I was amazed that an Inter Continental brand property would have such terrible service. We were excited to travel to Panama and stay at Playa Bonita until our service expectations of a 10 dropped to a 2 or 3. The staff must be paid minimum wage, poorly trained, and a 10% tip is added to every bill which the staff doesn't realize we would add to the 10% if service was at least tolerable. The housekeeping staff did however do a nice job. The food was the same all 5 days of our stay and mediocre at best. In fact, if you dined at their premium restaurant "Litehouse" you were treated to the exact same food that was available at the buffet across the lawn but at twice the price...amazing the nerve they have! While at the pool, it would normally take 30-45 minutes to have someone take your drink order. And, that was only after you had to wave them down, otherwise they would avoid eye contact and avoid you. The property is remote, as in the middle of nowhere and there is nothing less than 5 miles away in either direction. Plan on feeling isolated unless you hire a cab or rent a car. The people of Panama don't smile much and most live in squalor. Mexico is a cleaner country than Panama. The people also, for the most part do not seem to like Americans. Either because we abandoned them when Carter gave the canal away or they think we invaded them when we pulled Noriega out. If the service was on par with other IC properties and the quality and variety of food and drinks where world class, it would be a cool place to stay for a couple days. We won't be going back however...

The hotel/resort was empty. There are no activities other than pool. Beach nice to walk on not for swimming. I did not get the room type I reserved. I was told that because the hotel was under maintenance I had to take a room on the 3rd floor instead of a King deluxe on the 5th. This in spite of the fact that there were only 20-30 guests in the hotel that can easily accommodate 600 people. I was advised that I had to join the Ambassador's Club for $150 to get breakfast. Then was told that since only 5 guests were in the club, they would not open the Ambassador room for use of the internet. One of three restaurants was completely closed. The food served for breakfast was not well prepared. Soup/ coffee/tea cold. Eggs were over cooked, buffalo chicken wings were uncooked and had blood even though returned to the kitchen for more cooking, club sandwich had old, tasteless meat, shrimp tempura batter was undercooked/raw. There are no other eateries close to the hotel. You are stuck. One good note is the lobby bar and the four staff who really tried to salvage our stay. Otherwise, I'm heading back to the El Panama Hilton Hotel in town.

A beautiful setting but not great service. Nothing came on the cheap. Simple activities cost extra. Jungle surroundings but difficult to explore. Beach just walkable, not inviting for swimming. Nasty biting bugs come out heavy at dusk. Restaurant service lacking. Highly priced buffets. Not overly friendly staff. Just didn't measure up to expectation.

Beautiful hotel with nice pool, gym and spa. Great pool service for lunch, but would not recommend the hotel restaurant for dinner. Food was terrible and pricey, plus the decor was quite tacky compared to the hotel otherwise. Can go to PC for $20 each way and have dinner at one of the many high end restaurants. Rooms were well appointed but the bedding was made of polyester blend that was not the most comfortable. Please do not be fooled by the beach. Panama beaches are not the best by any means. The water on the Pacific side is murky and while the hotel claims it is clean, I nor anyone else that I saw swam in the ocean. The beach itself is fine, but nothing spectacular and if you walk over just a bit you will see all the garbage that you could be swimming with since there is runoff from some unknown area. Overall I would recommend the hotel.

30 minutes outside of Panama city an Playa Bonita is an okay conference site. As a luxury hotel the grounds are beautiful and the rooms overlook the harbor as ships line up to enter the canal. The pools, beach, were above average.Conference rooms were good but the sound system was poor.Rooms were clean, toiletries abundant, beds firm with cozy duvets, but chairs and workspace in the room were cramped and uncomfortable. Food was "good, but not great" and quite repetitive. However you pay US PREMIUM rates for food and beverage, mini bar, and you pay extra for Internet, kayaks, etc. But how well can you rate a hotel when they cheat you on the bill? At luxury rates you expect good customer service and the Playa Bonita fails miserably and it amounts to price gouging. We were quoted a rate at check in and charged a much higher rate ($200 more PER NIGHT) at check out. However, the issue was not the money. The front desk refused to provide copies of the check-in cards which would prove the discrepancy in our favor and refused to locate a manager who would deal with the issue. They embarrassed the conference organizers and the speakers and showed incredibly bad form. Not at all what you expect from the Intercontinental brand. As veteran travelers we have never suffered such paltry treatment as that received at Playa Bonita We left the hotel with a really bad taste and will probably not host our next conference there. Beware the changing room rate and excessive prices if that is important to you.

InterContinental Playa Bonita was fantastic -from the staff's record response time to the awesome ocean views to the luxurious pools to the mangrove forest down the beach to the cleanest rooms ever. There's a lot to do -not only for a couple, but also for families. Only a few negatives to consider: your dining choices are limited and the food is not so great, and you can't swim in the ocean water because Panama City dumps raw sewage into it.

i like the location quiet and away from downtown area but accesible. the staff are friendly and very accomodating. definetely will recomend this place.

"Finally a real good beach resort in Panama. This resort just opened this year and it's simply spectacular. Great setting, all rooms are ocean view and the service could not be better. It's in a private bay and there is rainforest all around it. Strongly recommend this resort for getaways. Very romantic and far from the other noise and massive beach resorts in Panama. "
