any. When in Hawaii, you're running around so much and rarely in the room, so this one is all we needed. It was very clean and neat. Do keep in mind that you can't swim at that beach.

We go to Kauai every year and never knew that this hotel was there. We enjoyed the quiet, peacefulness and the view. The mall is right next door. We decided next year we are going back again. We enjoyed the place and the workers are friendly.

I was very happy at Kauai Sands. I had a prepaid reservation through Travelocity and was upgraded at check in. The hotel was not very crowded and I was given a room with a nice balcony very near the ocean. The hotels' property fronts the beach, so it is very nice to fall asleep with the waves. The island has many wild roosters, but I did not hear them from my room. I had dinner in the restaurant one night - it was fine, but nothing outstanding. Other reviewers have noted problems with the bed quality but I was very satisfied - they must be in the process of replacing some of the bedding. Overall, I was quite pleased with this property - certainly not a luxury resort by any means, but for a budget traveler it is a great way to stay close to the water in Kauai.

The hotel was basic with no frills. I thought it would have been nice to have a microwave and a coffee pot in the room. Location was great. The pool needs some attention. It was clean just broken old tiles. We attended a wedding and went to cliffs to jump and body surfed. Shopped next door. The discribtion says newly renovated. I didn't see anything that looked new. It was very dated

Very nice and well maintained hotel on the beach. The room styles are little dated but are still very nice and clean. The hotel is a little hard to find and the directions provided on the website are not as clear as they could be. The air conditioning is marginal andtake a while to cool the room off. Wave action at the beach was higher than some other areas we visited. There was some surfing going on offshore. Very quiet hotel.

Great location steps from the beach and within easy driving distance to other parts of the island. Not for someone looking for a plush room or resort amenities, but perfect for someone looking for a good value in a good location.

Staff are very nice and friendly. Towels are small and somewhat bare but for the price and location, it's a good deal.

We did our best to stay away from the hotel, even as sleep deprived as we became. All night long there were roosters crowing, the bar frequently emptying a large container of bottles into the dumpsters, and screaming fights in the parking lot. I did not expect much from this hotel, it was worse than I thought possible. When we walked into the room and the Vile Green carpet assaulted our eyes I began to worry. I finally located the source of that awful smell in the room, it was vomit down the side of the bed. Yes, if you like these kinds of things this is the hotel for you!

I traveled to Kauai for my birthday to visit my son who is a travel guide on the Na Pali coast. So I decided to stay in the town of Kapaa. This was a first time trip to Hawaii. It was important for me to get a nice yet economical place since I was staying almost 2-weeks. I booked this hotel through travel agency; It was about $110 a night. It looked like a great location, right next door to the Coconut Marketplace, and it was. But the room was not as expected. I thought I was getting a "superior garden view" and it turned out to be a dark, dank room with a sliding back door that opened to a view of a black fence and an alley with creepy10-ft. vines. After the first week, I opted to pay $25 more a night and "up-graded" to a room with a kitchen. This was also a disappointment. No oven or range, just microwave. The pools were great and the hotel is on the beach. Lots of seniors stay here. So be sure to ask to see the room before you committ. I will most likely stay in a condo or more upscale beachfront hotel next trip. The extra $ is worth it!

Hotel had nice beach front property and was just a few feet away from the best boggie boarding beach on the island. Shopping and nice restaurants were also within walking distance, infact it was almost next door. We only had to walk half a block from the hotel to take a Kaayak and hiking tour. The hotel was much better than we expected since if was extremely affordable although the matresses on the bed need to be replaced; they were uncomfortable but bareable. The only thing missing was a kitchen since we prefer to cook most of our own dinners. Eating out in Kauai is quite expensive unless you don't mind eating at fast food restaurants every night. However, I guess it's the hotel I am suppose to be evaluating and not the price of food so I would have to say it was GREAT for the price and the hospitality was great as well. I would recommend to family and friends.

We did not expect a fancy hotel, so it was okay. My main problem was the beds. You could feel every spring in them. They are very old. The towels are very small, only a little bigger than a hand towel, so if you like soft, big towels bring your own. I went with a group of friends and so the only time spent at the hotel was to sleep, so it's fine for the college student who can't spend very much. The restaurant was good, we had breakfast there one morning. They are not open very much, so make sure you get there before they stop serving breakfast.

Good central location for activities throughout island. Unfortunately, the on site restaurant was not open during our stay.

Rooms were clean. Staff was polite and helpful. We didnt try the restaurant there. However, the aromas coming from the restaurant were appealing. There are other eating establishments close by, also. The pools were open, clean and not too crowded. Parking was okay. The location of the Sands was close to the Coconut Grove Shopping Center, which we frequented a lot while we were there. It was only a short drive to and from the airport. You can also walk from your room down to the beach and sit on the beach or venture out into the water, without crowds of people in the way.

It is a very good value for the money and in a great location. Simple place. Not for a honeymoon or romantic week away, but if you just need a place to sleep while you are out all day sightseeing or at the beach, this is the place! It is right on the beach, very clean. I got a great package deal from Orbitz with this room AND a rental car for only $89 per night.

Short stay but pleasant . Hotel not the resort type and the resort type may be almost as cheap so you need to carefully consider what you want. Air conditioner was very loud - had to turn it off when I slept so it became hot in the room etc. Folks at desk very nice and there was a safe deposit box at desk for safe keeping . Frig in room and shower both excellent - buildings a bit older look but overall value for money and nice visit!
