The Mark Hopkins is a classic, must-stay hotel that has been thoroughly modernized. Unfortunately, the lower floors are especially subject to street noise, which is considerable, since the hotel is located at the juncture of two cable car routes. You are likely to hear police sirens during the night. The Top of the Mark is legendary, but there are more attractive hotel view lounges with better views and larger windows.

One of the greatest San Francisco hotels, but remodeled like new. The Top of the Mark is the classic view of the city. California Street cable cars outside door. A block from the Powell Street cable cars. Convenient parking garage off California Street. Room and bathroom luxurious. Reasonable rates for the quality. Didn't take any meals in hotel -- too easy to take advantage of San Francisco restaurants. Friendly and helpful staff. Great time. Eager to return.

Many people have had mixed experiences with this hotel so I was wary. The front desk person put me in a 6th floor room without a view claiming it was "quiet." The bathroom fixtures vibrated very loudly (sounded like there was drilling next door) every time the person in the next room used the shower, so I called the front desk and they sent someone to investigate immediately. He said it was an old building and the sound was made by pipes. The manager on duty was very helpful and moved me to a different room that faced California St. There was street noise but I didn't mind that, the clanging of the cable car bells is pleasant to my ears.

I stayed there back in December on business for one night - I was doing an event in the hotel - which promted me to come back this past week for a vacation. The service and staff were beyond compare. They went the extra mile to make sure their guests are comfortable and well taken care of.

This is an old hotel, like so many Intercontinental properties. Small rooms and not particularly clean. Some missing amenities as a result, like a pool. The bar up top has fabulous views and trams are right at the door. Folks, be careful. Eveything is a la carte at this hotel. Never had I paid 50 for parking for my rental car before, net of taxes. That is outrageous! Internet is extra, even the water at the fitness center is extra. The rates are reasonable but what is add-on afterward is problematic. Adding it all up - not worth it.

I have stayed at many top hotels and would put the Mark Hopkins in my top two. Quiet, clean, lovely rooms. Staff was very helpful with inquiries and assistance when needed. We ordered room service once, the meal was prompt, delicious, and beautifully presented. I even took photos for my trip albumn! Would definately book again. The only deficit was that I had to cross the street to another hotel to find a coffee shop. People staying at this local should take advantage of the beautiful park one block away. I enjoyed morning coffee and paper while watching tai chi, dogs excercising, and children playing, what a joy!

What better place to stay when you're in the most wonderful city in the country? The Mark Hopkins is a very elegant hotel in a sea of new glitzy, cold hotels. You can't get service, views or environment than the Mark Hopkins. The rooms are roomy, updated and elegant. Over the last twenty years of traveling to SF, I've stayed at most (if not all) of the upper-end hotels. I continue to go back to the M.H. The staff makes every effort to handle your requests for dinner reservations, a particular room or transportation. We now just book here and never wonder about the new hotels that come around. Word of Caution: The hotel is at the top of Nob Hill. If you chose to walk up and down, you will get your exercise. The cable car does come by the hotel so that is another option.

amazing experience. From the moment you pull up to the grand entrance to the time you leave. The location couldn't have been better. Short walk to chinatown, warf, union square and best of all, two cable car lines run right in front of the hotel. nothing better than opening your window at night, feeling the cool san francisco breeze and hear the ding of the cable car bell as it rides past your window. It was a very memorable experience. Staff were gracious and knowledgeable. Every request was met quickly and needs were anticipated.

We stayed in SF for one night and the room, though small, was clean, had a view and appropriately priced. The location was great with an easy walk to Union Square and other areas. We anticipated the service to be good, but was beyond our expectations with being helpful after having left some items in a cab that had dropped us at the hotel. When we return to SF definitely will choose Mark Hopkins for our stay.

They couldn't get the pay TV to work so we could watch movie and there was little else on that was free. Everything was pricey and it isn't that good. Staff was polite but could not fix the problem. Not conveniently located. On a steep hill. Sirens and city noises.

We got to the hotel early and left our bags and did the Chinatown [three blocks away] visit. The next day we got the all day pass and did the cable car and buses for Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, and Pier 39.All in all a very enjoyable visit. Special kudos to [...] at the hotel who provided both friendly service and helpful information.Go to the Top of the Mark. Dinner is served and in the evening there is live music for dancing. The cover charge is waived for hotel guests. This was one of the nicest parts of our trip.

The location of the hotel, right on top of Nob Hill, affords amazing views from every side! It is easy walking distance, down a hill of course, to shopping, restaurants and plenty of sights. If you don't want to walk, the California and Powell St cable cars are essentially right outside your door. The hotel staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, while the rooms are a bit small but clean. We ended up getting a room with an uncomfortable bed the first night, but the hotel was happy to switch rooms for us and we ended up with a terrific room and bed. Top of the Mark is a beautiful place to have a drink, although it is pricey - you are paying for the view! All in all, a very nice hotel that we'd stay in again.
