Description:
This world-class resort casino is family-owned and operated. The son of Basque immigrants, John Ascuaga built the Nugget from a roadside coffee shop that opened in 1955. His touch is noticeable in details large and small, such as hand-picked friendly staff, welcoming ambience and a reception desk separate from the casino area. And check out our separate listing on this site for The Courtyard at John Ascuagas Nugget! John Ascuaga's Nugget offers a full array of casino entertainment, nine restaurants, four live music venues including the incomparable Celebrity Showroom. The two 29-story hotel towers include a variety of room accommodations from deluxe king and queen rooms to an assortment of suites. The spa offers an extensive selection of body treatments and beauty services. A fitness center adjoins the pool. A business center, large arcade and full gift shop are also available. John Ascuaga's Nugget Hotel has 1,382 oversize luxury guest rooms in two 29-story towers. The newly-renovated East Tower features gorgeous new rooms with a comfortably sophisticated palate of warm tones, dark woods and crystal accents. They include heavenly presidential mattresses with upscale bedding and extra fluffy pillows. A 42" flat screen television adorns the wall in the main living area and high-speed WiFi is available. The elegant bathrooms are a showcase of marble counters and floors, upscale fixtures and beautiful details. All the new rooms include coffee pots on a separate marble counter in the entry. The traditionally-furnished west tower offers extra large rooms with comfortable sitting areas including couches in the standard king room, cozy bedding and spacious bathrooms. Many suite upgrade options are available. Both towers offer sweeping views of the incomparable Reno skyline and spectacular Sierra Nevada Mountains. Entertainment every weekend includes headliners such as Lyle Lovett, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Hall and Oates, as well as boxing matches and other events. The 700-seat Celebrity Showroom offers classic seating in booths tiered down to the stage. The Rose Ballroom seats 2,000 for entertainers such as Clint Black, Chris Isaak and Wynonna. The Casino Cabaret features jazz, blues, and rock and roll. Live jazz artists play in the Orozko Lounge and dancing to a live disc jockey is featured in Trader Dick's. The casino supplies 85,000 square feet of slots, video poker, keno, blackjack, craps, roulette, poker, and other table games. One level below the casino are sports and race books, with the race book featuring desks illuminated by green-shade lamps. A tile path leads around the casino to restaurants. There also is a bingo parlor. During warm weather, sliding glass roof panels allow fresh air into the sun drenched fifth floor which houses the large atrium pool. Outdoor sun decks overlook unobstructed mountain views. Eight, one-person spas flank one side and a large, round spa tub for 16 is at the end of the pool. Luxuriously padded chairs and lounges line the surrounding deck. A tent permits private massage. Wireless Internet access is available in the rooms, lobby and restaurants (surcharge). Right outside the casino is Victorian Square the center of downtown Sparks, which offers interactive fountains and gazebos. Live music is featured on some summer evenings. Victorian Square also is home to many of Reno/Tahoe's nationally-recognized special events, including The Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off, July 4th Fireworks Festival, Hot August Nights and the annual Hometowne Christmas parade. A resort fee of $5 per night, covering use of the atrium pool, use of the fitness center, vale parking, garage parking and airport shuttle, will be charged at the front desk.

I would like to set the record straight for this Magnificent Hotel. After reading the other review, I was concerned about staying here, but after staying at John Ascuaga's Nugget Hotel, I can tell you that this hotel is a complete class act. The hotel is just outside of Reno in Sparks, which we now see as a definite benefit (after visiting Reno). The tall towering hotel stands alone in its class, a true 5 star establishment. Free parking, extremely courteous staff, clean fantastic rooms, an amazing view from the 20th floor, ULTRA MAGNIFICENT POOL, ( the kids never wanted to leave), a great game arcade for the kids, work out room, restaurants and a word class casino---- all make for a Class A establishment. Our room was clean, tidy, and refreshed daily with towels shampoo and soap. Beds were clean, roomy and very comfortable. The hotel was very, very clean, and maintenance was seen daily, vacuuming, dusting, and mirror cleaning.(lots of that) I was very happy with my stay and would highly recommend John Ascuaga's Nugget to anyone. This is the best place in the Reno/ Sparks area , hands down! I will definitely come back.

The location was convenient, and the price was right. It was quite noisy, but the overall experience was good.

Given a top floor room. We were fortunate to have received a room on the top floor. Not sure which tower we were at, but it was definitely the old one. The room was in good condition: as good as it could be given the age. We were very satisfied.

