We really liked the hotel itself, but upon inquiring at the restaurant downstairs for a table, we were told that there would be no food service anywhere in the hotel until 5pm that evening - some problem in the kitchen. This is simply unacceptable. There needs to be a plan in place to provide at least room service or a poolside sandwich for a hotel this expensive.

The location within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Small bathroom. Hotel was located in the desirable Country club plaza area in Kansas City and was short walk to upscale dining and shopping. Hotel had a nice bar and restaurant for meeting our group. Exercise facilities were used and were satisfactory. Pool was beautiful. Valet parking was superb.

I'm pretty sure they don't have any kind of training for their servers. Our server for our Saturday night meal was completely unaware of any standard dining protocol. It started when I requested a wine recommendation for our steak and he grabbed the wine menu from me, turned to the whites and said, "These two are pretty good." Later I had to prompt him to bring serving plates for our apps! I would have been angry if it wasn't so obvious that he simply had no idea what he was expected to do for service in a fine dining restaurant. And it wasn't just him, there were a few other food runners, etc. which we encountered and they all seemed very out of place... I guess it says it all that we went to a chain restaurant for lunch the next day and we both commented that our server there was a remarkable contrast in terms of professionalism from what we had seen the night before. Sad.

The Intercontinental Hotel in Kansas city on the Plaza, was nice and clean with a nice pool area, lounge and very adequate rooms. However, check in time was 3P.M. we were there at 3:15 P.M. and did not get a room until 4:30 P.M.. I really did not like that, we were tired and had tickets for the ball game that night so we had to do some rushing around to make it on time.

The pool side bar was awesome. Drinks were very expensive.

Talk about exceeding expectations! After reading older reviews, we elected to stay here due to the location. However, with their recent room renovations, all aspects of our stay at the Intercontinental were just fantastic! From the reservation agent to the bellmen, the staff was delightful as well knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Our renovated deluxe double room in the west wing was beautiful and very comfortable. The hotel?s location is exceptional, so close to excellent shopping with the best view of the Plaza holiday lights available. The last two floors are currently in the process of being renovated and the lobby and public areas are to be renovated in Jan ? Feb 08. While there was still was work being done on our floor, the area was draped off, we saw no construction equipment, and heard no noise. We did not eat in the restaurant this visit, but have in the past and it was great. Highly recommend this hotel!

The staff throughout our visit were very, very helpful and courteous. The mattress was wonderful. BUT the remote did not turn the set on/off or change the channels or sound volume from greater than 3 feet away. Bathroom lighting was poor, and the sink had not drain cover ( you look down into the drain. There was an inadequate supply of bath towels and wash cloths (we had to have houskeeping bring some supplies to us. Good but not what it should be.

I stayed on the concierge floor in a room with the worst view, worst set up - ever. TV and bed at 90 degree angle from each other. One saving grace: X in the concierge lounge - he was fantastic.

Updated furnishings - Offer to upgrade to plaza room for free. The Intercontinental Hotel on the Plaza was a perfect location for a short getaway weekend to Kansas City. We love the Plaza area for shopping and restaurants. We ate at the Capital Grille and were treated wonderfully at both, making our whole 40th anniversary a lovely memory!

This hotel hasn't seen a remodel in decades. The postage stamp, marble bath looked like an advanced penicillin experiement was in progress. It's across the creek from The Plaza, but way extraordinarily overpriced for what you get.

i had phoned the hotel the day before my arrival to ask that they do something quite simple on my behalf be fore i arrived. the young woman i spoke to was there at check in when i arrived. she'd forgotten to do for me what she said she'd do. in earlier days this horel's attention to detail was near perfect but not so now. a couple of other things -- there was no bellman on hand to take our luggage to our room. and our room was never made up at night. last but not least, the music in the loung off the cental hotel e4ntry is now played at peak volume. what used to be a sophisticated hotel seems to have become one today that is decidedly pedestrian. odd. it's the best located hotel in kansas city, however.

We really liked the Intercontinental. It's in an excellent location directly off the Plaza. The rooms were very nice and clean. It was our anniversary so they sent up complimentary champagne. The service was okay but needs some improving. Overall we had a great stay.

The hotel was updated, clean, and most importantly within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. However, the lighting in the bathroom was absolutely horrible and the room was fairly small. It seemed overpriced.

Beautiful & clean with outstanding service. The Intercontinental is a beautiful hotel. Upon arrival, the staff even upgraded us to a junior suite, which was beautiful. Another benefit is that they offer free covered parking, which many luxury hotels no longer seem to do.

The nice comfortable room and friendly staff. This Marriott is located to the eastern border of the Plaza, great views of the Plaza and KC! Friendly staff, comfortable accommodations and the complimentary use of the shuttle was an added bonus!