The front desk was friendly but as we checked into our first room we found a used condom wrapper tucked just under the bed skirt, and we also found a used q-tip by the garbage. I am assuming it was intended to go into the garbage, not on the floor. As we tried to politely check into our second room we found an non moped very dirty bathroom floor, and a makeup stained pillow. At this point I was very frustrated and asked for some form of compensation for my trouble and money spent, and was then told the hotel doesn't have any form of compensation. I asked how they deal with unhappy guests and was told they simply keep moving them room to room. We finally were checked into a room that looked as if it actually cleaned and payed attention to,....but I was very wary as I got into bed. As my $ a night didn't already seem high the complications I ran into upon our arrival at 10 o'clock at night made my nightly rate an rip off...

TERRIBLE place, will never go back there again!! Story: We booked the most expensive room from online travel website. We showed them the itinerary and receipt, but they don't care..... Bad Attitude: 1. The manager (X) threatened us not to speak/complain, otherwise our reservation will be gone (we will have no place to stay even though we paid the money) 2. I asked them if they could sort this issue out with online travel website, they said no. 3. No one asked how they can help us out. (how weird...) 4. We were asked to stay out of line even though this issue was not resolved, and they have two other windows available and only 1 family was to check in at the time. 5. I told them I've stayed in this hotel many times, and they don't care. Summary: Don't stay at this hotel !!

Accomodations were great, the hotel staff was wonderful. The location was fine. They hotel charges were quite reasonable and there were no hidden costs. The access to parking was fine, and they did not charge for parking your own vehicle. The room was superior, and room cleaning was fine.

NO coffee in the room but happy to sell Starbucks from the lobby! Bed in the West Tower was very comfortable and quiet, no sound from the neighbors. Room was clean and not a bedbug was seen! Though we were booked for a week for a conferance we got none of the advertised perks for vouchers or $ on casino cards. Conferance price charged per night for a king room in the west tower was higher than their advertised price on-line. (Glad work was paying for it!) Very nice attached garage for easy to self-park plus excellent free valet service. I mentioned the bad reputation of the Coutryard I'd read in reviews and the desk clerk said that was correct. Friends stayed in the recently remodeled East Tower. Rooms were nice but overlooked a junk yard that made noise waking them early after getting to bed late from playing in the casino the night before. There is NO non-smoking room in the casino. If you don't like smoke, play during the day or early evening. The smoke gets thick after 7 pm. There are many penny slots. Rosie's cafe' had excellent food with good prices. The buffet was over priced, though you could make a meal of the desserts! We didn't eat at the other restaurants in the hotel. Easy walking distance to several restaurants outside of the hotel. as well as a movie theatre. Easy access to the interstate and only about 5 miles from the airport. Lines for check-in of folks coming by airport shuttle, otherwise little to no wait at the lobby desk. The media tech folks were exceedingly helpful in making sure that everything worked well before sessions were to begin. Security was available to oversee conferance material 24/7.

There are several threads about their bad experiences in this hotel's reservation. I didn't think I would be so unlucky before this trip, now I know I will never go back to this hotel. What happened: 1. We booked the most expensive room in this hotel, but the hotel staff told me we got the cheapest one. We showed them the receipt and itinerary, but they did not care. 2. The front desk manager, XXX, did not want to hear our complaint, and she threatened to void our reservation if we did. 3. They did not want to check with the travel agency or billing department to find out what happened. We asked them to call, they did not care. In the end, we called the travel agency by ourselves. 4. No one at the front desk tried to help us out. 5. They asked us to step aside the window while we tried to call the travel agency and the line was not busy at all (there were two other windows open, and only one customer about to check in). 6. Bad attitude, bad attitude. We will never stay at this place again!!

The West Tower was great. The TV was a little outdated, but you don't go to Reno to watch TV. I liked that you had to have a valid key card to get to the floors with rooms. Good security feature! There were plenty of places to eat and at a pretty reasonable price. My friend had a room in the East Tower which are newley remodeled, but were a $30 a night upgrade. I think the West Tower was the best deal!

Location for the business I was on. Rosie Cafe personnel (only a few) were not friendly. Exercise room had no bicycles to ride. Very limited in what you could do.

The hotel it self was alright however, there connection with Orbitz sucks. when we arrived the hotel said there was no reservation and that we needed to contact Orbitz, which we tried for 2+ hours with myself on one phone and my husband on another before we got any results. I believe Orbitz was at fault and they have poor communication with there clients and hotels.

Hotel was well kept for an older establishment. Self parking too far away. The price was right and the hotel was close enough to the Reno Convention Center to not be a hassle getting there in the morning, but by afternoon traffic was a mess.

I have been to this area many times, and never stayed in this particular hotel. We had some customer service issues that were NEVER resolved. A hotel manager was supposed to get back with me on his staff's problems, and chose not to which made me actually leave a day early even though the room was already paid for. It ruined my whole trip! It sucked!

Great staff, friendly and accomodating. Excellent restaurants! The beds were a bit hard. John Assuages Nugget is one of the finer casino/hotel's in the Sparks area. The staff is great, the food and bar selections were tremendous!
